Re: NBA Discussion Thread
Brooklyn Nets now 3-10! Brooklyn Nets' disastrous season proving you can't buy chemistry in the NBA! Miami, Indiana, Portland & San Antonio all looking extremely good so far this season.
That Michael Carter-Williams is third in the 'steals' stats this season. Incredible start to season for him.
Other News
Derrick Rose out for the season with a knee injury. Unbelievable. You feel for him but you fear this huge talent could have a career cut massively short.
Kobe Bryant has signed a new two-year deal to remain at the Los Angeles Lakers for a record 20th season. The 35-year-old will become the longest serving player for any NBA franchise if he sees out the contract. Bryant has reportedly taken a £3.71m pay cut but he is still the highest paid NBA player earning £15m a year.
"Our priority was to have Kobe finish his career as a Laker and this should ensure that happens," said general manager Mitch Kupchak.
Bryant is a five-times NBA winner but has not played this season due to a ruptured left Achilles tendon, although he is now back in training.

Re: NBA Discussion Thread
So the two most out-of-form teams in the Eastern Conference, probably in the entire NBA faced off as New York Knicks made the short trip to Brooklyn as both teams looked to break their on-going slump. Knicks eventually ran out 113-83 winners to stop the slide, but the questions have to be asked;
Will Either or Both make the Play-Offs with their current form?
Will Jason Kidd or Mike Woodson get the sack if their current form continues?

Re: NBA Discussion Thread
Call me crazy, but I think if the Knicks actually move Carmelo and get a guy or two who fits Woodson's system better (ie. play defense) the Knicks will be fine.
Jason Kidd is in over his head, he probably should've been an assistant a few years before getting a job, especailly a coaching gig where they foolishly expected an old team like BRooklyn would be good.

Kyle Korver broke the 3 pt record. He`s scored a 3 pointer in 90 consecutive games.
Apparently Carmelo wants Rondo with him in 2014/15 at Knicks

The Nets situation - to quote myself just a page ago,
" Stupid business from Nets. They just got old, overnight. Not winning a coin toss with those oldies."

Re: NBA Discussion Thread
Heat to take It 4-1, maybe 4-2. Indiana absolutely had to win game two, to stand a chance. they didn't, so they don't. Interested to see what Oklahoma do next year, it's Durant's free agent year, and it's become quite apparent that while Him and Westbrook may be best friends forever, they may not be altogether complimentary in the pursuit of a championship

Repeat of last year's final : Miami Heat vs San Antonio Spurs
Feel for Durant, might need to leave Oklahoma to win his first ring.

Re: NBA Discussion Thread
Or Westbrook has to leave. Not too many championship places with the salary space for a Durant type player. Plus some will be waiting to see whether LeBron leaves the Heat. Think he re-signs with the Thunder, and hopes for the best.
Interesting final to call, but I think we'll see a three-Heat. 4-2 Miami. Just think a rather old Spurs team expanded too much energy getting here. Does Duncan retire after this though?

Re: NBA Discussion Thread
Heat was the story in Game 1 of the NBA Finals but not as we expected. Electrical failure caused the air-conditioning to pack up in Miami & the players were struggling throughout in unbearable conditions. LeBron had cramp & was forced off & others suffered from heat exhaustion.
Spurs took the game though & lead 1-0. Interesting start.

Who you backing, john? Think Miami cruise this from here. 4-1, maybe 4-2. San Antonio lost home court, and with that, I think the series. The threepeat is on.

Yeah, you got to back Heat & LeBron. Home court now for next two games, if it goes 3-1 Miami, pretty much game over!

Amazing. Spurs win two on the bounce & take the 3-1 lead, one game from glory. Not sure LeBron can turn this around?

Yeah, LeBron can't do it alone though. The third quarter was embarrassing... James scored 19 points, and his teammates managed to get 2!

Was probably a drawing of the straws for MVP, the entire Spurs team played so well, so disciplined. Anyone in that team would have been worthy

LeBron James, basketball's biggest star, is opting out of the final two years of his Miami Heat contract, which is worth $42.7m (£25.1m).
Back to Cleveland, to see out his career & win a ring for his team?

Carmelo can either join the Bulls & team up with injury prone Rose
OR
Carmelo can join Houston, the team he spoke to today & team up with Howard & Harden.

Re: NBA Discussion Thread
I don't think LeBron is leaving Miami - he's only opted out, so there are no leanings either way. He also welcomed Miami's draft pick on social media - admittedly, that's not particularly indicative of anything, but I found it odd that he'd do that if he's really leaving. Plus, Miami is still the second best team in the league, has fantastic climate, and favourable tax laws.
I think Melo joins Chicago - or maybe Miami if LeBron does leave.... don't think Huston is a serious option

Yeah, huge news. He's going back to Cleveland, not surprised really. Teaming up with Irving, Waiters & Wiggins. Cavaliers are also attempting to bring Kevin Love to Cleveland too.

Re: NBA Discussion Thread
Mike Miller has signed a two year contract with Cleveland. I'm actually upset I didn't put money on this, it was so obvious. LeBron rates Mike very highly, and they are best friends. By all accounts, LeBron started feeling like leaving when the Heat refused to re-sign Miller. Appeasing James aside, its a good signing for the Cavs. Miller shot 46% from the three. Gonna lead to good spacing.

Re: NBA Discussion Thread
Yeah, good point. Miller is a good team player, should do well. I see Pau Gasol has joined Chicago Bulls. Carmelo looks like he's staying in the big apple.

Re: NBA Discussion Thread
Didn't see the Gasol signing. Even Gasol in his diminished form is a better big man than Carlos Boozer. If Rose can stay fit, I think the Bulls become real competitors. Eastern Conference becomes a real free for all.

Shocking leg break last night for Paul George, one of my favourite players in the NBA. Devastating for him & the Pacers. Hopefully comes back stronger.

The Timberwolves have agreed for All-Star Kevin Love to be exchanged for Cleveland's Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a protected 2015 first-round pick. LeBron, Irving & Love together should be interesting.
