Six Nations winners post Lions?
On the 2009 Lions tour to SA we seen the Wales trio of Jenkins, Rees, Jones step up and take apart the Bokke scrum. This Lions front row went on to play for Wales for many years and help us achieve great heights such as winning championships in 2012 and 2013. When this current tour is over Wales will not only have a 'Lions front row' of Jenkins, Hibbard, Jones but possibly a 'Lions back row' as well; 6. Lydiate/Warburton, 7. Warburton/Tipuric, 8. Faletau.
So just how will teams in the 6 Nations deal with and actually beat Wales now that we have a Lions front and back row?

Roger - I think they'll target the 2nd row and Biggar

Now wait just a minute Ruby. Has it slipped your mind that Evans and AWJ are in the touring squad? We could yet see a Lions test 2nd row .

Not after Evans' performance the other day we won't plus Jenkins hasn't played yet and Heaslip had a better game than Toby

And this is the guy who complains about WUMS and wonders why people are keen to push the idea that some of the Welsh players are not quite as good as they are made out to be...

Em...call the Six Nations off? And then invite BT Vision in to tidy the competition up and ban Wales from playing in it?

Well done Saint , can't argue with the logic - your post does fill a much needed gap.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Lions both tests with a Wales front row?

It is really going to depend on who has the most injuries.
France normally win following the Lions, but they are as bad as I can ever remember at the moment - so Ireland and England will be in poll position if the Welsh Lions carry an injury hangover.

Re: Six Nations winners post Lions?
The idea of France taking advantage after the Lions year is one of the great rugby myths in my opinion.
You might as accurately say that France starts stoking her engines in the year after the Lions tour because she's not thinking of Lions fatigue at all but the WC the following year. France have done well in that competition for a NH side...we'd be foolish to think their post-Lions tour 6N wins have anything to do with us and simply much more to do with France having other things on its mind and preparing accordingly.
Seven or eight months is plenty time for Professional players and, more importantly, professional coaches to have a team ready to compete in the 6N. Lions fatigue/injuries is a tenuous excuse to latch underperformances to.

Not that Tenuous...!
If you subtracted five Lions from any home nations squad for a lengthy injury lay off it would have a massive effect on that teams fortunes. Scotland less so as they have a small representation.
Ireland without POC, Murray, Sexton, Best, Healy
England without Cole, Youngs, Corbisiero, Farrell, Tuilagi.

Re: Six Nations winners post Lions?
That can happen in any year maesteg. It doesn't have to be always after a Lions tour. Look at Ireland this year.
But I just believe it disrespects how strong France have been since the 6N began (5 wins and seldom out of the top three) to suggest they need a Lions tour to increase their chances. They win because of quality on display, like most 6N winners do.
Also, they don't exactly go to sleep themselves during the summers. They have three tough tests themselves coming up and they'll risk injuries (and more of them will be risking) in those games.

I think the winning team will depend on whether they get Steve Walsh as ref.

England v Wales game to decide first and second as previous years with wales coming out on top as usual but by less than 20 points.
Scotland for wooden spoon with italy, ireland and france battling for mid table respectability.
Plus ca change.

Re: Six Nations winners post Lions?
I remember that bok scrum getting torn apart in 09 (it was the away match to France when Ras Dumisani gave me 10 years worth of ammunition to my buddies here)... but it was certainly not the Lions who tore them apart.
They got parity in the 2nd test... thats it. 3rd test doesn't count given they rested near all their players (biltongs 7yr old son was on the bench).
From what I've seen of lydiate thus far he won't test, Croft and SOB look better bets and I also fancy Heaslip to grab the No8 jersey... we need leaders out there.
Wales has a good pack, not even close to being a bok pack though.

Just like in the RWC, SA won by 1 point and Hook's penalty not given by Barnes!

Re: Six Nations winners post Lions?
You have to give SA credit, they did have Ronald MacDonald at the helm... and they were still good enough for most.
How many times have I heard... if only if only. yawn. Winners don't complain about the ref this or missed penalty that.
If you had that sort of attitude I think you would have actually won some of last years games vs. AUS for instance.

Wales haven't played SA for ages, it's a pity because I think we have a decent chance against them - we can play a physical game, it the Aus last second tries that have screwed up.
