Is Gatlands final Test team Conservatism dressed up?
Interesting point made regarding the latest test team. In many ways, when push has come to shove Gatland has called on his familiar faces. Was he ever really sold on BOD to begin with? Injuries meant the decision was straightforward up until now and when the Lions finally have a most centres fit he has reverted to the Welsh duo and dropped BOD completely.
So while he probably knew leaving BOD out was going to generate the headlines, in the mean time he has packed his team full of his Welsh contingent that hes familiar with with a couple more on the bench likely to feature. Basically its a return to familiarity. Leaving BOD out makes it look like a radical gamble but is it really just Gatland being conservative and looking to his famiiar faces for the final test?

Yes.
It's a frighteningly unambitious selection. Basically we're going to do what Wales have been doing against Australia for a number of years.

The worrying thing is it has failed for Wales on so many occasions. Gatlands record against Australia is poor. Maybe worth remembering that the first test was one with only 8 Welsh players.
