Bute vs Lacy Empty Bute vs Lacy

Post by mobilemaster8 Mon 08 Apr 2013, 14:23

Just having an intriguing discussion on another thread, and this question popped up and was discussed.

The question is simple. Who is/was the better fighter between Bute and Lacy?

Who has the better record and which win is more significant for both Froch and Calzaghe?

This is a poll option along with discussion as i am really interested to hear some views between these 2 fighters.

Thoughts?

Hard to say. Both were highly rated and looked decent beating divisional gatekeepers or has-beens but both turned out to be totally useless when they were put against their first genuine threat.
I'd probably give Bute the edge as he has the slighty better wins on his record but there isnt much between them really.

Not really Truss. This is actually genuine. Im intrigued to know the view of everyone on here regarding these 2.

Both were undfeated going into fights with Calzaghe and Froch (who are compared A LOT).

Both were World Champions.

Who was better and why? Who had the better record? Who would have won in a fight?

Did the Lacy hammering end his career and could it be the same with Bute after his showing against that Russin fella?

I actually rate Lacy and think he was ruined by the Calzaghe beating but Bute has more pedigree and so he edges it for me.

Don't think there's much between them. The Lacey that fought jc, would probably be outboxed by bute, but would have a decent chance of knocking him out. I'd slightly err to Lacey head to head.

Good point Milky. With the supposed power of Lacy, would that have been a problem for Bute? Lacy didnt seem the type to bully and if boxed properly, was there for the taking.

Unlike Froch who is pretty brutal at pressure fighting as we all witnessed against Bute.

just looking a bit more on Lacy and he literally went on to nothing after Joe.

Fought Jones Jr and was retired in corner, then went back to his hometown in Florida and was beaten by UD against Dhafir Smith.

Has not fought since.

Will Bute goes the same way.

Equal records.

Bute more established champ.

Lacey more hype-job.

Lacey exposed and retired subsequently, Bute (looks like) on to other things.

Bute for me.

Will bute go the same way.. Wouldnt surprise me. The way he capitulated against froch doesn't auger well. People will believe if they pressure him he'll go, and more importantly he'll believe it too. Was knocked out as an amateur and came back from that so who knows, wouldn't bet my house on him figuring at top level.

I think we over-rated Lacey in the uk on the back of the Reid fight. Reid was considered iron chinned, so we built Lacey up into a Tysonesque figure. I think he was so slapped down ( forgive me) by jc it just shattered his confidence. It wasnt that he was awful before.

Then again If they did a poll now.......

One direction would probably be higher than The Beatles..

Quite right too truss, better diet, better training, the games moved on. Once cowell tightened up their harmonies, they just upped their game. The Beatles couldn't live with 1d.

Rowley will be along in a minute to say nat king cole takes them both in the same evening

Bute has the better record, more depth in it, but generally both of them fought fringe fighters. Think Bute is the better overall boxer but get a feeling style wise he would maybe get beat by Lacy if Lacy got to him early, otherwise I think Bute easily outboxes him on the outside. Would lean towards Bute on both aspects winning a head to head and easily has a better record.

Tough one but I'd see Lacy get to Bute at some point and stop him. Bute has the power to do the same but see Lacy getting there first.
