Re: Do you avoid behind the scenes documentaries too ???
Always depends on the film in question.
I watched the Jaws one that's on the DVD and it was good. Didn't matter about seeing the Shark being built and operated as I've known since probably the first time I watched it that it was a robot.
Saw City Of God last year and I'd agree with you Truss, regarding that one. I'd never watch a behind the scenes about that, it'd spoil things to see all the cast getting along nicely.

I tend to avoid any of the extras with the occasional exception of deleted scenes if the film was that good I just can't get enough of it.
Behind the scenes documentaries are ok for films based on real-life incidents/stories but when they involve interviews with the director &/or actors tend to be a load of pretentious waffle that undermines the viewing experience.
My worst is the outtakes, watching the same fluffed line for the fifth time followed by the obligatory screeching actor and giggling crew, why do they even add them as a feature? I've got Will Ferrell's f*****g face in my head now.

some of the docs are sometimes better than the films (hearts of darkness for example)
i thought the documentary on the original Halloween was superb too.

Hearts of darkness was deemed good enough for its own DVD release. Instead of being slapped onto Apocalypse Now's bonus features.

Problem is by seeing the guy playing michael Myers pulling faces with the mask....
It kind of humanizes the shape when you watch it again.

I tend to avoid them Truss solely for the reason most actors are so far up their own backside it makes me cringe. Remember watching the one for Casino and Sharon Stone made we want to puke, it’s acting it’s not cracking the enigma code, read your lines, look happy when you’re meant to and look sad when you’re meant to.
