Canelo vs Trout Predictions
Let's have them Gents!
I have stomped all over Canelo in the past. His relationship with the WBC, how he makes millions for fighting cans.
But not now.
I fully respect him for taking this fight, an absolute pick 'em fight that could well be a classic. If he loses to the talented Trout he can rise again, at 22 he has so much time.
So, my prediction.
Austin Trout to start fast, use his jab, move, be elusive, slightly back footed, and throw clusters to the body that punish Canelo, and slow him enough to win rounds. Trout to take the opening three rounds.
Then, Canelo stalks, closes down the ring, finds range, and starts to throw hard body shots when Trout is on the ropes, but also stiff straight left and over hand rights that bloody Trout's face.
Going into the final four I'll have it even.
Argh! I don't know who will win. This will not be a cagey fight IMO.
.............................. A DRAW gentleman, I pick a draw.

I'm going to go with Canelo after having lots of trouble along the way. A very tight decision. This going to be a great fight.

Canelo via robbery. Trout outboxes him thoroughly and loses.

Re: Canelo vs Trout Predictions
Real pick'em and I keep changing my mind on how it goes. Like you Davide I think that the final 4 rounds will be the decider
Trout beat Cotto as easily or even easier than Floyd did but Canelo is a different challenge than Cotto. The biggest difference is that Canelo is a lot bigger and is a natural lightmiddle whereas Cotto wasn't
Before the Trout fight, I was one of the few who picked trout and I was so confident that Trout was going to pull off the upset whereas lots thought Cotto would school him or knock him out. Mayweather was a good effort, but mayweather is a small welterweight and almost had him of his feet in the 12th. Marg, Mayorca and Foreman where all poor wins and just showed me that he isn't a lightmiddleweight. He was just too small for Trout. He managed to get his left hook in but he couldn't follow it up as Trout just outmuscled him and wore him down. Canelo is a couple inches taller and a good stone heavier naturally and is forever getting stronger and won't be bullied so easily
Canelo is also alot fresher than Cotto was. Canelo's hardest fight is probably Mosley and he hardly got caught, and excluding Cotto a few years ago he has never been hurt. Cotto has had a couple of bad beatings and hasn't looked good since the marg beating. Trout won easily but after 8 it was very close on the cards but Trouts youth came through
It may come down to what you like. Trout will jab and set a high workrate but Canelo will try to counter with the powerful combo's he throws an try to nick the rounds, as Cotto had success switch the left which is Saul's best punch
Tough fight but I'll go for Canelo UD/SD, if its close you'd imagine Canelo would get the nod with the fan backing and floyd on the horizon

Trout will have to KO him to win. He can do it even though he's not a huge puncher given that Canelo is chinny.

El Canelo to walk Trout down and win by a wide UD.

Cheers Gerry. You were saying pretty much the same thing about Bam Bam. Just because they are exciting fighters doesn't mean they are good fighters. Quite the opposite. The hit and not be hit fighters usually triumph.

Re: Canelo vs Trout Predictions
This is definitely a step up in competition for Canelo. I was hugely impressed by Trout and the way he handled Cotto in his last outing. Even with Cotto on the slide I was still surprised.
I think it's going to be a tough night for Canelo but I think he will win via SD. Then again I think even if he knocked Trout out (Which I don't think is going to happen) I still think he wouldn't get the recognition he deserves and those who don't particularly like the direction his career has took thus far will find some insignificant point to pull him down.

Trout is the better fighter imo, but Canelo the more exciting one. Your right to support whoever you want naturally. In fact I want Canelo to win and set up a superfight with Floyd. Boxing needs it. He will win but it would be a robbery.

Re: Canelo vs Trout Predictions
One thing for certain, Canelo can no longer get any grief for his list of opponents. It's a big step up and overall I'm impressed with who he and his team have been trying to get him matched up with over the last couple of years.
I'm hoping for a really competitve fight as I think both can be involved in some big fights over the next few years

I'm also impressed with who his team have been claiming they have been trying to get. Equally pleased with who Team Clev claim they have been trying to get also.

Re: Canelo vs Trout Predictions
Well his team hardly made up the Williams fight. Not his fight what happened there and this is going to be a corking fight. Credit where it's due in this instance. You might end up being right about him being chinny, but we will certainly find out one way or another in the next few fights.

Are you accusing Warren of making things up?
But seriously until they sign I don't believe what managers or promoters say and who they claim they're trying to get.

Sorry Az I thought the Williams fight had been signed, my bad. However as I say this is a great fight one to look forward to and I'd be suprised if the winner doesn't end up fighting Floyd.
Have you caught any of the card from china sounds like it's been a good lineup?

I know the Williams fight was signed. But I said at the time was Paul was past it and made a good name on his record.

He'd lost some of his aura and wasn't at his peak any more but I still don't see anything less than a very good boxer beating him so it would still have been a step in the right direction for him.

My issue is that as a champion Canelo is supposed ot fight the best guys, not stepping stones learning fights. He already got gifted a present from the WBC (Mexican connection no doubt). Fight the best out there.

Re: Canelo vs Trout Predictions
Az who would you have had him fight instead in the last couple of years?
Personnally I think he has been on a steadily improving learning curve. He has had a lot of fights but is only young so still has a lot to learn.
Plus as you say he was hurt by Cotto so it wouldn't have been sensible to throw him straight into the deep end.

Sorry az just seen your other comment. Yes the strap does make it less easy to defend who he has been in with but I think I give him the benefitof the doubt due to most belts being farely worthless these days.

Someone not coming off a 'loss' At that time I would rather he fought Lara. Good matchup against 2 good fighters.

That's my problem with him. If he was a contender then I wouldn't have any complaints. But defending against Mosely is frankly a con job.

And where was Matty Hatton ranked in their catchweight fight for the WBC title?

Re: Canelo vs Trout Predictions
Not a bad shout.
Maybe one that can still happen somewhere down the line.
I can understand the questions surrounding him in the past but I think they are answered with this match. I wouldn't like to have a bet on it though as it's a real pick'em. I haven't seen lots of Trout but if the Cotto fight is anything to go by anything can happen.

I have absolutely no complaints about this fight. Its a unification and credit to both of them for going for it. Trout went for it immediately after winning the belt. Pity Canelo didn't after beating Hatton.
It should be a very good fight as Canelo has a style made for fans. He's exciting. A great clash of styles which will make for a good fight.

How long can you keep using Matthew Hatton though? There were serious attempts to get Williams, Ortiz, Kirkland and now Trout. The last couple of years they have looked to step up his competition considerably.

Re: Canelo vs Trout Predictions
Az, your argument about the champion fighting the best would be valid if the champion was THE champion. Instead, as we all know, he's just A 'champion'. One of many. His learning curve has been well managed in my opinion and the real fans know him for what he is; a work in progress.
Massive test this. For each of them.
Canelo to nick a close fight that some will call a robbery.
