TRAIN WITH EX-NFL PLAYERS! Unique opportunity to get coached by former NFL players next month!
Hi guys,
Firstly, apologies for absence for, well, all of last season - to give a quick explanation (and wee bit of a humblebrag), got tapped up to write for SB Nation's Bucs coverage (for actual money!), and I'm now assistant editor for SB Nation's Bucs page and also do their International Series coverage, which basically left me with not much time for other places where I used to talk NFL including here.
So, with that out the way, I wanted to tell you about American Football Development Limited, a company I recently co-founded (and I cleared it with Pr4wn that it was OK to advertise this here )
AFD are devoted to bridging the true Stateside football culture with the culture that's increasingly growing in the UK, wider Europe and the rest of the world. There'll be various avenues in which we'll do this, but one of the most fundamental parts of football culture is the game itself - and that's where we're focusing our attention on first.
On April 5th & 6th, we'll be hosting the 2014 Pro-Am Kickoff Adult Camp, and on April 10th & 11th, we'll be hosting our Youth Camp. It's a two-day camp where you'll be taught the ins and outs of the game by genuine former NFL players. Here's a quick round up of our coaches' bios:
Byron Chamberlain:
Two-time Super Bowl winning tight end with the Denver Broncos under John Elway
2001 Pro Bowl as a Minnesota Viking
Retired in 2004 after one year with the Washington Redskins
Led NFL Europe (World League) in receptions, yards and touchdowns in 1996 as a member of the Rhein Fire before being called up to the Broncos active roster in 1997
Ronnie Ghent:
Played fullback for the Cincinnati Bengals & Orlando Predators (Arena Football League)
Played tight end for the New Orleans Saints
First ever tight end to be named to the All-Conference USA first team in four consecutive seasons, playing for the University of Louisville Cardinals under Bobby Petrino
Won UFL Championship in 2011 under one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time, Marty Schottenheimer
Derrick McBride:
Played linebacker and corner at Kansas State
Played linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys
Played corner for the St. Louis Stampede (Arena Football League)
Running backs coach for the University of Washington
Orrin Thompson:
Played OL for the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers (blocking for Brett Favre) and New York Giants, plus in the UFL and CFL
10 years playing offensive line in the pros
You can read more details about the camp itself here.
As part of your camp ticket, you'll also got a year's subscription to our online curriculum, which we think is genuinely revolutionary in the access it gives British players to ex-NFL players. You can read more about the curriculum here.
The opportunity to learn from decades of on-field professional football experience does not come along often. If you currently play football in the UK, this is an opportunity of a lifetime; if you don't yet play, but have considered it, then what better way to start than learning from a two-time Super Bowl-winning Pro Bowl tight end, a fullback/tight end who has played under Bobby Petrino, Sean Payton and Marty freakin' Schottenheimer, an ex LB/CB who played college at K-State under Bob Stoops (current HC of the Oklahoma Sooners) and linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, and a lineman who used to block for Brett Favre?
If you've got any more questions, hit me up here or on Twitter (@AFDLimited) or on Facebook, or check out our website at http://www.afdlimited.com
Looking forward to seeing you guys at camp. Cheers!

If I wasn't so far away I'd be keen for this! Are all experience levels welcome?

Absolutely! From rookies to grizzled vets, everyone who attends the camp will leave a much better player than they arrived.
What's more, women are as welcome as men! For any contact drills, it will be restricted to men vs men and women vs women, but for the rest of the camp (especially the flag tournament at the end, where the attendees will have the chance to test themselves against a team made up of our coaches!) will be appropriate for mixed-gender drills.

I won't make the obvious 6-finger joke there, Olly.

Seriously though I got a good set of hands, and if I could be bothered to get into shape I can run OK, used to be quite elusive when we played rugby same difference innit

Well Canterbury isn't that far from you. Train it into London and then get a train out from Victoria or Charing Cross.

I've always fancied myself as a linebacker (used to play blindside flanker for my rugby team) .. thinking about giving this a go

School?
SCHOOL!?
You're 18. This may be your last chance to be spotted as the next Jerry Rice.
Plus who wants to go and see Norwich play?

I've got exams soon innit, I'll go to the next one, or a join a team in the summer or something
I've paid for it already, plus I've got nothing better to do with my life
Although the prospect of beating Bambam over the middle is intriguing
