Re: Liverpool Thread: Road to thinking we might get top 4, only to feel stupid at the end of the season
I hope you do leave Gerrard out, but I cant see it mattering. It would be a nice 10% boost for us, but Suarez and Sturridge are likely to be too good. Looks like relegation Roger will be playing, he wont handle Suarez.
Nice to go into a game not really worried. With a full squad and a better spirit at the club than currently I'd expect us to give you a game, but I fully predict at least 2 goals cushion.
I don't expect us to give you that room to run behind like Spurs foolishly have done to all teams this season.
I would imagine space will be tight, so Coutinho's ability to pick a gap could be vital. However, hes not so good that we won't be able to get on top of him, unlike Silva and Cazorla who always play very well at our place. I'd also suggest putting Sterling up against Diame on the wing. Diame can outfight him every day, but hes inconsistent and lazy and will just forget to play against him sometimes.

Yeah Gerrard might be able to change his game to make sure he doesn't pick up a booking, but then we don't have a 100% Gerrard playing, I still think Lucas should start he's a pretty decent replacement would rather have Gerrard against City.

For those unaware of this before Dortmunds Cup game vs Wolfsburg last night. They did this before the game. Classy

Is it really wrong for me to keep thinking about euro 96 and Gazza's goal v Scotland when i hear of the 96?
Respect to fans from all across Europe that paid tribute though. It wasn't just Dortmund.

Yeah it's pretty brutally ironic, Feel bad for Liverpool but as soon as Maureen parked the bus with his 5 at the back you knew it was going to end with a counter attack. Majorally peed had £2 on Torres scoring the 2nd and he ****ing passed it
That being said some great pictures going about on Twitter.

Torres was obviously terrified he'd miss and the abuse from the crowd.

So, 2 games, 2 wins, 2 clean sheets and score 15+ goals and that should win us the league.

It is kinda ironic that Liverpool need Everton to do them a huge favour.

After sending Moyes to Utd, I doubt Everton can do football a bigger favour.

I got that match wrong. Thought Liverpool would win by a couple. Credit to Jose, who put a brick wall in front of the goal, and hoped for a counter attacking goal. Gerrard will have nightmares about the slip, and I hope for his sanity, Liverpool still prevail.

Re: Liverpool Thread: Road to thinking we might get top 4, only to feel stupid at the end of the season
Hardly surprising Chelsea would adopt those tactics. Just galls me that the media insist on calling it a Mourinho Masterclass....again! He hasn't reinvented the wheel. Dogged defence, then hoof it up field and hope to snatch one on the counter. Arsenal did it to us last season. Still where Jose is concerned, people do seem blinded by him.
Disappointed that Gerrard lost his head a bit and tried blasting the ball in from 90000 yards at every opportunity in the second half. Can see why Rodgers threw Aspas on but not why he threw ASPAS on. At least he serves to demonstrate why we really do need to reinforce the squad in the Summer.
Probably a bit too much to hope that City lose or that we can knock a cheeky fifteen goals in during the next two matches but let's face it, the title of the thread shows what the Club's ambition was at the start of the season and, whatever happens and whatever anyone thinks, the season has been nothing but a massive success.
Two games left...we go again!

City have to go to Goodison. A draw there, and it's yours to lose.
Most of Liverpool's efforts came from outside or just inside the box, thanks to Chelsea's organised defense. I could only see you lot scoring from a corner, or a screamer.

Gutted with the result, we tried and tried, but just couldn't break them down. They defended superbly.
It's funny how people's opinions have changed on us after the defeat. From being told for weeks that we would win the league from neutrals (while most Liverpool fans have been cautious), we've now bottled it and Gerrard was awful.

Well your no longer in control of the title race and if Citeh get past Everton it's all over with their 2 home games. Gerrard's had a good season but yesterday he was very poor seemed more interested in shooting then anything else. Be interested to see if other sides try this now against you.

Sunderland tried it but we found a way through. Chelsea just had better players to make it work.

That's a fair point but i suspect Tony Pulis would be able to make that work.

He might, but with it being their last home game I'd hope they won't be happy sitting back. It should be a very interesting game either way.

Pulis is a gentleman- He will push the players till the end of the season.
BUt Citeh and toure got through us.
It really is about strength if you want to get through palace at the moment , that is why the only player i feared from Everton was barkley. And then it was toure for Citeh
But then if the front 3 S's of liverpool can pick themselves up and play a blinder they can get through any defence even if they arnt the biggest physical presences

to win the title you will need another 9-0 v palace.........
I just hate citeh and although i would be gutted to lose by that much I would rather see pulis go mad for a week and put out a youth team playing holloway football, and you then smash us so you win the league

It's too late Mysti. Citeh have West Ham on final day and they've packed up and gone home already so expect Citeh would put 3-5 past them easily.

So its all on Everton then ..

Chelsea, Liverpool, United and Arsenal have all dropped points at Goodison this season. It will be very hard for City but they will treat the game like a cup final.
Their last two games should be a canter. Then again, they nearly screwed up against QPR in 2012.

To be fair, Gerrard was poor mainly because he was trying to make amends for his mistake. If that was the Gerrard of five years ago, I think he would have done it as well, lost his head a bit and you could see the rest of the team felt for him, they were practically trying to set him up at every opportunity. Rodgers maybe should have a word with him and reminded him that his role in the team is different now, I think he would have been more effective trying to break Chelsea down from deep rather than him pushing to the edge of the box as well.

Manchester United fans above 20 might be able to tell you thats a tricky mindset against us, but that was a West Ham of a different era. Our effort, for a team not needing to win at all, was described as "obscene" by Ferguson

More squad depth, and quality in defence.
That's Rodgers' aim for the summer. Take some heart from how well Liverpool have done in the league this season and move on.
Quickly.

Re: Liverpool Thread: Road to thinking we might get top 4, only to feel stupid at the end of the season
I read this on another forum and it sums up my feelings perfectly.
Last night was just another loop on this emotional roller coaster we've been riding since Christmas. The penultimate match in the most exciting season in all my years of being a Liverpool fan sums up what an utterly mad season it's been. Everybody is down. Everybody is gutted. Yet we sit top of the league with a game to go. A league nobody including our own gave us a chance of winning 8 months ago. To be still in contention at this stage is testament to Brendan Rodgers and the ethos he's brought to the club. No side has scored over 90 goals and failed to win the league. That's going to happen this season no matter what the results are over the next 6 days. We've conceded more goals than Hull. Yes the defence at times has been more torpedo sized hole in the stern than leaky but to focus on a more defensively robust approach could've compromised what has been the most fluently attacking Liverpool side and maddest bunch of lads I've seen since the 80s and I was too young to appreciate it back then.
Yes I'm disappointed that we've apparently let a great chance of winning that elusive title crumble away at the final hurdle but yet I feel better than I imagined I would last night. Football is the biggest, slaggiest slut of all mistresses. It knows how to hurt you and kick you when you're down but that just makes you want it more. To win 14 games on the trot using what was essentially a 15 man squad was always going to be a phenomenally huge ask but boy am I proud to have witnessed what I've seen this year from my seat at Anfield. Social Media is full of the usual idiots ripping the players to pieces and looking to attach blame to whichever scapegoat they feel is to blame. Yes some of them aren't up to scratch but over the course of the season they've given it their all. We're on top of the Frak league with a game left and we're gutted! Astounding. With The right results we're a win away from being champions. We could've won 5-0 last night and we'd still have needed a favour from Villa or West Ham. Now we just need a bigger favour.
Do I think we'll win it? Probably not but then this season has been mental. Who knows. But I've never been prouder.

As I said earlier, they should go for the title. The did, but fell short when it mattered. Couldn't penetrate a defensive chelsea.
A good season though, with Champions league to look forward to. For all that's being said about them, they have done something quite sensational. They've climbed from 7th to 2nd!
