Bad Moves
I've often been bewildered at some club moves some players have made that has seen their stock disappear along with their perceived talent - Whilst I'm sure money has played a significant part in most moves what are your most frustrating or bewildering player moves. For me Dwayne Peel moving to Sale ensured that he disappeared into the abyss and i'm not convinced Gethin Jenkins' move has done much for him, although The Blues were not exactly ripping trees up. Be interested in your own thoughts here on some other players.

Re: Bad Moves
Peels move was a terrible one. Such a shame as I think he was Wales' best player when they won the six nationsthat time.

Re: Bad Moves
Loads mate....
Grays move to Sale was a seriously bizarre effort.
For me though its some of the younger lads...moving to quick. And i know i sound like i have a chip on my shoulder about it...but hey....i do!
Alex Gray should never have left the Falcons so soon for London Irish...for example. A very good prospect has just dissapeared off the planet...infact hasnt he just signed for the England 7's team.

Re: Bad Moves
not sure why everyone thinks Sale was such a bad move for Grey?
He stayed close enough to have a home life, he signed a considerably larger contract than he was on, Scotland had their best 6N's in ages and he made a lions tour...
I hope my season is as miserable as his next season!!!

Re: Bad Moves
A lot of players with big reputations sometimes struggle to assert themselves in other clubs... Why is this?
They may not agree with the setup, the coach, their fellow players or their talent could itself be exaggerated.... Look at chris jack for instance. An all black albeit in their historically weakest position. Went to Saracens with a big reputation and a big salary... But was he gash, he made Steve borthwick look world class. He then came to WP and he was shocking here too.
Perhaps he didn't have the inspiration he had when in NZ.
If you take a job or make a decision for the wrong reasons it always comes back to bite you.

Toulon scrum dominated by Youngs and Cole. Youngs and Cole dominated by Hibbard and Jenkins. Go figure.

Re: Bad Moves
Paul Doran Jones moving from a starting berth at Glouces to Northampton where he warmed the bench for most of his time.
Geraghty and Lamb both failed to impose themselves at Saints.
Jamie George not leaving sarries

Re: Bad Moves
No sympathy for Peel but he's been in the shadow of Phillips anyway and we have plenty of quality young 9's. Even Tipuric is a better 9 than Peel.

Sale are a basement team while the team he left Glasgow were in the Rabo play offs playing really really good rugby. Best rugby I have ever seen them play. Sale by contrast are shocking. The move to Sale certainly didnt help his Lions prospects.
Scotland did have a good 6N but Grey didnt really.

Wilkinson was wrong to make Newcastle his first ever club? I would love some explanation of that. Staying quite as long as he did may not have been wise, but he was happy.
Hayman got exactly what he wanted at Newcastle, money and surfing. His reputation bloomed (as it often does for unavailable players). His next move to Toulon, instead of back to NZ was perhaps more faulty. He got money but not a World Cup.
Carter got a very well paid holiday in the south of France, sounds like an excellent move to me.

Heyman, Newcastle, Surfing?!? WTF. Can you surf at Newcastle?
If thats what he wanted he should have gone to Ulster, Munster or Biarritz. They have some of the best surf spots in Europe.
Carter got injured after a month or so. The trip was good for money but a non starter in terms of any kinda rugby experience.
Wilko should have moved on much sooner like you say. He was clearly in a rut at Newcastle.

The strangest move of all has to be Barclay joining the Scarlets from Glasgow. I'm still shocked by it.
