League Reboot
Please register your interest should we press ahead and reboot the league.
This is also a good chance to air grievances with current rules and suggest new ones, as well as any innovations you have to make it better.
We may entirely ignore all suggestions, such is our wont.

Team Selection
- Every team valued at 100m or below is available
- Everybody bids for their preferred team
- Maximum bid is 120m, Minimum 70m. Bids must also be at least TM value of the club
- Any money left over from the 120m budget goes into your budget for a player draft
Results
Same as before
Voting
Same as before, however 1 good/bad point for each team required
TP Limit
Draft = no TP limit
Start of the league = £10m limit
Each week = £1m increase
End of season 1 = £19m TP limit (based on 10 teams, no cup weeks as we'd do that at the end)
End of season 2 = £28m
You could make it £12m > £21m > £30m if preferred?
This will change slightly depending on number of teams.
Injuries
AGREED AS 4 INJURIES PER WEEK
Do we want any form of transfers healing injuries?
NO
Whether to ditch U21 and nationality restrictions

Re: League Reboot

Draft or teams? I'd prefer teams tbh, with budgets appropriate to their quality.
TM or realistic? I prefer TM.
Rule changes? Common sense to prevail this time.
Voting? I'd make everyone vote on all games.
Feedback? I'd ask everyone to give a general comment, then give 1 Good and 1 Bad comment, so we know what's working and what isn't.
League split? I'd have one league instead of two separate ones, this split is rubbish imo.
Cup? I'd do an end of season one.
Probably more thoughts later

Re: League Reboot
Id opt for a draft teams.
More injuries & with longer injury lengths to put more emphasis on having a better squad rather than just a starting XI with one or two backup. Three injuries, max lengths 3 weeks, like what I suggested before. I would be happy to run that too.

Re: League Reboot
I think 100m starting budget, bid for teams based on total TM Value, and change is budget. £5m limit.
Also a rule that one lawyer must be accepted every week to encourage deals

Also agree with zzz, more injuries to test squads more. Force players out of position, 3rd choice keeper etc

Re: League Reboot
Keep the draft, but change the stipulations.
Not necessarily less money, keep the nationality rule but go for different countries or let everyone choose their own nationality? Then you must have 10 from that country in your squad and 3/4 in your XI.

I propose a 1 quit rule.
I.e. if you quit the league, you may not return to manage another team.

Re: League Reboot
If you're putting more countries in, then it's not really fair to make someone have 10 Portuguese in their squad, as you'd be held to ransom if someone else had one of the few decent Portuguese players.
What about this - no TM limit? So I could save up for Messi if I wanted.

Re: League Reboot
I like Treb's idea of you getting a budget and you spend it on buying a real life team according to the total value on TM. Any budget left can then be spent on transfers.
So you can buy a £100m team and have to sell to buy, or a £45m team and have £55m transfer budget.

If you do that, also try and less money in the league, so saving up for Messi would be possible, but would have a big effect on the rest of your squad. Especially if the number of injuries (or suspensions) increased.

Re: League Reboot
Depends on how may TPs you get each week, and what the TM limit is. No point in having a £55m transfer budget if the TP limit is £8m and you only get 2 TPs each week.
The 1 quit rule is quite sound in principle soddy, but that severely limits your recruiting pool when vacancies come up. Unless you say '1 quit rule but if you want to come back in we take £5m off your budget' or something?

Everyone would be choosing their own country, so no-one's fault but your own if you're stuck with 10 Portuguese players.

Re: League Reboot
I would say that the strength of the league (until the last few weeks) is the participation. Tactics are normally always in and in 99% of the cases of good quality. Votes are normally in as well.
The weakness is in the feedback. Often it is not feedback but match commentary. It needs to be more this is good, this is what I think needs to be improved. Not necessarily going to a prescribed format, but almost along those lines

Re: League Reboot
Just a thought.
Having the TP Limit rise every two weeks makes players become disposable quickly, sell off players every two weeks to get better. Also with the higher values then only allowing a handful of players when the limit rises.
My suggestion would be have a bigger gap between limit increases & a bigger increase itself. So instead of £2m every 2 weeks do £4m every 4 weeks?

What would stop someone from buying Accrington Stanley & then making loads of pre season transfers?Afro wrote:So you can buy a £100m team and have to sell to buy, or a £45m team and have £55m transfer budget.

And once the rules have been decided, get everyone to take a look and come up with issues.

Re: League Reboot
Like I said, I'd ask everyone to give a general comment, then give 1 Good and 1 Bad comment, so we know what's working and what isn't. So something like
Afro's Wife Beaters 2-1 Sodhat's Strange Slippers
John Ebbrell + Graham Stuart / Tim Breacker
Summary: AWB were too strong in midfield and their CBs covered SSS strikers easily. SSS had a solid back line but they were under pressure for most of the game.
AWB Good / Bad: Use of Robert Warzycha down the flank / asking Big Nev to jump for balls
SSS Good / Bad: Julian Dicks on free-kick duties / Kevin Keen man-marking Peter Beagrie

Nothing. But would you be able to build a much stronger squad with the money than someone who has bought a team worth £100m.
In theory no because in both cases, you'd end up with £100m worth of players

Re: League Reboot
I think the problem is that managers have dropped out, some new managers are doing half hearted tactics, people voting has fallen away. It's just become a bit jaded.
There is that little effort going in, that the result at the end of the season is going to be a bit meaningless isn't it. It'll be full of default wins and results determined by only half the votes

Re: League Reboot
I would never even think of doing half-tactics or not voting, I'm an all-or-nothing guy. As a lot of us are. I never take holidays even! It's better to have 8-10 consistent managers than 10-12 where you're always running the risk of losing one of them at any given moment.

Re: League Reboot
How many votes were there last week? There were that few for the Premier League that the results where heavily skewed by a single vote. I don't think whoever wins the Prem this season could take much bragging rights from it

We're lucky in the Europa League, we get at least 7 out of 8 votes each week. It really helps, because doing results with 4/5 votes is not fair on those teams involved.

The last couple of seasons have been pretty much 100% voting with the odd exception, and the league worked well.

These leagues are only ever enjoyable when all the managers are around, banterising, talking about Wilshere vs Scholes and generally laughing at each other. If you're not getting that 'fun' element now, then re-boot with everyone back on board.

Re: League Reboot
I think years of playing these games have made me realise that there is no perfect system for calculating results. The one we currently use is actually one of the best working, when you get a decent number of votes in. It's only when you have a small number of votes that it falls down

Re: League Reboot
I think no loaning money is a good rule to include.
This should include deals that are paid in installments/"including next weeks bonus".
Transfers should be all the money up front and if you can't afford it, then you wait until you can.
Also, something to stop end of season loans where a team with nothing to play for loans out their best players to a team who does

That's also agreed I reckon, they are stupid get-arounds that make it unfair on some teams.
Does anyone want to put together a long-list of things to agree before the re-boot? Afro, as you're the leader of the gang?
