Without googling (which I did), who was Roland Garros and why did they name a stadium after him?

Was he a French chap who played tennis, and then did some charity of work or something?

Maybe he was the guy during the French Revolution who chopped off the heads of all the kings and stuff.

Maybe the tournament director in 1900 lost a bet with this guy, and thus had to name the tournament after him.

Maybe I'm being a bit hasty, but I'm guessing you don't know.

For some reason I'm thinking he was an aviator?

No idea why the stadium is named after him though.

Yes - WWI French fighter pilot. From wiki "In the 1920s, a tennis centre which he attended religiously when he was studying in Paris, was named after him"

A like that knight thing. The tournament named after knight Roland - sounds better than an aviator (or whatever it is that Mr. Garros did).
