Mayweather to fight in UK
Just seen this on the BBC,
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/22351479
Ellerbe said: "Floyd cannot wait until we can come over there and give the UK fans a big, big fight."
He is planning on visiting the UK later this year ahead of returning for a fight.
"Floyd has a tremendous fan base in the UK and we're looking at working on something now where he's going to come over there," added Ellerbe.
"Ever since the Ricky Hatton fight back in 2007, UK fans have been very loyal to Floyd and he definitely acknowledges that and he wants to bring a big, big event to the UK.
I'm talking with a couple of people now and they're giving me some options, and Floyd will definitely be coming to the UK.
The UK are his biggest and best fans. He has tremendous love affair for the UK fans
We'll see how this thing plays out, his focus is Saturday night and then we'll go from there. But we're definitely going to bring a big, big event to the UK."
I'm sure this has been put forward a few times since the Hatton fight but nothing has ever come of it.
Anyone believe he'll come over here for a fight?
Is Khan the only opponent or would a fight against a non UK fighter sell just as well?

He won't fight over here, there is more money to be made in Vegas. He may come over to do some promotional work but I doubt he'd fight here, unelss as you say it's against Amir Khan.

Kell Brook, maybe?
Can't see it personally unless a very serious WW/LMW contender bursts on the scene from somewhere.
Khan's the only realistic one and he struggles to sell seats so won't be a fraction the money Floyd would make in LV.

No he wont, he will fight in vegas and only vegas. He's "Money" mayweather and the monry.is in vegas
Cant imagine that Showtime will be too happy if they have to show a UK time fight in the middle of the afternoon, viewers wont be nearly as good

Re: Mayweather to fight in UK
Cheap bit of publicity ahead of this weekend's fight in order to garner some more viewers on boxnation and what have you. Gets's him some column inches on the UK websites and no doubt will appear on SKYSPORTS news at some point.
As has been said the money isn't over here, even with Khan. Khan actually has a better following in the states, where I think he is more appreciated, than he does here so even that fight would make much more sense in the bright lights of Vegas.

Re: Mayweather to fight in UK
It certainly will Truss...
Where would you see it selling better though?
In terms of PPV (which it would be both stateside and on these shores) timing wise you would have to say they would want the fight stateside. They will obviously get a larger buy rate over there than here so makes sense to fight in America at 8pm than to have it here, showing in America mid afternoon or early evening.
However where a fight in the UK stands up is stadium. They could easily sell out a football stadium somewhere here..what size I wouldn't be to sure but certainly be looking at 30,000 plus capacity. The amount of money that can be made by selling out a 50,000 seater stadium in comparison to a casino holding 20,000 odd in Vegas cannot be discounted.
I think a lot would depend on whether they could convince the fighters to fight at a different time to normal to appease the American audience. If they had a UK fight and the boxers were willing to come out at say 2am then perhaps...but would paying fans be willing to attend such a late event?
All signs do point to America I think....but I would love it if they had it here and would mostly definitely attend!!

Re: Mayweather to fight in UK
You could see Golden Boy being willing to take a financial hit to really give their push into the UK market some impetus but as others have said the chances of Floyd being willing to do similar seem unlikely. Is a pity but with the US PPV market being what it is it is virtually impossible to make a fight over here for the same sort of money fighting in Vegas would, even packing Wembley stadium out.
As other have alluded to will believe it when I see it.

Re: Mayweather to fight in UK
The casinos pay more for fights than they generate on tickets ozzy because they more than make up the shortfall in the amounts at the tables and in the comps for high rollers who dump absolute fortunes at the tables on big fight weekends. What this means is the promoters tend to get paid just as much, if not more than they would putting the fight in a outdoor stadium.
Remember reading somewhere the venue for DLH Trinidad basically gave 90% of the ringside seats away to their big high rollers but to get one you had to have a credit line of $100k with the casino, if you have a few hundred people losing anywhere near that figure you are into some serious numbers there.

Yeh, because nobody in England has seen those fights.....
PBF Khan may be a bigger draw over here than Brook Khan but that's down to PBF and I still don't see how it'd be more than he'd get in the States. Unless it's as a loss-leader I still don't see how a big Floyd fight over here is a financially viable opportunity.

Re: Mayweather to fight in UK
A Floyd PPV card costs $60-$70 a person which is about £30-£40 which I doubt they will get enough UK buyers and US buyers (will be about 3pm when it'll be shown) to make it worth it
He sells out MGM with A listers a plenty with the least expensive seats at hundreds of dollars each, with a live gate of about £10mil which is a hell of a lot and impossible for him to get in the UK regardless of the venue

Re: Mayweather to fight in UK
Well he's got a 6 fight deal to see through, at least 2 of those fights could be against a Brook or Khan type. As long as he still fights the stars (Alvarez etc) he could still get away with a UK fight against either of those 2.

Close fight, but he was robbed in the sense that it should've been declared a NC and Peterson stripped of his belts. But that's not the American way......

If Petersen was stripped the title would become vacant....hence khan would've lost the title anyway...

The only fights I can see is Khan if he is in a good place, and maybe Kell Brook if he has become a champ or beaten anyone rated well... otherwise im not sure who he can fight over here unless its another big American name and he just wants to promote the fight in the UK for a change..

When's he gonna fight Canelo as promised ? Instead of proclaiming his the greatest, bout time he stepped up to the plate to prove this, he avoided Pacman he now has the the chance to make amends.

Don't like the truth big fella, maybes Leonard should've skated around Hearns and Duran!
Don't get me wrong probs one of the best in last 15 years a wonderful fighter, but a top 10 ATG status is frankly scandalous, considering he skates those greatest risk to him.

Top of the game for fifteen years..fighter of the year three times....countless titles..great victories........ and because you're an old man who craves the past you're dismissing him..

Old man ? I'm in my prime.
It is the truth, top of the game in 15 years , yet misses his biggest challenge, like I said imagine Leonard not fighting Hearns or Duran ?
Fighting your victor ortiz's once a year is hardly enhancing your domination.
Yeah great fighter but please don't proclaim your one of the best.

So it's ok for you to give to credit for titles Mayweather won at Jnr mid? But since the no 1 ranked fighter is big he should give him a miss.

Who cares that he started at 130?
He is a good fighter, but beating up limited fighters like Ortiz or Guerrero doesn't do anything for him. Camelot would enhance his 'legacy' but he won't take it because he won't have a 50:50 fight.

Don't really get that, is it fine for him to fight bigger fighters as long as they aren't good enough to beat him or are past there best
Corrales, Castillo, Baldomir, DLH, Cotto, Ortiz, Gatti etc all had at least a 12 pound weight advantage over Floyd, some probabaly where as much as 20lbs heavier
Why should he fight a guy who can actually beat him? So he can prov show good he is

Floyd doesn't have competitive fights.
Someone like a Leonard or Duran would fight someone with a big size advantage to level the playing field.
Floyd won't, nothing wrong with that but he can't proclaim he is the greatest.

So true.
Had Martinez won comfortably many would be claiming Floyd was ducking him. If Floyd had fought him and won they would be clamouring for him to fight Ward.....until they start calling out Wlad.
Pathetic haters. We have a genuine top 10 ATG and many simply laugh because he was born after 1970.

Re: Mayweather to fight in UK
I think Mayweather will comfortably go down as an all time great but in all fairness, many of the points made against him are valid.
Ive no problem with his career up to the de la Hoya/Hatton fights but beyond that his inactivity and failure to take on the biggest challenges count against him and are fair game for criticism.
I dont expect Mayweather to chase Alvarez up to middleweight if thats where Alvarez goes but if he stays at light middle over the next 12 months and Mayweather opts for easier opponents then missing out on Pacquaio and Cotto at 147 and then Alvarez at 154 is a big negative.
