We must appreciate that there is a difference between sparring a middleweight and taking a 12 round professional fight against a super middle coming down to 160 though.

I have some doubt's about that. You will tend to find that numbers get inflated if the initial figures aren't as good as networks first hoped. Obviously they won't be able to inflate them to much but a small increase leaves both network and fighter looking in a better position next time around.
The rumours across varies media outlets etc have placed the figure somewhere betwen 700-900,000 and I would be much more inclined to believe these.
One of the main problems which seems to be overlooked was that the fight itself drew extremely poorly on the gate. Now obviously there are always tickets given away because it's vegas and the money is made on the table's. Yet this is the first time in many years that there have been various concerns as to the drawing power of Floyd.
With showtime giving him full control over the documentaries in the build up, they also expected much more in terms of viewing figures for the shows, which again didn't draw particularly well.
I figure he will either be asked to step up his competition in the next of a scheduled 6 fight contract.....or perhaps more likely will be told to return to the 'brash & arrogant' role which we were accustomed to seeing in the build up to many of his previous fights.

Its all a load of rubbish, apparently Showtime are counting and its already exceeded 1mil buys, not surprising really, this IS Mayweather.

No idea what to believe on the numbers but I think it might have done worse as people knew they would see Floyd again as part of the 6 fight deal. Being Semi retired for the last few years probably left people wanting to watch his fights as they thought it could be his last.

Not sure why they need to 'count'. Computer systems should do that for you.

Re: **RUMOUR** Mayweather PPV under 1m
So...Showtime have signed a deal with Mayweather $200 million, so over 6 fights he averages $33.3 million per fight. Im slightly confused here so in hindsight regardless of who he fights he will 'only' get $33.3 per fight? e.g. next opponent is Canelo or just say Alexander... in a ideal world the Canelo fight generates more numbers so if he fights Alexander he will still get $33.3 million, is that right or can someone please explain this deal, thanks.

Re: **RUMOUR** Mayweather PPV under 1m
My understanding is that Mayweather was given a guarantee of 200m with his Showtime deal. Thats the minimun he will recieve for his 6 fights. How much above that 200m he makes will depend on the ppv buys, sponsorship and quality of opposition. Alexander might net 33m but he probably earn 50m against Alvarez.

Aah right so he is guaranteed $33m, this makes me wonder whether he thinks about his legacy or he's just thinking about the $$$. Its a business fair enough and I would probably do the same, take low risk fights rather than the Canelo's and Martinez's. Imagine if Mayweather loses, I guarantee you he will retire, so this is a very risky ploy form Showtime unless theirs a clause that states Mayweather must complete all 6 fights.

Re: **RUMOUR** Mayweather PPV under 1m
I'm not sure if I'm correct, but for every fight he gets a guarenteed $32mil base purse. The rest of his purse is reflected by how many PPV's are sold and he takes a substantial cut from that
I'd imagine that Showtime will reject an opponent if they don't think it'll sell well Mayweather could fight guys with more losses than wins if he wanted to and get easy(easier) money

Re: **RUMOUR** Mayweather PPV under 1m
It will be interesting to see how the deal pans out for Mayweather and what he does with it. 200m is a massive guarantee so it essentially secures Mayweather all the money he needs. Its further de-incentives the need to really take on the best available opponent. Whats an extra 15 million for fighting Alvarez against 200 million already in the bank? I would imagine the deal gives Showtime some measure of say in his opponent selection but at the same time, I dont know if Mayweather would jump ship across if he still wasnt pretty much in control of his own career. For a guy who has fought less than once a year since 2007 to suddenly agree to a 6 fight deal at his age is surprising. But then again, it must be hard to turn down 200m.

Re: **RUMOUR** Mayweather PPV under 1m
It may be over a million, but these guys have been very vague with the actual numbers. Taking into consideration that the free doccies didnt do all too well, as well as the fact that it cost only $20 in cinemas. I have a strong suspicion the figure will be "Well over a million" without ever getting an actual number.

Re: **RUMOUR** Mayweather PPV under 1m
1 million + at 59.99 and 69.99 (for HD), that's crazy. Mayweather doesn't deliver a product worth 70 bucks to watch at home. 10million in the vegas gate. If its 70bucks to watch at home, how much would the cheapest tickets be??
I think there could be pressure from showtime to up the marketability of the next fights opposition. They are going to want 1.5million in the next. They had predicted cotto levels of buys for this fight. They forgot that Cotto is the 3rd biggest ppv draw currently in boxing.

Cotto has been in so many great scraps, he rarely fail to deliver. I look forward to a Cotto or Manny fight more than one of Floyd's one sided masterclasses.

Manny is the "paper view" prototype. Exciting fights, big knock outs. Thats what makes the average guy shell out. Floyd has done an amazing marketing job. Fighting on Mexican holidays, against Latino opposition.
