Jimmy ends up with 2 wickets for his troubles and Broad leads England with 3.

Its a funny game.

Trott striking considerably faster rate than Root at the moment.

Bet it won't completely sway his detractors though Very Happy

Bit of luck there for Root...very tough chance for de Villiers , Joe will take the four runs...

First ODI final for 9 years for England if we make it. Just 77 more to go.

For the last couple of games, Jonathan Trott has looked a bit more busy in the early half of his innings. That's a very good sign. Good temperament shown by young Root so far, he hasn't looked on top of his game today, but he hasn't given it away with anything rash so far.

Anything can happen in cricket, so until we win im not ruling anything out. Just ask Essex County Cricket Club that.

But once again Trott is proving to be the man with the bat. Him and Jimmy Anderson by far our best players in this tournament.

Trott gets his nth fifty of the summer. Yet still people will be calling for his head...

Root has done well to battle through so far, but has looked less at ease than he has when coming in after a more solid start.

Trott goes to fifty with a lovely cover drive. Perfect innings in this situation. Yet some still on twitter will want him gone

Trott again showing why he , along with Anderson , is the most important piece in the England ODI jigsaw.

But as Mike says , there will still be those who want someone more exciting...

The only change I think I'd want to this England ODI side is for KP to come in for Bell. Otherwise, we're golden.

This is a rather more relaxing semi-final that I had anticipated. Just been one long coast for England.

But please don't go to bed Alfie, last time you did that whilst England were playing, we fell apart against Sri Lanka!

Perfect example of Joe Root of how to throw away a wicket.

Tried to be too cheeky and has gone. Batted very well though. Time for the sloggers to come in and see us home!

Overall very solid stuff.  Shame Root did a silly again but otherwise a sensible approach to the chase.

such a strong performance is nice to see.  Definitely earning their place in the final today.

A terrific innings from Jonathan Trott. The most impressive aspects of this knock are that he was positive in the early half of his innings, picked up his strike rate without taking too many chances, and most importantly, didn't get out leaving the job to the lower order. He was there at the end, and in fact produced the winning hit as well. Second time he batted beyond the 35th over mark, and that addresses a significant criticism I had of him. KP back for Bell, and hopefully Stokes could graduate into a quality international all-rounder soon and take up that number 6 position sooner rather than later, and till then Bopara and Root can do a job.

Good win.

I think India look big favourites for this one but you'd have to fancy either them or SL against Eng in the final.  Eng certainly found sl too much to handle and India the same in their last series.  Good stuff getting there though.

Easy in the end for England after a couple of early wickets.

Thought Anderson should have been MotM TBH - his opening spell set up the win.

The weather stayed nice for today's game, but cricinfo suggests that things will be very difficult tomorrow. Even a washout is on the cards. India will go through if it is a complete washout. A curtailed game would even the sides a great deal more.

I think England would do better against India, than Sri Lanka personally.

Especially if they face them on a wicket with something in it for the seamers.

I don't feel the Indian batting line up has really been tested yet in this tournament (poor SA attack, WI attack was woeful and only chasing a low total, chasing a low total against Pakistan too)

I think England would prefer to play the Indians as well. Plenty of happy memories in recent times for England when playing India in 'big matches'; England would be confident of that continuing on their home patch.

9.10 am There's been a lot of rain in Cardiff this morning, but it's stopped for now. The covers are in place, and there's no hint of sun. There is no reserve day in the schedule, for any of the game in this tournament including the semis and the final. If this game is washed out, India will go through to the final, since they topped their group.

Shelsey93...I just logged on to CI and saw the above and undertsand what you mean.

it's a shame that ICC gets the top-8 sides and doesn't provision for reserve days even in the knock.out games.

so if 20 overs are not completed........India will go throuhg.

and what if 20 overs are not completed in the final either because of rain......India will be declared winner because they did not lose a single game ?

^ yeah I remember we were joint holders of one of the previous versions of CT with Lanka

and that was inspite of having a reserve day...the game was started from scratch after the 2nd inning was washed out on D1.
and on the 2nd day again they completed one inning.

Imagine the weirdity of the situation...they played 100 overs in 2 days without a result Shocked

The Indian seamer have gotten movement and bounce off a length.......at good speeds and the Lankans have been literally pegged to the back-foot so far.
