Re: Whats up Doc...
Can't blame him really.
Spent the last 8 or so years balancing professional rugby and studying medicine. Imagine the stress and things he's had to avoid doing which he's now got more time to do, he can go live a bit now, come back later in his career, before retiring to become a doctor.
Best of luck to him at Racing

Re: Whats up Doc...
Well he hardly had Blues rugby to worry about, what was it 6 appearances in 2 seasons...
With the Lions tour, Wales commitments built into his contracts etc I think Racing have shelled out on a bit of a dud, he'll either be half fit/injured for them or will run himself too thin trying to play for both teams and his performances will be half copped, either way Racing aren't going to be seeing a lot of quality from him!!! I'd say his work load rugby wise just doubled, then the added travel..

Congrats Jamie...
Diito to that Biggles
A person who has balanced an intensive study program with top class performances for club, country, the Baa Baas and the Lions (Man of the series) and achieved it consistently over a fair few seasons, hardly ever see him in the press or media apart from some decent and well constructed interviews. Probably revered by more people outside of Wales than inside...... BOD loved playing alongside him at the highest test level, as did Fourie for the Baa Baas. The interview he gave last weekend when he was fighting back the tears showed how much the Cardiff Blues meant to him. Now that the studies are out of the way and the Lions series will be a distant memory, Racing will have a player who will be able to give them his total dedication and commitment.
A credit to your country Doctor Roberts............. now get out there and enjoy the sun

Re: Whats up Doc...
In an interview in today's South Wales Echo, Jamie says he won't commit to practising as a doctor until he's finished playing rugby. That's sensible. When I was a lad, our family doctor was Jack Matthews. On the few occasions I visited the surgery, Dr Jack always seemed to need treatment more than me - sticking plaster, etc! But in those days - the early 1950s - nobody could earn a living playing rugby.

Congrats Dr Roberts a fine example for young rugby players to look to,
Of course the real hard work will start when he retires from Rugby and starts the real medical training

Fair play to him. That's a major achievement doing the two in tandem.
Playing on with a fractured skull when he bashed into Mortlock wasn't too good though. Physician Don't Trust Thyself!

Re: Whats up Doc...
He's Jamie Roberts M.D. not Dr Roberts. Only real students who make themselves unemployable so that they can devote more time to rugby forums can have Dr as the title.
That said, well done Doogie Roberts. Hopefully he can patch that Welsh backline back together and have everyone up and running freely again instead of knocking themselves out with all this bosh up the middle stuff.

Wonder how long he'll get away with not doing his F1/2 hospital jobs needed to be registered at the GMC. It's a different world to Jack Mathews and JPR. He'll have forgotten half he knows in a couple of years and I can't see him getting the largesse he got from a friendly medical school Dean

Actually he is unlikely to be an M.D as that requires a potgrad degree in UK. On completion of an undergrad medical degree in England and Wales he will probably be either Dr J Roberts MB.BS or if they use the latin nomenclature Dr J Roberts MB.BCh. (I funded my now ex-wife through Med School - and spent hours upon hours helping her through the plethora of post-grad qualifications needed to become a "Senior" Consultant at a Central London Teaching Hospital - so once knew a little about the process)

That was one of the reasons he was talking about quitting rugby a year or so ago.
Of course most SpR treat their trainees as if they know nothing anyway.

Re: Whats up Doc...
Fair play to him, juggling pro rugby with a medical degree cant have been easy no matter how friendly the dean was! Kind of makes me think my weekends in the pub maybe abit of a waste!
Met him in Croatia last summer was a top top guy to boot!
