Be quicker to fly to East Midlands and get the bus to Leicester station LT. Be cheaper than getting a bloody train from London to Leicester as well I bet.

No real surprises there. Tait coming into the Saxons was expected. His form at the end of last season was very good and his ability to cover the majority of the backline is a useful option. Bad luck for Slater, if he'd toured in the summer his form would have put him in contention for the spot Attwood has claimed.

Tait will be playing for England next season. Of that I have little doubt.

I was hoping we'd have another season of Tait to ourselves. If he's going to be away with England then we need another fullback for the squad. I don't have much faith in Hamilton covering and that only leaves Morris who is a much better winger than 15.

What are Leicester people called? I say Leicestrians. Doc on another thread called us Leicesterites?
But I can't quickly find a definitive answer on t'web.
There's a site which included suggestions Asians, Leicesterites, Muslims... http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081005074735AAvPsLp

Tomorrow apparently London Irish are announcing a new signing and some trialists, and I've heard a rumour today that the signing is Anthony Allen. It's not from a source where I can judge it's validity, and I have to say I am sceptical. Have you guys heard anything?

I've haven't heard anything along those lines. Will be interesting to hear what happens.
I think it would be a strange move on AA part unless he's been given a nudge by the Leicester management - but I can't see that happening as he played alot of games last season.

He's got a year left on his contract and is rehabbing from knee surgery. I'd be amazed if It's Anthony Allen. Tigers are not well stocked at 12 with only Bowden and academy players other than Allen so we'd need to replace him. If he was off it would have been sorted sooner I would have thought.
Will be a real blow for us if he goes and an odd career move for Allen.

Yeah, I'd be amazed, and having found out a bit more about the person who told me, I would say there is 0% chance of it being true.

Not sure Allen would have fit the Smith mold of an IC anyway Ozzy. Generally he likes them big at IC and quick with footwork at OC. With Sa and Armitage in the midfield you should have a decent combo.

Re: Leicester Tigers - 2013/14 Thread
I'd be extremely surprised, and worried, of those rumours about Allen turned out to be true. He's been such a consistently strong performer for us in all competition and his partnership with Manu can be brilliant at times. He deserved more than a Saxons place IMO given how strong his game now is with his defence massively improved and his line-breaking ability as good (if not better) than any of our other IC.
Also with Ryan Lamb heading over from Northampton I'd expect him to be relishing the chance to link up with the stand-off he started out playing with at Gloucester.
What are the injury status' with guys like Ayerza does anyone know? Just trying to picture what our starting line-up will be early season with injuries and Lions rested etc.
1.Schuster 2.Hawkins 3.Mulipola 4.Slater 5.Kitchener 6.Gibson 7.Salvi 8.Crane
9.Harrison 10.Flood 11.Goneva 12.Allen 13.Smith 14.Morris 15.Tait
It's going to be interesting to see how the pecking order develops in a few positions (especially wing) as the season progresses given the depth there is in places (albeit a lack of depth in others).

Allen is good but is no where near Test class. Very good club player who's probably been the most consistent 12 in the Jeff for the past few seasons.

Good. I wish sometimes that we had a full team of Allens. Trouble is that England tends to treat Welford Rd as a one stop shop when looking for candidates to fill vacancies/injury gaps and it begins to play havoc with the seasonal plans.yappysnap wrote:Allen is good but is no where near Test class. To be fair you bring it on yourselves. Most of the time it's the Tigers ascosiation more then form which gets the player picked anyway. And the fact that Cockers will winge if players aren't picked, and when they are as well (go figure that out!).Portnoy's Complaint wrote:Good. I wish sometimes that we had a full team of Allens. To be honest i don't think Cockers winging has any effect on the England selectors, just rugby fans in general.yappysnap wrote:To be fair you bring it on yourselves. Cockers moans if they are picked.
Ayerza is away playing for Argentina. Allen, Deacon, Slater and Tait are recovering from summer surgery but should be good to go in this preseason. The rest of the team are ok, allegedly.
The Lions lads are back in training and could feature fairly early on.

A question for Tigers fans, I'm pretty clueless as to the area around Welford road, in truth I have never been to Leicester.
However I am going to be on a course for 4 weeks down in Sheffield and the Tigers opener against Worcestor looks like a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Is there decent parking at the stadium? How much does it cost and how much are tickets for the game.
Finally this is the opening game of the Aviva, is it likely to be a sellout?

The ground is right in the centre of the city. The train station is a five minute walk or you could catch the park and ride from Birstall and have a 15 minute walk. Leicester is a bit of a sod to drive through, particularly for people who have not been here before.
There are normally some tickets available albeit not necessarily great positions. Hop on the clubs website and have a look. They have an online system which will tell you which sections have tickets available and you can order on there or give the helpful ticket office a call.

It is possible to book parking at the King Power stadium via tigers website for matchdays. There is also generally "matchday parking" sites at a £5 each just a couple of minutes from the ground. Alternatively the fans often park on in a long line on Saffron Lane. The walk down from the station is quite enjoyable.RuggerRadge2611 wrote:A question for Tigers fans, I'm pretty clueless as to the area around Welford road, in truth I have never been to Leicester.

the match will not be a sell-out. tickets will cost from £18-£35. The terrace would give the best atmosphere - but sells out quick.

What he means is go to the biggest dedicated club rugby ground in England in the culturally diverse city of Leicester and free your mind from the all that glitters is gold mentality of the capital.
The terrace will get you close to the action (if you're early enough) but you'll get good views in the CAT stand where there's also a Domino's pizza outlet.

Domino's pizzas are on a flat bread.
But to be fair, Radge is coming down from Scotland so probably he'd feel as though it is indeed fine dining and Sam should be applauded for a thoughtful recommendation with careful and appropriate consideration of cultural diversity.

Every lad on the academy team has tried Ollie's famous sausage and look how they turned out! He's even got dead posh and gives it out to the bride and groom at weddings now, they love it too! Nout wrong with it...
Oh and Radge all that tells me is that you haven't drunk enough before hand. Domino's pizza sober is like going out to a club in day light. A horrible experience that'll tarnish your memory for ever..

Ok only me who likes a couple of pints of bitter and a pizza whilst watching the rugby then. There's the regular options plus a curry outlet as well. No dodgey 20 stone lock forcing sausage on you here (less said of Quins academy hazing the better).
Plus you don't have the horrors of travelling in London.

I see that Tommy Bowe's probably out for the first HEC game. Sad news for Ulster fans.

As we're short Cockers and Ayerza I'd say we are looking worse off at this point. Of course I'm sure out Autumn injury jinks will rip through the squad soon enough.

Leaving Kohns sausage alone for one second, I honestly don't think I've ever wanted pizza at a game. I don't think its available anyway, mainly just pie and burgers or hog roast.

We have curry at the ground, but it is poor quality and overpriced.
I now fancy a domino's though
For a posh lunch tehre is a nice little bistro I know.
Or a decent cheap chinese buffet.
Or go to a proper curry house.

Park at Loughborough station, train to the game is a fiver return. When you get back walk up the road (less than five mins) to the Red Veil and have a beautiful curry before heading off.

Drive down Welford road and turn at the Bricklayers Arms Pub and follow the sign for the multistorey carpark... but dont go in! Drive past it and there is a free carpark that no one seems to know about right next to it. We use it every matchday but get there early!! It very handy for the boozers too as the Bricklayers, The Pub (that is actually its name) and a few others are nearby. Its also an easy walk to the park where there will be some sort of Tigers themed goings on occuring.RuggerRadge2611 wrote:A question for Tigers fans, I'm pretty clueless as to the area around Welford road, in truth I have never been to Leicester.
Best athmosphere is in the Crumbie (sorry... Holland & Barrett) stand. Terrace is great but you have to stake your claim an hour before kickoff or you will end up in the corners.

The pub named The Pub do have a very tasty selection of ale. I'd recommend there for a pre game tipple.

Don't eat the pizza in the Holland and Barrett stand, Radge. It's organic lettuce and samphire on a bed of tofu served on a muesli crispbread.

Am I reading this right? Is Cat Stand to be redesignated as H&B North Stand or something?
Will the toxic dietary outlets be driven off to Nelson Mandella Park?
Maybe as the coalition's cuts bite, it will be an opportunity for HM Prisons to get a piece of the fast food action...
