Best excuses post-defeat? Empty Best excuses post-defeat?

Fighting is odd sport, youre entire livelihood relies less on how good you are (Rigo) and more on how you can consistently bring the people back to watch you fight (my boy Chisora). As such when one loses, it is imperative that you lost because of reasons other than "I'm just not good enough"

David Haye's toe injury excuse was pretty funny, but of course, if his toe really was injured it makes movement very tough, so I give him a pass, of sorts. Manny's mother blaming his run of defeats on his conversion from Catholic to Christian was funny, if only because she was dead serious & furious at the time.

. “That’s what he gets for
changing religion,” she said after her son was
knocked down by Juan Manuel Marquez in the US
on Sunday (Manila time).

“Since the Protestant pastors came into his life, he
has not focused on his boxing,” Mommy D said.
“They always pray, with Manny losing sleep.”

Some suggested God made him get Knocked out because he was reckless with his money and needed reminding that this isnt forever:
“It’s painful to see him sprawled on the canvas
face down. But I guess, it’s God’s will. God wants to
remind him to be frugal in spending his money,”
Clapis said.

As a Protestant myself (though I have an incredibly limited knowledge of scripture) I found this quite amusing. Any other well-thought out reasons for why a fighter lost other than "I wuz robbed!"?

Cant quote atm but Juanma Lopez's excuse that he was stopped in the 2nd Salido fight only be because the ref was a gambler was pretty cringeworthy as he was battered from pillar to post by Salido

Manny seems to have his excuse ready even before he steps in the ring.

I think it was the Mosely fight and HBO where telling us how Manny was involved in a car accident on the way to the arena. Then we have the time he had the cold, live feed of him on a treadmill because his legs had cramp.

Whats worse is his hardcore supports eat this BS and use it as a reason to slate his opponent if he does well.

One that springs to mind was Scott Gilfoid's (on Boxingnews24.com) excuse on why Froch should have lost to Bute, he was going nuts over the fact that Hearn entered the ring when Bute was given a standing 8 count and said Froch should never have won this fight Laugh

I refer you to the Good Book according to Henry Cooper, where the litany of excuses for losses puts every other fighter in the shade. I particularly like the treatment of his pulverising KO loss to Johansson, where the crafty Swede had apparently manoeuvred poor 'Enry into a position where the sun was in Cooper's eyes and, somewhat unsportingly, took advantage of the fact by throwing a right hand that our hero never saw.

wonder if david haye has seen this, Jones had a legitimate toe injury and still stopped his man.

The funniest one for me is Mike Tyson "My back is Broken" To this day I still find it hilarious, not jus what he said but the expression on his face as he says it lol.

I seem to recall the newspapers reporting that Wlad was suspicious of being poisoned prior to the Brewster fight.

Haye is still the worst one for me however. Was a big fan of Haye until the daft toe excuse.

That is rough that toe video.

There is just a perfect pause after I broke my back, before the interviewer speaks again, gets me every time.

I think the correct excuse for Audley was that "he lost his mojo". When ever he won, he seemed to have gained it again.

He said he broke his little toe 3 weeks before the fight and he was having injections to stop the pain.

His broken toe had no effect whatsoever.

Indeed captain, that is my personal favourite too. Not averse to blaming his claret-spilling skin or the ref (and not speaking to them for 30 years) either. Never quite got how he had this reputation for modesty.
