Brits being overmatched Stateside - It's gotta stop !!
First topic message reminder :
Imagine If you're an American fan and the first two British fighters you'd seen headlining a show in the States were Messrs Rees and Purdy...Heaven knows what you would be thinking....Chuck in the Fury debacle and you'd be thinking WTF...
Two fighters that took a dreadful hiding and begged for more........
Purdy and Rees will have learned nothing from their pastings and in Purdy's case I expect he'll be there for the taking over here after his Lockett style pasting.....
Now these are good boys with plenty of heart who were going into the dragon's den and were patently unready for the challenge that awaited them......
I'm just grateful they are both okay.......But they really were a bad advertisement for British Boxing which is booming at the moment.......
Let's have guys like this staying where they belong at domestic level in Britain and send the quality to pick up titles in America.........
Groves, Froch, Burns, Brook's... khan's.........those that belong at the LEVEL...
No one wants to see average fighters get slapped about...It gives my brothers the wrong idea about British boxing.....

Sorry that's bull...........
Any half decent fighter gets a shot.......which makes you wonder why he didn't hang around...wait till he was at his best fighting condition and fight someone who'd give him a better chance..
Totally agree. Kell Brook would have been a better option at home and with better notice.

I think given that Purdy was willing to take the fight at such short notice , leads me to believe he didn't think he would get another chance at a world title, he must know he is not world level.
I on the other hand , believe he should have got the Carson jones fight in uk, a fight I believe he could win, and have a better showing the kell brook did in the original fight, this would set him in a good position, maybe then make us debut against possibly Kendall holt, if he managed to win that in the mean time kell should possibly be world champ then he gets his big uk world title shot.
It asks a lot but I would of waited....

With all due respect Lee Purdy is one of the most limited fighters to box for a 'World' title in my opinion. If you had told me that he would box for one after he was soundly beaten by a shopworn Colin Lynes a few years ago I would have laughed at you. I understand it was late notice and maybe crashing to make the weight didn't help, but the result was never in any doubt for me. He's done exceptionally to have gotten to where he has with no amateur experience, but that's more to do with decent matchmaking than anything else. A half decent counterpuncher that can move a bit will give him nightmares.

My view too goldenbhoy. It's not like its a hot young prospect we're talking about. I expected him to be outclassed but was genuinely shocked by how poor he was.
Regardless of what any rankings say, here was a guy offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to make some big bucks, with a Carlos maussa chance of glory. He had to take it. Would have been nice if he'd tried to throw a few punches but it didn't look like anyone had taught him how to do it.

I don't see the point of this thread other than to have a go at the Brits by good ol' Truss.
Some are good & some are bad. Truss is just focussing on the bad. For every Adrian Stone there's a Joe Calzaghe.

I really am out of touch with boxing these days.
Anyway, back to the OP....
Adam's summation is correct...You travel for a beating to secure your kids future/put bread on the table. High risk/High reward. What a bunch of foreign strangers think is irrelevant.
Traveling Brits generally go out on their shield. Even if they're outclassed, their spirit is respected.

You twist.
If you go to the States for a one off beating (payday) then what 'they' think is irrelevant. Conversely, if you go to the states to raise your profile and secure future earnings then there's nothing more important that what "a bunch of strange foreigners think'.
