Healthy interest or just a bit weird?
So. Dilemma for me.
Djokovic is unveiling his Wimbledon outfit and doing a meet and greet a short hop from where I work tomorrow.
I'm tempted to go along but can't shake the feeling that this is behaving like a teenage girl who's heard that Justin Bieber is in town.
So what do you think? Interesting experience or just a bit lame?

Beyond lame, and you know it. You're just asking for permission to do what you know is inherently unsound.
If you're looking for enabling you need to pm some others. I'll send you a list of you want.

Can sort of understand your dilemma HMM.
But ultimately I must advise against it.
If you really really can't resist then do go - but only if you hereby accept that this is just one step away from getting a poster of him for your bedroom wall (and I'd bet big money that you would NOT wish to do that ....)

On one hand it's a fantastic chance to see an idol, on the other hand you could be standing behind a group of people and squealing when you catch a glimpse of him which is a touch fangirlish...... My advice is do it for a laugh.

As long as you don't throw underwear at him it's fine.
I'd go if any of the top guys were appearing near me.

Fainting and squealing are also bad moves. Anything else is fine. Enjoy

Re: Healthy interest or just a bit weird?
My other big concern is that I know he has recently expanded his range to include underwear. If it goes down that route, it really will have gone beyond my level of interest in the guy!
Plus you just know there'll be a press photographer there and we'll end up with a picture in the media of Novak in his briefs in front of a load of screaming girls and me in the background looking for all the world like a weirdo.
Then again, I've already queued to meet David Hasselhoff, so maybe I'm over-estimating my self esteem...!

Interesting that it's possible to present social ineptitude as self-confidence. I may employ that in the future.bogbrush wrote:I'm in awe of the self confidence it takes to declare that.HM Murdoch wrote:Then again, I've already queued to meet David Hasselhoff, so maybe I'm over-estimating my self esteem...!
Which enables me to make this confession:
It was a book signing. When the time came to meet the great man, I really got ushered through and was in his presence for about 3 seconds.
So I queued again and got the back cover signed too!
Got a decent a chat* with him the second time though!
*by "decent chat" it's quite possible that I really mean "an exchange of about 4 sentences".

I love that BB once had a dream that he met Federer and, even in a dream, he didn't want to appear too lame and chose to speak about work rather than tennis!

I was on a train from London a while back and two seats from me was Greg Wallace from Masterchef.
Complete nightmare, he never stopped pestering me for an autograph.

I once attended a Raquel Welch book-signing even though I didn't have her book.
And not too long ago I avoided Britt Ekland because her plastic surgery was such that all I wanted to say to her was "OMG, what happened to you?"

How long ago for Raquel? I understand that 20 years ago she was still quite striking. Didn't she end up being in-laws with Freddie Truman?JuliusHMarx wrote:I once attended a Raquel Welch book-signing even though I didn't have her book.

It was mid-80s I believe - still very attractive but more heavily made-up than I had expected. Or that may have been Sophia Loren - it's all a bit hazy - I saw them both.
I think I've already mentioned the time I chatted to 3 Bond girls.

If you can overcome the initial embarassment of being one of the few males in room, surrounded by hundreds of screaming fangirls, actually the situation might turn to positive and you could make some interesting new contacts there. Also, check out for Noleisthebest...........

Re: Healthy interest or just a bit weird?
At one of those conventions at the NEC - various celebs - they have movie ones and sports ones etc. I live close by and wanted to see Marina Sirtis, who didn't show up in the end. There was some Star Wars guys (Chewbacca, I think) and George Lazenby, Richard Kiel etc. I don't collect autographs, but was quite shocked that they all charged money for them - £5 even if you bring your own photo.
Anyway the queue for Olivia D'abo, Maud Adams and Lois Chiles was...well, there was no queue, so I went up, apologised for not wanting an autograph but chatted about D'abo's Bond Girl documentary, which I had recently seen, Chiles' appearances in Dallas (I told her sleeping with JR was a big mistake) and Adams' short-lived TV show Chicago Story, which I remembered quite well.

JHM, I suspect that they probably enjoyed that more than someone buying an autograph!
Serious kudos for being able to start non-Bond conversations with all three though. Good knowledge!

Re: Healthy interest or just a bit weird?
Anyway HM, you might as well go along - if you get a chance to say anything to him, ask him if the new shirts are rip-proof. I reckon that would a good line.
I recently missed the chance to ask Karren Brady, who happened to be in a local Sainsburys, where the Sugar was - and regretted it ever since.
Although on a very busy December day in my local Tesco a few years ago I did manage to say to Roy Wood "It's so busy in here - Thank God it's not Christmas everyday!"

If sitcoms have told me anything, it's that you shouldn't walk up to Richard Wilson and bellow "I don't believe it!"

I don't know what her name is, but the Bond girl from Skyfall was amazing. The one who gets shot in the deserted town. Looked a bit Oriental, and was a real stunner.
This is a much better conversation than draws or who's Wimbledon favourite!

Indeed LF. The same guy who made Last Tango...but also another film from an interesting 1949 book called The Sheltering Sky. The book was the inspiration behind and provided some lyrics for my favourite Police song...'Tea in the Sahara'...set here nicely with clips from The English Patient which evokes similar imagery to that portrayed in the book.

I think if you got to speak to him for five minutes and genuinely ask some interesting questions it might be OK but not to queue up and get a signature for a few seconds.

A brief chat would be great but queuing for an autograph is not really my thing.
Although if Ivanovic, Kirilenko or Sharapova ever did a clothing launch, that might test my resolve on that front!
