Floyd v Guerrero poll
MAYWEATHER PREDICTIONS AND CHAT THREAD
Really excited to see the most gifted man in sport. Back.
I'm going to try and watch in Sunday morning without knowing the result, so in advance, if anyone could post a youtube link (legal) on here, Sunday morning, then I'd bromance you forever
Anyway, predictions and thoughts on how the fight goes. Can you give my a quick summary of how you see it going down and a prediction. Let me show you mine:
I see The Ghost coming out with his hands up and trying to take it to Mayweather in the middle of the ring. He will have learnt that from Mayweather's last two fights that the ropes simply don't get it done. Cotto and Victor both landed shots, but they also wore themselves out slugging away on the ropes. Foreman style.
So, The Ghost to try and work the body in the first four rounds. Mayweather picking him off and shelling up when required, straight right's and body exchanges, a lack of check left's for once.
By the middle rounds The Ghost goes upstairs, starts to fight dirty, starts to try and push Mayweather against the ropes and unload. Mayweather may lose one or two rounds in the grapple, it may actually may be close in the middle rounds, but with pressure comes exposure, and The Ghost will eat some hard hooks to the side of the head... and body.
By the final four I will have Mayweather up by two or three and that's when he takes control. Putting icing on the cake with piercing blows through the gloves.
A great comeback, a great fight.
Thoughts?

pts for floyd, although i am sure katsidis gave guerrero trouble with his body punching, so may be a late tko after softening up his long torso, but that wasnt an option..

Re: Floyd v Guerrero poll
Ain't no way Robert Guerrero gets KO'd by Floyd Maweather.
In 7 fights at Welterweight, Mayweather has KO'd 3 of his opponents. Sharmba Williams, Ricky Hatton and Victor Ortiz(by a cheap shot). Both Williams and Hatton where career junior welterweights.
Berto who hits twice as hard as Mayweather couldn't even wobble Guerrero. So how's Mayweather gonna KO Guerrero?
As for the result, Guerrero by split decision.

Floyd wins by UD an I seriously doubt that Floyd stops him
As Gerry alluded to Mayweather doesn't carry real power, enough to keep you honest and walking through him, but isn't a renown puncher. Berto hits harder, although less often, and Guerrero took his shots pretty well

Guerrero wins the first 90 seconds and is schooled after that. Floyd is a very accurate puncher so a ko wouldn't surprise me.

Re: Floyd v Guerrero poll
Easy nights work for Floyd this one.
A lot is being made of Guerrero after his performance against Berto, and there seems to be this idea that he is an avoided fighter who has flown under the radar somewhat. Much like Sergio Martinez. Unlike the Argentine however he doesn't have that much on his ledger to suggest he poses any problems for Floyd bar being a Southpaw.
Granted the Berto performance was good but is that enough to suddenly make him this threat at Welterweight...not for me. Nor does it suggest he is of the level to take on Floyd.
He has wins of Litzau, Berto and thats about it. Katsidis is far short of elite level and Casaymayor was a few years beyond his best and thats being polite.
Saw enough even in the Berto fight to suggest that Mayweather deals with him easily. He will be eating the jab all night long and it honestly wouldn't shock me to see him stopped on his feet late on (somewhere around the 10th).
Whilst Guerrero looks good at the weight I would still say that it is a more natural weight for Mayweather. Like Az says, power isn't everything required to stop a fighter...get the timing right and a quick short shot can be just as devastating as a wound up big one.

Re: Floyd v Guerrero poll
Pity Pac-May never happened, it would have been a shot in the arm for the sport. Failing that, Floyd will do a million PPVs again, and all will be well with the world. How much is Guerrero getting for this fight? And more importantly what are the odds? I put £100 on May, but if its past 20/1 for Guerrero, I might as well throw 50 quid

Re: Floyd v Guerrero poll
I wouldn't take anything less than 25/1 for Guerrero, thats how one sided I think this fight is...joking, but I do genuinely think this will end up being a one sided clinic from Floyd (unless he has aged overnight)

Re: Floyd v Guerrero poll
I'm going to stick a wee bet on Guerrero KO at 12/1
Floyds training camp looks unsettled to me. Uncle and father involvement looks disruptive. He had definitely slipped (slightly) against Cotto. A year out plus time in prison. Just signed a massive deal with Showtime. It's all ripe for a fall.
I get the feeling Guerrero wants it more.

I've merged the two topics together, I see Floyd pulling out a wide UD or a late stoppage similar to the Hatton fight.

If Mayweather loses this, the whole Pac-May discussions will look like a huge case of "what where we thinking".
Mayweathers doccie pulled in low ratings, The fight is not sold out yet, is America finally tired of Mayweathers fight-picking?

Re: Floyd v Guerrero poll
Depends what you define as fight picking. Mayweather is WBC champ and Guerrero is his mandatory, if Mayweather chose to vacate certain people (non of here) would accuse him of ducking. Mayweather obviously feel's he can demand more of the purse if he brings a belt to the discussions so fighting his mandatory is the right thing to do.

Re: Floyd v Guerrero poll
I’ve been impressed with Guerrero but he seems tailor-made for Mayweather. As such, I’m going to stick my neck out and predict a massacre, Mayweather to wind back the years and utterly demolish his man.
I’m going with a late stoppage, Guerrero’s corner to pull him out between rounds 9 and 11 after receiving a one-sided beating.

Guerrero seems to be underrated by many on here. Guess we'll find out Sunday but I think this is a tougher fight than Canelo for Floyd. Guerrero is just an all round better boxer than Canelo and good inside or out.
Tough fight that Floyd should win and get more credit for when the ghost goes onto big things in the future also.

When has pre-fight smack-talk ever had anything to do with the fight?
See the other (emore, I think) thread. Few of those comments were specifically to do with the fight, were still entertaining smack (usually designed to provoke) which is probably what Ruben is doing here. He knows his son has no chance if Floyd calmly boxes in his shell all night.

Also, didn't one of the Mayweather's bring up Guerrero's wife's health issues - what's that got to do with anything? You can't slap someone in the face then cry to your mommy when they slap you back.

Straight down the middle good guys? Ruben Guerrero has been to jail himself, and his son just got arrested for carrying a gun and will go infront of the judge after this fight charged with criminal possession..

Re: Floyd v Guerrero poll
Yea its becoming a bit difficult to keep with Roberts good guy religious act when his father is there almost gloating about how he went to jail for a longer time than Floyd did and he took it like a 'man'. Add that Robert was caught with a fire arm and is always talking about how he likes to keep guys in the fight just to beat them up
Reuben needs to realise that he's not fighting (or maybe he will) but his son is and needs to stop making a boobie of himself and allow his son to be in the best frame of mind
Mayweather won't give a damn about pre fight smack talk, so why bother. If anything the Guerrero's have upped the trash talking as the fight gets closer whereas Floyd is being more withdrawn
All seems a little exaggerated on Guerrero's part making it seem almost fake

Still think that's a deliberately overly-simplistic way to find a stick to beat him with. He turned up at the airport, handed the gun over himself when checking in, it wasn't concealed or found on a search, he openly disclosed it.
Yes he was wrong, which is why he has been charged with a crime, but a stupidity/ignorance excuse washes a lot better with him than it does with Floyd beating his missus.

What they should have done is told him they'd be seeing him to get a statement at a later date.....
If he's beating Mayweather after six rounds...Then would be as good a time as any to insist on him making one..

Re: Floyd v Guerrero poll
Personally get the impression it's more a case of the Guerrero's talking up their chances in attempt to make themselves believe.
This is a huge pay day for Robert, one which he has never been close to making before and unless he wins will likely never win again...does he believe he can actually win though. I think in his heart of hearts he doesn't.
I really don't get the furore around Guerrero. Granted he is a good fighter...but a top ten P4P'er...not in my eyes! Ring magazine put too emphasis on this 'weight hopping' sometimes and whilst I do think he has great achievements in winning titles at 4 weights his record his hardly stacked with stellar names.
As I said earlier he gets broken down in a bit of a clinic by Mayweather, who will show he is perhaps not declining in the manner some people believe and wins either very lop sided decision or may even take him out late on.

Re: Floyd v Guerrero poll
You know the factor in this fight is what has Mayweather got left.........
People are basing the fight on the last Mayweather they saw.....He's reaching an age now when coupled with his relative inactivity no one knows for sure what kind of Mayweather turns up........
Fathertime and all...............
Why I'm picking Guerrero.
