DEBATE-AMANIA!

As we all know, wrestling fans don't agree on anything and are willing to defend their opinion to the death even when people aren't willing to listen...this got me thinking.

This got me thinking...I'm looking for 16 opinionated people to take part in a knockout tournament to crown the first ever Debate-amania Champion! The basic idea is that each week you will be given an opinion and in 500 words of less you must explain why that opinion is correct against someone who has been given the opposite opinion...once all the opinions are in then the other competitors vote for who they think gave the most compelling defence...the winner going through to the next round and one step closer to immortality...er...or bragging rights (just as good right). To keep everything fair I have decided that Debate-amania will be 100% anonymous, meaning that people vote for what is being said and not who it is being said by because after a while this could turn in to one big popularity contest which is not what this is about.

As with every contest there are some boring rules and deadlines I would expect you to follow to keep everything running smoothly.

Deadlines (These may change)

Opinions will be messaged to you on Sunday evening (usually after 7:30pm - due to work commitments)
All opinions must be PM'd to me by midnight of Wednesday of that week, giving you three days to write your statement
Opinions will be posted on Thursday and voting will open
The deadline for votes to be in is Sunday by noon and results will be posted a few hours later and new topics will be handed out at random

Rules

Each statement has a word limit*, for every 100 words over this limit a deduction of 1 point will be made to your vote score...meaning if you ended up winning 9-7 but your statement was over 800 words you would end up losing 7-6.
If you miss the deadline to PM me your show then your opponent is given an automatic win (this is to stop making the contest run for too long).
If you fail to vote you will be deducted 3 points.
As this contest is anonymous, if you reveal which statement is yours before voting closes then you will be deducted 5 points (harsh I know)
In the case of a draw, my vote will be final in deciding the winner.

*for the round of 16 and quarter finals the word limit will be 500 words

*the semi finals will have a word limit of 1000 words

and the final will consist of three questions, 1000 words each, ending with one winner in the

three stages of hell Debate-amania main event!

THE OPINION OF DEATH!

For the first three rounds there will be the dreaded opinion of death, an opinion so far out there that it would take a genius to win their round...if you are given this question and manage to win your round then you go in to the next round with the choice of which opinion you defend next meaning you could put yourself up against the next unlucky person to draw the OOD! There will be no opinion of death in the final but if you manage to win the OOD in the semi final...you could go in to the final with the opinion of your choice.

Like I said, this is just an idea at the moment...I don't have every opinion in mind and the rules/deadlines may change if people suggest better ideas...the OOD could be scrapped or maybe even in the first two rounds there could be two of them...anyway, if you're interested then post in here and I'll put your name on the list...I'm looking for 16 people to join as I think that's a good number to kick of the first ever Debate-amania championship with and as always it's first come first serve.

I'm also open to suggestions for opinions that should be debated or OOD's though I have a couple in mind already.

I will leave sign up open for two weeks, if the 16 people aren't found by then I'll give up on the idea...if we get more than 16 people I may consider holding a bigger tournament.

Antlord my response to Kayfabe wasn't a dig at you, it may have read a bit harsh but it was just a general joke...I replied in the message though saying I hoped you're ok...I didn't feel like you'd want a random stranger on the internet getting involved in your business so I left it short, the sympathy was genuine though.

Also I obviously didn't post any reasons why you had dropped out on here due to the fact I didn't know the circumstances and it's no-one's business but your own, so i doubt Kayfabe meant anything by it.

Four hours till the deadline!

will attempt to post the round one thread tomorrow before work as I'm on a 12 hour shift and that will give you until Saturday to read the opinions and vote by midnight on Saturday.

Results will go up Sunday and the next opinions will be handed out...the new deadlines for that week will also be decided as I think three days is a bit too short.

No, I want to keep this all opinion based and not based on who is making the opinion...when I announce the results I'll reveal who said what but until then it's against the rules to talk about which opinion is yours or find out who is behind an opinion...

Sweet! hopefully by tonight we'll have everyone's in because with the effort gone in to the ones so far it would be a shame to have people go through due to other people not meeting the deadline.

I managed to get about 300 words in the end but I do think I had the toughest of the topics. I was hoping for the finger poke of doom!

Ok, so JJ has got in touch to say that he won't be able to make the deadline tonight meaning one of you has a free pass to the next round...we have two options...

Allow the free pass OR add an extension of a couple days to give him time to finish OR find someone to take his place?

We're still waiting for a few others as well.

I say allow him to finish. This thing is tough, what with having a life outside 606. If possible, just put up a debate in which both sides have finished their arguments, and give the rest an extension. It isn't "fair", but it would be a pity for half the first round debates to be walkovers.

Ok, so right now we are waiting for JJ, Paul Mac and Chris (Dolphin), Paul said he's doing his...JJ may be dropping out and Chris forgot about it. I've decided to add one last extension until 9 o'clock tonight, after that any still not in will count as a DQ, it will be a shame to have to do it but I need to stick to my deadlines.

So, by 10 tonight the opinion's thread will be posted and the vote deadline will still be Saturday night.

Ok so here is the current situation...we currently have entries from me, Nando, Kayfabe and The Great Marty H...I won't say if we have walkovers or not but with half of the people still to get in I'm not sure what to do.

I can extend the deadline and message everyone but I feel like I shouldn't have to chase everyone up, especially when people have ignored my messages in the last few days.

These are my options:

Wait until Sunday and then go ahead with posting what we have OR give some of the better "losers" a second chance?

Opinions?
