"There's Got To Be Someone Who Plays Tennis Who Is Gay"
First topic message reminder :
"There's Got To Be Someone Who Plays Tennis Who Is Gay". So says Sam Querrey.
http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013/05/querrey-theres-got-be-someone-who-plays-tennis-who-gay/47291/#.UYGF3spGTIU
This comes after the NBA player Jason Collins came out as gay on Monday this week. Well I suppose Querrey must be correct. But if so should any gay players shout about it? If they do presumably it's to make some sort of political point. Or should they just keep quiet and focus on their backhands and forehands? Life as a tennis pro is difficult enough without choosing to become an ambassador of gay rights.

@touch(A)parabola ... Very glad to 'see' you after a long while.
Show of affection between same sexes has some very interesting variants across the world, from being secretive to publicly flaunting.
Intellectual achievements are just one aspect of such variations and perhaps may not be the right barometer.
Very glad to know tolerance of individuality and respect for individual choices is welcome.

I guy I knew once accidentally drove his car into a tree - I told him that was taking 'trying everything once' too far.

Haha, I wear them on weekends, Used to wear them more frequently, but then a lady I work with asked me a very funny question: I was coming in to work for the morning news, so I was at work at four, in track pants and a skinny T, and she asks me: "Just got back from your evening work as a stripper?", I laughed it off, and quietly stopped wearing them to work..

Re: "There's Got To Be Someone Who Plays Tennis Who Is Gay"
I'm glad to hear that at least through the humour you can guys express yourself. These are some of the first steps to liberate yourself especially if you have concluded that at least 10% of the guys on this forum must be gay.
@Laverfan - If the rest of the members are welcoming like you are, there would be more women on this forum.
@bogbrush - No, on the contrary, Im here to object people's prejudice.
* Men who are not afraid to give a friendly kiss to the other guy or is not afraid to have a poodle are more secure in their sexuality. Being in touch with your feelings and releasing them without being embarrassed makes everyone less likely to be depressed and violent. If you suppress you feelings, it causes negative energy to leak somewhere else, perhaps on a weaker person. That is how mucho men typically cure their frustrations and at the same time pretend that they are tough.
* Macho male should not be observed on physical appearance. His attitude speaks much more. You think that by being polite puts you in the category of moral and tolerant persons, where as I think and feel that it just gives you the layer of camouflage and the fouls right for you to judge others from some (only known to you) superior position. If you look at the concrete results (I will be happy to share with your many more examples and reports as you wish), you can see where your women are in society, in science, in sport (especially in competitive sport such as tennis), in politics… That same attitude toward women reflects your attitude toward ethnic groups and sexuality.

Re: "There's Got To Be Someone Who Plays Tennis Who Is Gay"
Thats not entirely true, after all, black men were allowed to vote before women. A good proportion of the regulars here are women, and I don't think any debate here has been ended with a gender/racial slur. Even homophobia is something which I haven't seen here.
I must say I'm not a fan of the 10% theory being used in all walks of life and professions. Gay people tend to gravitate more towards the arts, thus there would be a biggerbigger ration of gay people there. To assume that one in ten heterosexual sports fans are secretly gay is a big assumption. The same saying nine in ten fashion designers are straight, just because that's the general statistic.
Not picking a fight, I honestly wouldnt have an issue with that being the case, its just applying one in ten for every walk of life doesn't hold water!

Can I just say that there is a General Discussion forum for serious non-tennis issues, and that the tennis forum should not stray too far from tennis.

It took me a long time to come out as hairy. I was worried what my parents and friends would think but it turns out they had always suspected I was hirsute.

But I do worry about how my friends would perceive me if I came out wearing normal shirts, with the tank top INSIDE, as an umdergarment rather that the garment.

Humour relieves tensions and perhaps reminds us of the ability to laugh and exercise it.

I also recall that English is not your primary language. There are a few of us women on v2. You are correct, I wish there were more.

I don't think being polite does anything such, I just know that I'm correct, relaxed, tolerant and honest and you're all messed up with prejudice and resentment..* Macho male should not be observed on physical appearance. Oh, and as for politics we had a woman leader over 30 years ago. You may have heard of her.
And a Serb lecturing us on ethnic tolerance? Irony beyond belief!

@Laverfan -
I appreciate that you are keeping some balance here, but you have to admit that many comments on this news were very provoking from the beginning. Not that I think that being gay is an insult, but no one has the right to be making up the stories, mocking people and certain countries.
Now, you may continue living in illusion, guessing, provoking… Now, I will stop disturbing your preconceived thoughts. Adios.

These were not my statistics - you guys brought up those % first. Please, go back to the beginning of this topic.bogbrush wrote:

Again, you guys are the first ones to bring up poodles into the comments which became a call to others to jump on the badwagon.bogbrush wrote:

What you see in your media, please keep it for yourself. To remind you, if was not Serbia that went thousands of kilometers away in order to conquer. We did not move away from our land, although it would be nice to get to Caribbeans.bogbrush wrote:

Whats wrong with moving away from your land? Free world, and all. Theres actually a small Serbian community where I live, havent learnt much myseld, though, just dobar dan and dobrodošli and a few other words.
Haddie-nuff and Hawkeye are also female. A lack of females doesnt signal some sort of misogny, Just that theres a lack of females.

He means that Serbs didn't travel thousands of miles to colonise another country.
They just went next door to commit genocide
