Wimbledon Limps On... 7 Players Pull Out
Just seen Tsonga retire against Gulbis with a knee injury. He follows Azarenka, Isner and Cilic. Oh and Darcis and Stephanek who have all retired or withdrawn. I think that's all... but just for today. Is this a record? Just seen Sharapova have a nasty slip too.

Darcis was a shoulder injury from a dive V Nadal, Stepanek (hamstring and could happen on any surface), Cilic (he pulled out before his match so wasn't a slip or anything as far as I know) and not sure about Isner as in whether that was a slip or an injury he carried into the match.

^ I wasn't specifically referring to the problem with slipping on the grass just noting the number who have withdrawn. Is it a record?
There's more about the slipping problem here

Well apparently today is a new record for withdrawals/retirements in one day at any slam since the beginning of the Open Era in 1968.

Apparently JIsner's was a shoulder injury instead of a lower limb one. I wonder why the courts are slippy this year compared to other years. Queen's was pretty bad too so it's not just Wimbledon. It appears the players who aren't renowned for their movement retiring too.

Shock horror.....what's this, people slipping and sliding around the place on grass ?????
Whatever next, I'm going to write to the AELTC and complain,
and tell them to stick signs everywhere saying.....
DANGER - GRASS
(the green stuff under your shoes)
It's not Hard Court, its TURF.
You may be liable to less friction
than you are used to.
Be Careful, Be Aware, Be fricking Awake !

Re: Wimbledon Limps On... 7 Players Pull Out
If Azarenka and Sharapova had made the effort to play at Eastbourne, they might not have found the slippery nature of grass-court tennis to be such a shock to them....
Re: Wimbledon Limps On... 7 Players Pull Out
Just out of interest I wonder what brand of footwear were those that slipped wearing or what kind of tread was on the sole? I mean Sharapova claimed that Court Two 'was dangerous' but Lleyton Hewitt played on there the match before and came off saying he had no problems with it. I never saw Federer or Murray slipping or a number of other players. As well not all of yesterday's withdrawals were to do with the surface. Darcis was a shoulder injury caused when he dived for a volley v Nadal, Stepanek was a hamstring injury and Isner brought the injury into the match.
