2013 Aegon Championships
First topic message reminder :
It's my third favourite tournament of the year!!! Headlining the bill is Sir Andrew of Murray who will be hoping to do better than last year which we will not speak of. Second seed is Berdych. The third seed is DelPo who is making a long-awaited appearance at Queen's Club and the number 4 seed is grass court extraordinaire Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Amongst the other seeds are previous champions Sam Querrey and Marin Cilic and Federer-wannabe Grigor Dimitrov. Also, keep an eye on 12th seed Lukas Rosol as he has potential.
ualifying is currently underway with Feliciano "Deliciano" Lopez as the top seed. There are also a plethora of Brits in action including ex-British-number-2 Alex Bogdanovic.
The main draw isn't out yet unfortunately but I'll keep looking.

Decent set by Murray (if unspectacular). He came through some turbulent times to win the set.

I love the anti-Murray woman in the crowd who is shouting "Come on Cilic!" If you really were pro-Cilic you'd shout "Come on Marin!" I imagine. Anyway, Murray's going to cruise to this now, hopefully.

Send her to the Tower. This is Queen's Club. It's not cricket.

Murray serving much better now. Another hold to love. This is all about if Cilic can respond mentally and rise to the challenge put before him.

That last game by Cilic shows the difference between a top twenty player and a top five player.

Re: 2013 Aegon Championships
Well done to Andy Murray. He wins 5-7 7-5 6-3 to seal his third Queen's title levelling the great Jimmy Connors total. Commiserations to Cilic - a bold defence but he really must try to find that extra gear in order to be able to topple the very best players.

That is Andy's 27th ATP title win in his career leaving him one behind Lleyton Hewitt who has 28.

Andy.
Cilic played well the first two sets. Would expect better from him at W.

All those that think Murray has no sense of humour should watch this. And Lendl for that matter.

It wasn't on one channel long enough to record! Why they didn't stick with BBC2 'til the end is beyond me. A donation number on screen would have been good too. Great stuff from all players / celebs though

Re: 2013 Aegon Championships
I recorded the wrong channel too!
Congrats to Murray on a third Queens crown and commiserations to Cilic. Would be nice to see Cilic have a decent Wimbledon.
Only saw first set - presume Murray's fall didn't cause he or his fans any further worries?

Re: 2013 Aegon Championships
Goddam it! Just back from watching Man of Steel and my recording of the charity match failed too, because they kept switching channels. Why couldn't BBC have just picked a channel and stayed there?
Sounds like it was great too. Hopefully it will be on bbc iplayer soon.

TP - on first sight it looked like he'd rolled his ankle. But on replay you could see he'd just stretched his groin and five or ten minutes later he was fine.
He played brilliantly in the third set. First time I've seen him in top gear since the Aussie open.

Re: 2013 Aegon Championships
Thanks Danny - that's good to hear. Presumed he was reasonably ok because he didn't seem to call for a trainer at the end of set 1, but then I had to leave and wondered.
Great to hear that he woke up in the 3rd - he looked a little complacent at times in the 1st I thought.

I kept swapping channels but when it went to the red button, even though it said it was recording and the red light was on the box, it didn't!!! Grumble grumble.

BTW, was a great gesture from Murray to donate his substantial winners cheque to the Royal Marsden Hospital cancer charity fund
Its a hard sight seeing Ross Hutchins reduced from budding top doubles player to a relatively frail looking young man with a slightly haunted look in his eyes (as anyone has facing the unknown future of battling cancer).

He's got every reason to have a haunted look in his eye - I wonder whether we are more ready to see such a look in someone's eye for expecting it to be there. I've never been close enough to someone in such a situation (thankfully) to have any sort of view or real understanding of how it works.lydian wrote:BTW, was a great gesture from Murray to donate his substantial winners cheque to the Royal Marsden Hospital cancer charity fund

Anyway - well done Murray and best of luck to Hutchins.
