Barbarian F.C. V BandI Lions
Was just thinking will the Barbarian team be made up of players that would be considered to be on standby?
It would be a good chance for the coaches to view them one last time, and if there are any injuries in training or in the game, it means the replacements are close by.
People have already come up with lists for, A team of those left behind... and Lions Parachutists.
Current confirmed squad for Barbarian F.C. as of 28 April 2013
Leonardo Ghiraldini
Martin Castrogiovanni
Sergio Parisse
Imanol Harinordoquy
Kahn Fotuali'i
Nick Evans
Jaque Fourie
Mike Tindall
Rowan Varty
Do you think that the likes of Best, Brown, Grant, Robshaw, Care, Zebo, Visser will be called to the Barbarians as well.
Personally I think it may be a good idea to have the Barbarians team have a strong NH feel to it, guys that just missed the cut for the lions, mixed with a few Fench Italians and a number of SH players.
I think the Ba Baa's are a good team to face first, just becuase they are two scratch teams and playing against a well drilled team that is used to playing together may be more difficult.

Robshaw could go.... he's not going to Argentina as he is to be rested by Lancaster. It would be amazing... play the lions, win MOTM. Put two fingers up to the staff the proper way.

I'd imagine he have a few words to say about it, he should have gone even if it was only for the mid-week squad.

Re: Barbarian F.C. V BandI Lions
I remember when I was dropped to the bench for the first time when I was 18, had a full contact session a couple of days before the game and lined up against the guy who took my place.... I wanted to show the coach he made a mistake... first contact I dump tackled him and it was one of the best feelings I ever had on the rugby field.
I remember the coach looked at me as the play stopped, smiled and said, "point taken".
I'm sure Robshaw would jump at the chance.

To be fair where's Robshaw to fit? Tipuric is the form 7 and Warburton has been named captain. Hence no space for him, It's harsh but Croft being initially left out last time. He went on to show the coaches they were wrong and Robshaw could still get that chance.

As the barbarians are coached by a Welshman, I daresay the team comprise mostly Welshmen with Kahn and Nick making the decisions.

Re: Barbarian F.C. V BandI Lions
I think the quality the Baa Baas are able to put out makes this a very very difficult match for the Lions.
They could really upset the whole tour if they win.
Both teams will have minimal time to get ready. With many of the top players resting for the lions due to playing finals etc I think the Baa baas will be very confident.

Ryan Jones has been rested for the Wales summer tour as well
Would love a back row of
6 Robshaw / Brown / Ryan Jones
7 Barclay / Rennie
8 Ben Morgan / Beattie / Ryan Jones
Managed and coached by Dai Young and Edwards.......Any of the above combos to crank it up against
6 Warbs
7 Tuperic
8 Faletau
Taken royally to the cleaners and best wishes/sendoff to the selection committee as Gats Howley Farrell Snr Rowntree look at their feet twitching shuffling about and coughing nervously

Yeah Warbs/Tips and Toby really struggled against the might of Robshaw, Croft et al last time out - They were just blown away - Talk about over egging it

I think Italy are playing in a four-way tournament in South Africa with Scotland and another side. Or I could have dreamt it.

Ruby lets talk about the last 4 weeks not something that was generated in March when Ken Owens came on because up to that point Robshaw was dealing very nicely with Warbs/Tips and the score was quite close.
Lets talk about Toby and the Dragons over the last month, lets talk about the Os performance against Glasgow generally or specifically Grant v Jones in the scrum and Hibbard popping up under the pressure, or how Barclay mullered Tips over the 80 mins, or the week before when Warbs outplayed him. Lets talk about Crofts performance over the last month or even Browns performance for the Sarries in the Heino semi-final. Lets talk about how well Ken Owens played against Glasgow when the Scarlets pack dominated..... only a week later the same Glasgow pack destroyed the Os and in particularly Hibbs and Jones with Grant sealing his spot in the Lions tour (oh sorry what am I thinking of)
The only Os player who came out of the Glasgow match with any self satisfaction was Biggar and unbelievably he hasn't even been considered !!!

Re: Barbarian F.C. V BandI Lions
So you want to pick on Regional issues - That's fine - I tend to think a better barometer is when the internationals play each other as that is when we see the combinations at work and the power of those players who are unfotunately playing in poor sides. God forbid what Farrell would be like playing for the Dragons etc. Hartley and Stevens aside Gats has got it about right with a few open to debate. The sour grapes can go on and on, but like the Murphys I'm not bitter

Why did he play for Fiji if he didn't want to ever play for them again? Strange decision

Re: Barbarian F.C. V BandI Lions
To be fair with the players they've already listed there plus a few guys who missed out on Lions selection added in who are hungry to prove a point, I see more than a good chance of them turning up a shock win that could do serious damage early in a tour!
The Lions can count themselves lucky that Toulon and Clermont players wont be available for the Lions because guys like Sheridan, Hayman, Botha, Hines, Van Niekerk, etc are just the sort of players the Barbarians usually relish picking. Imagine a side with some of those guys available, plus some hungry near Lions and then the already listed Parisse etc.
1.Sheridan
2.Best
3.Hayman
4.Botha
5.Hines
6.Kelly Brown or Ryan Jones
7.Robshaw
8.Parisse
9.Fotuali'i
10.Evans
11.Zebo
12.Hook
13.Fourie or Tindall
14.JSD - always my choice!
15.Nacewa
I wouldn't half fancy the odds of that team against the Lions squad! This is of course fantasy however as the Toulon/Clermont players sadly won't be available and we have no idea who else will be added to the squad.

18. Debaty
19. Hines
20. Harinorduquy
21. Fotu-ali
