Welcome to Season 6 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (Ozzy3213) as to how the situation will be resolved.
Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (me) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.
Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 20 players. Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1991.
Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page. Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.
Transfers wrote:
- Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.- Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. These players must be bid for on the Domestic Transfer Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by me on its own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.- Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by me against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.
Structured Window
No cash will be used and each team will get effectively free transfers by way of a draft, which will run 12th, 11th, 10th …… 1st, 12th, 11th,10th… 1st place side. This will run from 10th June 2013 until all teams have had their two picks.
Open Window
Open transfer window, teams have unlimited bids provided they have the financial resources to cover them. Teams may only bid for one player at a time.
Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation
Compensation will be paid as follows
£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other
All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the Domestic Transfer Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be Heineken Cup, Amlin Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday. Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday. Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday. Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday. Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 20:00 hours on Saturday. Managers will post the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.
Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result. To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box. If you are not providing a descriptive prediction you will be restricted to predicting a 1 point win either way.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.
In addition, each team must have the following:-
At least 10 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.
At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.
All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).
Failure to comply with these rules will result in forfeiting the match and a 1 league point deduction.
If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.
Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.
Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.
Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point for a first offence, two for a second offence and so on.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.
£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc.

Re: Homepage
After a long think, this is my decision on this weekends Lions team. I've decided that attack is the best form of defence.
1. Alex Corbisiero
2. Tom Youngs
3. Adam Jones
4. Richie Gray
5. Alun Wyn-Jones
6. Sean O'Brien
7. Justin Tipuric
8. Jamie Heaslip
9. Mike Phillips
10. Jonny Sexton
11. George North
12. Jamie Roberts
13. Brian O'Driscoll (c)
14. Tommy Bowe
15. Leigh Halfpenny (k)
16. Richard Hibbard 17. Mako Vunipola 18. Dan Cole 19. Geoff Parling 20. Tom Croft 21. Conor Murray 22. Owen Farrell 23. Manu Tuilagi
First point is that Jonathan Davies is hugely unlucky to miss out on the starting 15 let alone the 23, but I can't see a side without POC, Warbs and BOD and BOD will need to captain. Next in line is Heaslip which will see Pooly combust I suspect.
Think we need Manu on the bench just to offer something new. He can do things that will scare Oz and offers a great option on 60. At lock I prefer Gray to Evans and alongside AWJ and HEaslip I think they have enough to win our own ball. Worth pointing out that Hartley would likely have started all three tests had he not been such a fool.

Re: Homepage
As much as I don't rate Heaslip, SOB takes the carrying burden away from him and allows him to do whatever he does I guess.
Phillips and attacking don't really go together for me Steve. Unless he's muscling through the guard he doesn't add anything. His box kicking and distribution is poor and he speed to the breakdown not good either. First test showed how easy he is to defend.
Murray or Youngs have to start for me, both offer a running threat and with actual ball carriers in the team will be able to exploit Aus's retreating defence.
This all depends on us getting over the gain line though, if we fail to again with 0 line breaks we may as well start Adam Jones at SH as he'll have nothing to work with.

Think I would pretty much agree with that Steve - Hartley will always regret that, what a muppet he was in that moment.
Do you think that is what Gatland will pick though?
Thing that worried me is that we managed to get 18 turnovers at the weekend and didnt mount one serious attack, or make any breaks. Thought the game was ideal for Youngs, but he had a poor game and had a woeful kicking game. Murray did well when he came on and from what I've seen of the press conferences I would be v surprised if Phillips didnt start again.

No, I think Gatland will start Lydiate which I find depressing as I don't think Lydiate has a role in this side.

Great places I love ko Lanta off krabi great island. On phi phi there is a boxing bar where you can box a member of the crowd and the winner gets a bucket of samsong. I ended up fighting a Swedish chap out of my mind. It's a good job he was small. Such a weird idea for a bar. Still can't believe I was so drunk I got involved

Ko Lanta is a bit quieter but does probably best food in Thailand and some really chilled out beach spots. Some good bars but definitely more laid back.
Whenever out that way I always do a bit of time there for relaxation. Worth a look that's for sure. It's getting more and more built up but still has the really chilled vibe

Havent been Phi Phi side since 2003 so looking forward to it. Post Tsunami - hope it hasn't changed too much but bet it has. Did Koh Samet last time too. Awful for me - speed boats and the like - not our scene.
Laos meant to be great scenery. No beaches which Im not keen on but Mrs well up for it so compromised a week in each.

Koh samet was garbage when I went there also.
Phi phi has changed quite a bit to be fair.
They all do. Lanta was more built up 3 years ago but still really good. Laos is quite interesting and a change from the beaches although I could spend months doing very little on the beaches

Good article by Greenwood today about how vital it is to have Jamie Roberts back for us, that losing him has mucked up our entire gameplan and hasn't allowed our scrumhalves to play the way they should be.

Hope he plays and that Manu is on the bench as opposed to Davies.

Horwill citing is a joke, its the Burger incident again.
Flipside is IRB know rugby is dying in Aus and biggest test of the year would be a few pennies short of a pound with out there captain.
I'm also willing to pay top doller for a NH 10 or one who is free to play in Internationals

Fair play Gatland has been reasonably bold with selection (besides Lydiate). Dropping BOD is a huge call where he has removed all sentiment from his mind. Wasn't sure he had it in him.

Re: Homepage
Bowe's adequate cover at fb Fluxy - with Roberts coming back from a hamstring I think it is far more sensible to have someone who can cover the centres as probably a big chance he wont last the 80minutes.
Roberts back is huge - clear we've gone for the smashing the Aussies and being physical game plan. And probably the most impact we could have got from our bench if Gatland uses it right.
Can see why Croft has gone, as the games have been so tight that we haven't been able to utilise his pace and attacking threat. Has the aussie team been named?
Davies over BOD is a huge call, especially as Davies has had two extremely bad games at 12. Losing BODs leadership qualities could be a big factor, as thought we've lacked leaders a bit in the tests.

Break time was great here. Girls in the office who I doubt have ever watched a game of rugby calling BODs drop the biggest disgrace ever. Haven't seen anyone who hasn't an opinion on it yet this morning!

Whilst he hasnt played very well, he has been better than JD2 who is very lucky to be playing. As is Hibbard.
Tuilagi not starting one test is beyond a joke for me.

Davies has a bit of gas about him though, he'll be more threatening than BOD I imagine and has the ready made partnership with Roberts.
I know BOD & Roberts clicked in 2009 but it's risky to to throw them straight in again.
I quite like the team tbh. Prefer not to see Lydiate and Phillips but at least the backrow has a bit more in terms of carrying with SOB & Faletau, I can understand his inclusion.
Phillips is baffling, he was so so bad in the first test, one of the worst Int performances I've seen for a long time, he needs a HUGE game to justify selection.

Bit harsh on Murray not to start. He has been the most consistent SH this tour.

Agreed about Murray to start and then maybe Youngs on bench for zip.

Re: Homepage
Pooly another way of looking at Phillips inclusion, is that if Ben Youngs had taken his chance then Phillips would have struggled to make the bench. Youngs didn't take his chance unfortunately and got some real criticism, especially with his kicking.
Would also say that despite his faster service it made no difference to our attack, struggling to recall one break or move. Gatland's tactics seem to be all about power, getting us over the gainline and putting pressure on opposition to get pens in key areas.
He ballsed that right up in the first two tests with his team selection, as playing JD as a ball crashing 12 was never going to work, also no ball carriers in the front five.
At least if we lose we can blame the Welsh

Do like the media's reaction to 10 Welsh in the starting lineup!
"Why does Warren Gatland not just jettison Jonny Sexton for Neil Jenkins and have done with it?
It is also a brazen insult to the very concept of the Lions, intended to signify an unbreakable alliance of four home unions and two sovereign states but in reality more saturated in Welsh partisanship on this tour than if they were headquartered in Ebbw Vale."

Re: Homepage
The thing that frustrates me about the media is I wonder how the Irish/Scottish/English media would react if 10 people from their country got selected to start.....they'd probably be knighting them all. Why can't people in the media and on the main boards here get off their high horse and just support the Lions which we should all be doing into a deciding game.
I know I can be a bit Welsh biased however, and this is radical, I was reading and thinking about 1/2p.....yes he can kick but so can Sexton and pretty well, 1/2p hasn't really been making many breaks or dangerous runs like we saw Hogg doing mid week.....just something to think about.

We'd win if we had 10 people from England playing though Prop

Re: Homepage
Think the Scots would act in disbelief and then say there were still too many English on the tour.
Would say Hibbard, Parling, Phillips, Davies are all very lucky to be involved in the starting lineup. Not having BOD could be a huge error by Gatland, may not be near his best, but for leadership there is noone else that compares - has AWJ ever captained Wales?
