Well done to Pontypridd RFC
First topic message reminder :
Welsh Double Champions
Absolutely hammered Llanelli 'B' tonight to win the title
Bet the WRU are gutted their team lost
Yet another moral victory for an area of Wales that the WRU are pretending doesn’t exist

Re: Well done to Pontypridd RFC
It would seem from the Ponty squad that regional rugby and it's processes are full ingrained in the everyday running of Pontypridd RFC. Every success that you talk about, Steffan, has regional rugby right at it's core. In fact, by the looks of it you wouldn't have done much without the Blues involvement in terms of academy players. I counted 14 Blues players in there (with an asterisk next to their name). Pontypridd is involved in regional rugby, and benefits directly from it, whether you like it or not.

I thought that all the teams in the B&I cup were being entered more or less as Regional A teams, borrowing players from other feeder teams in the region to ensure they have the best shot at winning.

Re: Well done to Pontypridd RFC
I'd like to point out Steffan, that if you're nephew and his team mates do become good enough that the Blues have two U 16's teams. The U16's North covers the Valleys and the parts of Powys that come under the region. The Blues U-18's is made up of the best players from both U-16's teams. I'm sure that the Blues also help to fund the Coleg Morgannwg rugby program as well. If the players from the Valleys are good enough they're not ignored, they've got the same chance as the other kids coming up in Wales.
Also, could people stop baiting the Ponty fan's by saying that they're a Blues A team. It's boring. . . Can't we just get along.

Let's be realistic and honest for a moment even though after 10 years the regional matter still proves to be a pain in the backside.ScarletSpiderman wrote:Likewise, those who constantly snipe about how the regions are nothing other than glorified town/city clubs, when the regions are actually being supported by the people of their region, are no better than those who claim that Elvis is alive because they read it in the Daily Sport, or claim that the shadows are wrong on the moon landing, or that things were better back when they were kids. These people are so into their little closed minded rants that they can't see that the rest of the world has moved on and left them behind moaning about it. If the regions were scrapped and rebuilt from new, that would not fix the problems we have. There would still be lack of supporters etc. All it would do would be setting us back ten years, and we would have to listen to the same arguements over and over again.Steffan wrote:And in my point of view people who say 'The setup is wrong but we have to accept it' are the kinda people who moan about the Tories but then dont bother to vote in the election or moan about the state of the roads but never actually write to the council. Its just just laying down to a system that is totally wrong and the future of Welsh rugby deserves so much better than what the current four superclubs are offering
Truth be told the regions should have been West, North, South and East. West being the three counties that made up Dyfyd, oh hang on the Scarlets, that non-existant region you slate all the time. The South would be the Ospreys, the East would be the Blues&Dragons and the North would be RGC 1404. That wouldn't please the Valleys fans, as they deserve a region of their own, and it wouldn't please the Dragons/Blues fans as they would have to be forced together, leading to the same amount of moaning we have to put up with still.
The facts are;
Pontypridd RFC compete against Cardiff RFC in the prem.
Cardiff RFC own and run Cardiff Blues.
Therefore to your ordinary passionate Ponty fan the aforementioned Cardiff sides are the same animal so how can Ponty fans be expected to support one Cardiff side and not the other? Doesn't make sense. The regional set up was an omnishambles from the start.
Truth be told it should have been 4 clubs from the very beginning and not pretend regions.

Re: Well done to Pontypridd RFC
Dave, the thing is regionalism seems to be working pretty well in three out of the four regions. It appears the major stumbling block for regionalism is the Cardiff/Ponty issue. I can't see how telling the majority, who are embrasing regionalism to ditch it and start again, just because Cardiff and Ponty are bickering non stop.Cardiff Dave wrote:Let's be realistic and honest for a moment even though after 10 years the regional matter still proves to be a pain in the backside.ScarletSpiderman wrote:Likewise, those who constantly snipe about how the regions are nothing other than glorified town/city clubs, when the regions are actually being supported by the people of their region, are no better than those who claim that Elvis is alive because they read it in the Daily Sport, or claim that the shadows are wrong on the moon landing, or that things were better back when they were kids. True dat.
Cardiff Blues should probably drop the Kardiff Koloured Kit and their fans should stop chaning 'Keeeeeerdifff' at their matches (not that they currently have much to sing about )

Seems to working out in a similar way down Cardiff too, but what i'm saying is, don't expect Ponty fans to support Cardiff Blues.
Let's remember in 2002 the Cardiff and Ponty sides were huge rivals. Then 2003 came along and the sham Ponty/Bridgend Worriers were the rivals. They were culled and all of a sudden the WRU said that Ponty fans should now support the stand alone Cardiff side. I mean come on.

Re: Well done to Pontypridd RFC
Nobody expects anyone from Pontypridd to 'be a Blue.' There's certainly no need for all the vitriolic whinging against Cardiff Blues from Ponty though. It's not the fault of the Blues or their fans that Pontypridd was culled, that was more of a logistical and financial issue... I don't think we'll ever see a top flight team in Pontypridd for those reasons. Well, not soon anyway. Also the Ponty should be doing their utmost to bring through professional players IE, players from the Blues North academy, Where's the support for these guys?

Re: Well done to Pontypridd RFC
There is no need for the ponty faithfull to support the Blues, but they need to up their game if they want to be the needle in the side of the WRU.
What they have done is show the WP for what it is, a rotten joke. With no money but an appetite to actually win games and sign players who are the best options in their positions you can dominate the league and humiliate the powers that be.

Re: Well done to Pontypridd RFC
So how are Swansea and Neath really any different? They used to bash ten bells out of each other, and then merged. You don't hear Neath fans moaning that there are no games played at the Gnoll and how they should have their own region because the jacks have robbed them of their region.Cardiff Dave wrote:Let's remember in 2002 the Cardiff and Ponty sides were huge rivals.
