Australia v Lions: Alternative stats
This is a really good site that Biltong pointed me towards and goes into far more detail on matches than ESPN which frankly I've always thought is useless for stats.Unfortunately it only covers SH games in real depth but it has some interesting stats form the Lions match today.Compare and contrast with ESPN.

It gets updated over the week,I'd say they'll give him that but maybe they only count a pass as an assist. That's the problem with stats.

Looked like a pretty perfect grubber to me, http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/rugby/israel-folau-hits-all-of-the-high-notes-in-sensational-wallabies-debut-against-british-and-irish-lions/story-fnh5q2eu-1226668122440

Re: Australia v Lions: Alternative stats
Well, posters have been quoting Heaslip as having 2 which he does here so I'm guessing it's turnovers won. Guessing though.

Re: Australia v Lions: Alternative stats
Then again Aus have 11 turnovers here. Did they win that many? Could be conceded as you say CJ

No Cuthbert has one turnover and it was won in general play whereas Heaslip has 2 turnovers, one won in general play and one in a ruck/maul.Croft alos won one turnover in general play.
edit: my mistake I was only looking at the 2nd half stats.

I'm just quoting the stats from the link at the top of this thread (the alternative stats we're all talking about). Says Heaslip and Cuthbert 2 each, but as CJ says we're not sure if this is turnovers won or lost.

Re: Australia v Lions: Alternative stats
I just posted this on the main match thread regarding the stats on ESPN & the official Lions website and thought it might be relevant here as well.
stlowe wrote:Both those sources have their stats supplied by Opta, which I believe is the world's biggest sports data company, providing most of the big broadcasters, media, teams and bookmakers. I remember seing a video on how they do it and for big games they have analysts watching live to provide stats on the go. The videos are later reviewed and with the benefit of pause, rewind & zoom, the on the fly stats corrected if need be. My experience is that with most games being played at the weekend they tend to have any corrections to the original stats out by Monday lunch.
