Sam Warburton!!!
First topic message reminder :
Just bean reading that Sam Warburton might not be fit enough for the first game in Hong Kong.
What with Gethin Jenkins ALSO IN DOUBT, it is not looking too good for the Lions right now.
Are these injuries due to the training that they are doing? Or are some players carrying injuries from their club games?
If Sam Warburton is not fit Paul O'connell will take the captains arm band.
Lets hope their are no more injuries, at least before the first test.
discuss.

Re: Sam Warburton!!!
Persistently pedantic or just plain correct?
Of course I want all our players fit but Sam has a history of knee injuries & until it fully clears up - it is not clear.
Read this & it explains things as I intended.

He was initially diagnosed to be out for about a week, meaning he would miss the baa baa's game, and likely to miss the force game due to not training for a few days and travel etc...
That said Gatland has said every player will get a chance in the first 3 games, and that he will treat the first 3 as a chance to view every player, so as long as Warburton features in game 3 (which is what he is probably being rested for) then whats the problem.
If Warburton doesn't feature in the first 3 games come back and have a discussion, because thats when there will be a discussion worth having, until the lets just put the tour into perspective, this time last tour we had lost 1 player through suspension, 3 through injury and the selected wing stayed home for a week longer to recover from injury

TBH Maes I was expecting to read that the reason Warbs was injured was because of the Muslim influx into the UK, and the threat of Sharia law in Rhwbina

Re: Sam Warburton!!!
I'll be honest, I thought MCL injuries weren't too bad, so the papers are maybe going overboard on this. If it was an ACL problem, then I'd understand the fuss. Picking up on Gatland's use of the word hopefully is needless, as how can he be expected to diagnose the injury and how it will react for definite? It's also pretty positive that it appears he doesn't have any support or whatever on his knee.
I don't see it as a big deal if Warburton doesn't play until the Reds game. Martin Johnson didn't play till the same game twelve years ago (though I don't think it was to do with injury) and it didn't do him any harm.

I guess when you get to the stage that you are unwilling to accept that you were wrong you turn to ridicule.

I hope he will be fit & gets a chance. Looking at the quality & form of Hooper for the 'Tahs at the moment the Lions back row will need a back row fit and in form!

Except we are talking about a player who has struggled with various minor injuries for almost two years. From memory he missed 2 of the 2012 6Ns matches and was replaced early in a couple of others, and missed one of this years tournament.
That we have as flankers in the squad:
2 currently injured, one being the captain who has a history of problems
2 just returned from long term injuries
1 really fit player
That leaves me worried.

Re: Sam Warburton!!!
Is there a player on tour without an injury history?
Croft had a broken neck last year, Sean O Brien hasn't played for a month, Gray is about to play his first game since march.
Every player has had time out. To signal out Warburton is silly.
He played all but one game in the RWC and warm ups and missing the game was not due injury more bad luck.

Re: Sam Warburton!!!
Read what I say MM.
I am worried that 4 of our 5 flankers have recent injury issues. Really worried. That Warburton is now injured is the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.
What especially worries me about Warburton's injury is that we have heard this before about him. It is a minor knock that will be OK. Then he comes back and lasts 40 minutes before going again. But I am equally worried about the other 3.
Not sure what BigTrev said to annoy you, but once annoyed you do tend to get majorly defensive and at times rather rude to people.

Re: Sam Warburton!!!
Warburton is needed by the lions.... at his best he's a top quality openside and tours suffer if the captain is out.... one thing people should take into consideration when we look at 05. When you lose that leadership gulf as well as the player itself its an almighty blow to the squad.
I'd rather he miss 2 games then come back too early. Benefits Tipuric though. Can he play well enough to force Gatland's hand????

I agree, similar can be said of a number of vital players, POC, BOD, Phillips, Sexton...!
As long as they are at their best for the tests we will do well.

Depends on the injury, grade 1 (strain) is not too bad at all, grade 3 (rupture) requires surgery and is usually 2-3 months out

LT - I agree with you on the injuries - there are a lot of people coming back from fairly long term injuries and I hope that it does not come back to bite us
As a Scotsman, I was actually surprised Gray was selected for that reason
Warburton is also a worry, as he has been on and off the injury list for a while now
Fingers crossed for them all

I would guess they would have an idea of the severity though. I'm sure the quacks won't allow Gatland to offer 5 days rest if it is a rupture. It does seem like a minor one thus far aye?
