I am having a variety of "new features" in the last couple of days. I had assumed this was from changing browser from Firefox to Chrome

Forumotion has rolled out a new upgraded editor. there's a "switch editor mode" button 3 icons to the right of the emoticons, or you could try a different browser

Some new changes. Can't remember which thread it's on but I think if you click on the bottom right you can drag and shape the text box to your needs Disney.

Yes Im having the same problem. There is a little icon on the bottom right hand side of the text box that you can click on and readjust size. However, as of today this doesnt work anymore if you are quoting someones post. Instead the text box just closes in on itself and cannot be readjusted.

Actually scratch that the bottom right hand icon seems to be working again. Try it.

Sorry about this guys - I promise its not the admin tinkering with it!
If you go to the homepage, in the top section there is a thread where other people have posted issues.
I have the same problem at work, I cant quote anymore and if I try to send a PM, my internet crashes completely (this is at work only as the firewall is brutal and we are using Windows -1)
If you want to quote, I suggest you copy and paste the stuff you need into the quick reply box, highlight it in there and hit the speech bubble (which quotes it)

Hi Adam, I have the same problem. However, for quoting I can get around this by resizing the text box using the resize icon on the bottom right hand side of the textbox. Sometimes however, then I cant drop the cursor below the quoted text in the text box. This can be resolved by cutting the whole quote and pasting it back in.

<ctl Z> sometimes does what it's meant to do (undo) and sometimes redo or paste it seems.
A bit confusing.

When I use quote button my comments appear as part of the original quote. I am using the same browser as I have been using for years. Something has definitely changed on the site.

Cut the quoted text out completly and then type your message. Then paste the quote back in above.

The software provider have done an upgrade - nothing us Admins can do about it
Click on the "switch editor mode" button (to the right of the emoticons smileyface) and you should be OK

I find the best way to deal with shrinkage is to tie a rubber band around it...

Have to say that ForuMotion's imposed changes make 606v2 worse.

I'm not anti-change so I don't want to, however tiny any improvements are to improve the platform, to be a saboteur or a Luddite.

Hi all,
I think (note the word) that I've managed to at least make the non-wysiwyg editor the default option when quoting - which will hopefully at least save you clicking the "switch editor" button every new session. Please let me know if that hasn't worked, it's the 1st time I've ever used javascript.
Forumotion are well aware of the bug (there's a nice 1000-post thread on their forum full of forum admins complaining about it), touch wood they find a solution quickly.
There are other bugs being reported by other forums around Internet Explorer ( ) and the mobile version.

A 'new session' meaning re-logged into v2?
On an individual comment I just c&p the phrase and utilise the user ref facility in the quote icon and paste.
Fifty shades of crêpe.

Yep, a new browser session.

Re: The text box shrinks when I'm typing. Not sure how to rectify.
I don't seem to be able to quote anyone and write anything outside the quote box. Basically anything I want to add in reference just looks like part of the quote, it won't let me type anything outside the same box as the quote. Judging by a couple of comments some people are having the same problem.

That's the problem I've just fixed (hopefully - see upthread), can you try again?
If it doesn't work, what browser are you using?

Noted, it showed as a smiley when I first clicked the icon.
As you may be able to tell the quote problem seems to be solved

I used to get annoyed by the added space put in by the smilies, as I'd usually already typed a space - so the change works for me

I know I asked a while back but is there anymore thoughts about moving to your own hosting, making it all a more combined experience?
The revenue from the ads would cover some of the costs and I'm we could all donate a few pennies to hello out.
I would love us to get to the stage of having even having our own mobile apps

There's a few issues with a change:
*Firstly there's porting people over - Forumotion owns the domain name "www.606v2.com" and the membership database, so we'd have to get everyone over to a new name, and manually recreate everyone's user ids (as an Admin I can "see" your email address in via the Admin area, but copying the email address field is disabled as a security measure (a good one IMO)). There's a lot of potential for error in manually typing usernames and email addresses into a new system. On the plus side it'd let us get rid of the "606" handle, which the BBC aren't too impressed we're using. But persuading our whole user base to move with us would be tricky.
*Secondly, message board software for self-hosting is generally either expensive, or rubbish (or at least it was the last time we looked into it) - with Forumotion we get a bit of control over the ads, and the ads at least cover the hosting charges. And us Admins probably don't have the right sort of tech savvy to do that stuff ourselves.
We have toyed with a change from time to time, but ultimately decided to try expanding the v2Journal side, which we have a lot more control over
As far as mobile apps goes, apparently (I found out today while researching the quoting issue) there were improvements to the mobile site rolled out in Feb (I don't actually know anyone who still used the old version given how bad the beta was), but the new editor has major issues with the mobile site (worse than the Internet Explorer 7/8 and Windows XP problems). We've also been lucky that we hadn't done any customisation of the old editor, forums that did are in a lot of pain now.

ah cool, thanks for your response. phpBB (the forum software used) is free and can be easily installed on separate hosting. I've done my own forum and combined it with wordpress (well just finishing it off) and its working well. I'll have a look into if there is a way around moving the dB from forumotion to hosting elsewhere. I'm more than willing to help out with the techy stuff. Who should I pm if I find anything?

Probably myself or Adam D. It's a fair while ago that we looked into the dB porting stuff - funnily enough Forumotion aren't keen on anything that helps someone leave them

Haha, yeah I've just been reading that elsewhere. Apparently they use a "modified" version of phpbb so that's why they can't export the database for you.... yeah right

Looks like it's possible but would a password reset for everyone's account as of course passwords are stored in a hashed format.
