BT Coverage of Rugby Empty BT Coverage of Rugby

Post by Jimpy Tue Apr 09, 2013 11:06 am

Have there been any developments with regards to how BT are rolling this out?

Presumably Sky customers will definately get it, and simply have to replace ESPN - but do Virgin customers, who currently get ESPN for free look set likely to pay? Are Virgin even picking up the BT package?

Who knows?
Whilst the ERC argument goes on, I suspect that there are a number of packaging options being held in abeyance.

I would definitely NOT assume Sky customers will get it.

Sky only give BT 1/2 of their sports coverage so I see no chance of BT providing all there sports coverage to Sky

I would be amazed if BT reciprocate Sky's behaviour. Sky restricted BT selling their sports package as they were selling it cheaper than Sky were. BT on the other hand as a new provider will be keen to entice as many people as possible. The only restriction I can see is if Sky choose not to show the BT sports, but without any regular rugby they may struggle to justify doing this, especially after they have allowed competitors previosuly in Setanta and ESPN.

Whilst I have a strong dislike to the journalistic practices of News international, I am not of the moral fibre that I stayed away from Sky Sports. However, as I only get Sky Sports for the rugby I fully intend to cancel my subscription and move to BT sports - I can also claim to practice what I preach!

Rugby will not be a prominent field of conflict in the corporate wars over Sky/BT sports predominance.

The BBC's RU league rugby coverage might be a casualty though.

If BT want to sell their coverage to the widest possible audience, i.e. from Sky, then they're going to have to play ball.

BT will insist Sky give them equal access to Sky coverage as Sky get the other way round.

There is no way BT will give 100% of their coverage to Sky and only get 50% back the other way.

To be honest if it comes down to choosing between
Aviva, HC from BT
or
SH rugby and England/Ireland Autumn internationals from Sky

I know what I'll select and it wont be Sky.
Will go to the Irealnd internationals and I can live without the rest of the Sky package

I tend to get sky for a month for the AI and then cancel. Think you have to give a months notice so sign up and cancel immediately.

I would watch s15 sooner than either premiership or T14. If there is no hc and the french and english are offski then I just need the rabo and that is either fta or sky.

So I'd have sky

If the rabo was fta and there was no hc. I would not have either.

Ye If I'm honest I watch more S15 on a sat morning than I do AP, and never really get the chance to watch T14!!!

HC is great, but would I swap to BT for HC and AP alone? Nah!!!

I reckon there's a pretty good chance Japan would sell the UK broadcast rights to BBCW or S4C. It depends if they offer a 'fair' amount. I know games played in Argentina and the PI have't been televised in the UK in the past because the TV company wasn't willing to give the unions their minimum

I bet you won't find out the true ramifications until they start a price hike.

I understood that you will need the BT Affinity (?) package which will rely on you having superfast broadband or cable i.e. not satellite dish.

BT are rolling this out but if you are not in the appropriate area regardless of any other stuff you have (dish, aerial etc) you simply won't be able to receive it.

Currently BT have no plans to extend their connection to where I live so ... no Aviva prem for us down here in the boondocks.

There will be a lot of people like us who will similarly have NO access to whatever English Rugby sell to BT.

After watching the Super games today I would take that over any AP or T14 anyday of the week, plus the F1, football, NBA and Rabo/international games...

I suspect BT will struggle to get the numbers who will sign over purely for AP and HC!!!

Where's that from? I've tried looking into it but struggled to get any information with signing onto a mailing list
