Re: How many Lions supporters like stats?
The thing about stats is that they're constrained by a great big dollop of relativity.
Relativity happens when number of games played is taken into account. Some Lions players have played only one game so far (or part thereof). The numbers go up through 2 games, 3 games and so on to 8 games (or part thereof) being the highest.
Relativity also happens when the quality of opponents are taken into account. Some opponents are easy, some tougher, Australia toughest. Some players got to play more easy games than tough ones. Some played more 'toughest' games than tough or easy ones; etc, etc.
Thus moves the world... unevenly

The trouble with Stats is that they are only useful if you apply a t-test or correlation coefficient etc. to ensure reliability and validity. Otherwise they are about as usful as a chocolate teapot or Ashton on the wing

There is nothing more fungible than a hard and fast number.
Numbers without context are worse than meaningless.
And context comes from watching.
And understanding.
Only value of stats without context is fantasy Rugby.

I need a little space here.
How many degrees of freedom are we supposed to apply to the quoted sample?

Port,
Since your pld name, do you also have the same problem as the fictional Mr. Portnoy? Perhaps that's why your keys might stick together from time to tme? At lease with your original nom de guerre you are more combative.
To wit, draw! Stats is like the new digital controls in the car which can do everything from play 1000 stations of lousy music, navigate you to the nearest cathouse, calculate exactly where you will run out of petrol, but not tell you when to stop.
All effing useless you actually put petrol in the silly thing in the first place.
So do the basics before thinking about stats and watch some Rugby without benefit of the uber special equipment.

Ah! My fault. I was driving a diesel. What a cilly sunt.
Before the massive engine failure I was wondering why GPS over 50-80 mins would make a degree of difference. Although a cumulation of (say) 1000 mins might.
Meanwhile I'll probably watch the final test with strong interest but no passion whatsoever.

Alternatively, Griff, looks like he's left out more than half of those with the best stats?

Re: How many Lions supporters like stats?
Faletau will be the game changer on Saturday.
Cuthbert only out because of Bowe.
Tuilagi deserves his chance.
Ian Evans unlucky.

Really?
He's chosen the winger with the most clean breaks; chosen the 8 with the most carries over the other 8 (can't pick both); the 3 players who have beaten most defenders; AWJ is in as 3rd best lineout catches - is this a form thing though? - it depends on someone actually throwing it to you - lineout drops would have been better; the winger who has the best metres made stats; the only forward with top offload stats; the kicker who has scored the most points; the player with the most tackles.
