Im going for all the wrong reasons though

I went to my second uni cos I wanted to chase a girl and I didnt like having a job. Best decision ive ever made. Didnt get the bird nor have I got a degree worthy of a good job, but I had a ridiculously good time! Above all else I never had to work during the football, stayed up for every minute of the Ashes down under with no responsibilities to worry about missing and drank myself into such a state that I can no longer run for more than 30 seconds without stopping. Good times!

Seems "Comedy Ollie" couldn't handle 90 minutes of banter from behind the dugout. Complained to the club and got the fan, who until this was chairman of the supporters alliance, banned for four games. Despite it being common knowledge no foul language was used and it was 100% football related "abuse".

What a muppet. Still in pre-season and Ollie feeling the pressure, God knows what he'll be like when the season's underway!

As a club we were almost out of the football league a couple of years ago. Holloway, dougie and our exeptional owners have done so well to get us in the PL- but its becoming a posioned challis..

How can we get players trying to run a legimate club that breaks even minimum for the long term.. Its so hard at this level . and yes we are offering ok money for players and they are going elsewhere..

Break even? Didn't Palace recently win a "£90m match" at Wembley? Cardiff are doing what Palace should be doing. Using the fact you're a Premier League side to sign the best of the Championship and be in a stronger position if you go back down. Reading did something similar in January this year which is why I fancy them to win promotion this season.

If Palace sign good youth players from Championship and mould their squad, invest the PL money wisely and take it as a given they'll go down, they'll be so much better long term.

you get approx 60 m more in FUTURE tv revenue.

but you have to start paying everyone more money, you have to be able to strengthen your squad.

if you go down you end up up 15 m a year for 4 years in parachute payments to ease the financial burden of losing out on the 60 m revenue from sky deals..

It really isnt as simple as just getting 90 milion quid..

If I was you I would concentreate on why that jealous idiot that is supposed to be an asset to your club was winding up a respected manager all game long!

Marky's right tho. Look at what we did when we came up. We signed young hungry players from the lower leagues, for not very much, knowing that if it didn't work out we'd have a great squad to come back down to the Championship with. Fortunately for us we stayed up comfortably

so you think palace will comfortbaly stay up by signing young hungry players from the lower league.

Its all about having an eye on going down- but we need a better squad than we had last season. we havent got one yet and we wont get one by signing lower league players..

We have massive gaps- that you didnt. We won this thing for one reason and one reason only- Zaha! he is gone. He is worth 4 good champ players in my mind..

You won't comfortably stay up signing them, I never said that. But it would help, rather than signing old has-beens like Jerome Thomas and reportably Carlton Cole. Sign young hungry players, who want a shot at the big time. That'd be the way I would always go coming up

Palace have young hungry players allready olly- What sort of message would it be to sign players of the same ilk elsewhere!! that is crazy! and is a massive kick in the teeth- especially when palace has a decent academy!

No we need to find players to fill the gaps that we have with some experience anx wisdom to have that mix between wisdom and youth. We have allready signed gayle and a spainsh lad anyway!!

I make Olly right, its smarter business. Get a couple of old heads in too, but its smarter to sign the best players from the Champ who will maybe kick on wonderfully with the step up and keep you up, kick on and have a good sell on value should you go down or they stay with you and your squad is much improved when you go down.

we are trying to sign a watford player- but we cant tap all there udinese players up!! they are playing a different game.. Cardiff and Hull are up!!

There's loads of gems out there Mysti if you look hard enough.

I mean look at young Westwood for Villa last year, came from League 1. Pilkington came from League 1 for us. Snodgrass last year.

I don't know who these players are. I'm not a football scout. But they are out there (Bridcutt would be one off the top of me head, although that would be very doubtful to happen, as much as I would like it too to see Nick's reaction )

Well, there are numerous players who performed last year. Players like Austin, Brayford, Trippier, Ince, Eagles, Bridcutt etc etc.

probally tried for some of the others as well mate. we just cant sign them- to get those players it seems like you need to bid 8 m plus!! thats how crazy it is

Well not really. We got Redmond for 2m + add ons. Brayford went to Cardiff for reported 1.5m.

Pilkington, Westwood, Bennett etc barely cost more than 4-5m between them.

yes really . blackpool came back to us and said we need to pay them 14m for ince and phillips!!

we paid 4.5 m for gayle!!

that is the prices we are being asked to pay.

How are loan players going to help us in the long term.. I am more bothered about buying players.. If we stay up and they do well they will just go back to there clubs, if we go down we wont be able to afford there wages so we will have a worse squad and wont have boosted anything!

Palace have made a good long term signing in Gayle. But looking at there squad ATM, i wouldn't even class it as good as Reading, Wigan, Watford, QPR and a few other Championship sides tbh.

If they want to stay up, they probably do need to splash a bit more cash. That said, if they do sign those 2 Chelsea lads on a season long loan, good business, Chalobah is a class player.

Signing loan players is a good idea I think, you can't be looking at the long-term just yet, establish yourself in the Premier League then look to the long-term, signing some promising youngsters on loan is a great idea as it will involve either only a small fee or no fee at all, might not even have to pay all their wages and they will be desperate to get themselves into contention at their parent club.

Chalobah and Piazon, even for one year is a better signing than Jerome Thomas for 5.

Chalobah was superb last season for Watford, 100% good enough for Prem and he will fit in well at Palace tbf.

Palace won't be signing Chalobah AND Piazon, will be one or the other, you can only sign 1 player on loan from another Premier League team.

It's not all about money. Albion have hardly spent any cash since we came back up and have finished 11th, 10th, 8th. Plenty of free transfers, loans and cheap foreign gems out there. He's a knob but you could do a lot worse than going for Odemwingie, proven PL quality and we'd sell for around 3 million. Far better value than say Matt Phillips at 6 million.

Offcourse we are going to loan- We dont have another option. We cant not loan. But its much better to buy if we can- because loan players do absoloutly nothing for yo yo teams.. Its a quick fix only..

Palace are the type of team that has to look at the long term. They cant not. Its insane not to.  You have to understand that if we go down next season(a big probalilty) - we  have to try and make certain we have a better squad than we had in 2012-2013 season.. Because the goal has to try and automatically qualify in 2014-2015.. we will be in a position were we have an extra 15 million that year over other clubs(bar the other 2 relegated clubs) and we have to make that work. Loan players arnt yours - there is never a garantee you will get them back the next season.. You have to be prudent and realsie if you are loaning you need back up that with your own..

Its all about getting to that level where you dont loan anymore. Say we loan a couple of stars, they do well and keep us up. What do we do next year- loan two different ones.. it has to end somewhere.. As a club you have to make your balance sheet look better. You have to have assets on your books, You need to use your working capital. Or there is no point in having it!

I would much rather buy ince for 8 million.

However that being said we must loan. But loan in the positions where we have young talent coming through the ranks so they can step up when the loan players leave.. Buy in the places we have no talent for, because if the sh!t hits the fan- we need a team with no gaps..

On a slightly unrelated note . A chinese billionaire is looking into rebuilding the Crystal palace 'Palace'..

He has allready had talks with Bromley council. This could be good news for the area if it comes off and the knock on affect for the club- especially considering the tube line is coming down as well. It will rival the o2 I would have thought!!

Piazon has gone to Vitesse Arnhem. So it could well be Chalobah who is on his way to you... Would love to see him getting premier league experience as a Chelsea fan.

another new signing, fellow frenchman Marange who plays leftback was also left out of the 25 man squad. just out of curiosity, is that a common practice in the EPL for teams to sign too many players and drop a few of them once the season start? first time I hear about it anyway.

Not really, most get there squad to about 25 players, maybe one or two will miss out at most

cheers olly, but what's the point of signing too many players to start with? injury cover?

It's pretty unusual for a new summer signing to miss out on the squad whocares it must be said.
