Why did Japan win?
Good for Japanese rugby.
It's not so much the result that will benefit Japan, but the manner on which they won.
Maybe the win was unexpected, but after you see how Japan played it was completely deserved.
Japan didn't win because Wales had an off day or let them win. Japan played excellent. The intensity and skill was immense. Their first choice team is far far ahead of this 2nd string youthful Welsh side.
After seeing how good Japan played today Wales should feel proud they won last week.

Re: Good for Japanese rugby.
I studied Japanese at high school and university, and have been to Japan twice (last time in 2007 though ) so Japan are my second fav team. Saw them play well against France, then went down to Napier to watch them draw against Canada (both at RWC2011)
So DallyM is very happy at the moment!! Hopefully NZ can win tonight and it'll be perfect!

Well played Japan, just think where they could have been had the 2011 RWC had gone to Japan.

As in they would have done better?

Would be interesting if anyone can watch the England, Ireland and Wales matches today to compare the current summer teams with each other. Would give an idication about the depth in each country.

Re: Good for Japanese rugby.
well certainly our depth is not as good as we in Wales would might hope....
however I would clarify this to, our strength in depth is not good enough to sustain and be successful in implementing the power game that our first team does, and what does seem to have suffered is basic skills as a result, take away our big strike runners (Roberts north faletau and Cuthbert) and we a very ordinary side indeed

It's all doom and gloom now for another 25 years.

Re: Good for Japanese rugby.
I think that the lack of a Wales "A" team has had an impact on performance as much as losing players to lions. Not playing together before as a unit must have an impact? I may be wrong obviously and must admit my knowledge of the welsh international squad set up is limited so they may have all trained together as part of the wider squad. But if there was an "A" side they would be able to form those important links with each other over a long period of time.

Very true. However lets also remember the U20's are now in the Semi finals of the JWC and just beat a more experienced Argentina team. They have actually played some good rugby too.

DG - I'm pretty sure England have a stronger team than Ireland and Wales. Looking at the line up there are a few internationals in there. I think if the fixtures were reversed this Welsh team would not beat Argentina by 30 points and England would not have scraped a win and lost to Japan.

Japan were great to watch and deserved their win. Great to see big crowds for both tests too. Watershed moment for Japanese rugby?

Re: Good for Japanese rugby.
Pretty relieved at this result because I was worried for the future of Japanese rugby , given their dip in form since 2011.
Hopefully this result will do no end of good for rugby in the country.
