WWE's Biggest Draw Empty WWE's Biggest Draw

Post by Mr H Tue 16 Jul 2013, 10:35 am

I was going to include The Undertaker and John Cena but I don’t think anyone touches The Rock and Brock Lesnar in terms of drawing power for the WWE. They are arguably, no they are definitely the 2 biggest draws currently at the WWE’s disposal but my question is who is the biggest draw of the two? The smart money would clearly be on The Rock due to his Hollywood status but he’s had his critics since returning to the WWE. His promo’s have been a tad tiresome, he’s gassed a lot in matches and maybe he’s turned into a bit of a parody of himself but I’m not doubting how much of a draw he still is. The Rock is a huge huge star, people would buy a ticket to watch him and I get that but for me, in 2013, i’d rather buy a ticket to see the other guy. Let’s just say this person’s name in a Paul Heyman-esque voice. Just say it to yourself for me – ‘Brock….Lesnar’. Say it again – ‘Brock…. Lesnar’. Sounds good huh. The guy is a 100% blockbuster box office marquee star draw. He’s intense, he’s intimidating, you take notice of whatever he does, you can’t take your eyes off him, he’s a beast, a legitimate badass and his whole aura just screams ‘I am the fricking man’. I’d have to vote for Lesnar.

My next question is this: It’s been suggested that The Rock and Brock Lesnar could face off at Wrestlemania XXX. Being the 2 biggest draws the WWE currently have, is it a good idea to put them in the same match or would you split them across 2 matches to benefit giving their respective opponents huge exposure?

Anyway, please vote and explain your reasons for it.

Mr H

I went for The Rock as he is a huge movie star so can make non wrestling fans tune in. I think Brock Lesnar is more of a draw for hardcore wrestling fans or fans of real fighting (UFC) but in overall terms it has to be Dwayne Johnson.

Based on WWE's stocks yesterday, I'd say The Ultimate Warrior.

To be honest I'd buy tickets to see CM Punk over both these guys. I know they are not exactly at WWE's disposal but I would also say the same for Austin and HBK. I know and HBK comeback is highly unlikely but we are all expecting Austin back for WM30 so I think him and Punk would draw more. Or maybe thats just a personal point of view.
I was a huge Rock fan back in the day but I find him a bit boring now. Lesnar is amazing but he's on screen so sparingly it makes me lose interest.

I prefer watching Lesnar and think him not being on TV a lot helps, he's not been over exposed and when he turns up it feels like a big deal, it suits the character as well.

That said, The Rock is obviously the bigger draw, he's got a huge following outside of wrestling and brings that mainstream exposure Lesnar couldn't.

Usually I'd say put your top two draws against each other on the biggest show of the year, but I think it would do real damage to the perception of the 'normal' roster to have a main event featuring two acts who, by next year's Wrestlemania, will be a whole decade past the point of being full-time WWE wrestlers.

I think it would give the impression that the company had failed in the last ten years to create new stars of the same magnitude. That's why I think it's best to put them in separate matches against full-time opponents who can be portrayed as their equals.

I’m with you Gav, although the 2 names touted for Lesnar to face at WM30 are The Rock or The Undertaker, and it if is The Undertaker then it will also suggest the WWE have failed over the last 10 years. The fact that The Undertaker faced Shawn Michaels and Triple H 4 times in 4 years also fits in with this suggestion. Was CM Punk the first guy since Edge who wasn’t someone from the Attitude Era? It’s almost too hard to keep them all apart though. I expect 2 out of Rock, Brock, Taker and HHH will end up facing eachother at WM30 which is a real shame. They could easily book Rock vs Orton, Brock vs Punk, Taker vs Cena & HHH vs Bryan. That being said would I mark out to see Rock vs HHH one more time? Damn right I would.

These are the WM30 matches that would blow the roof off imo
CM Punk vs Stone Cold - Top of everyones wish list?
John Cena vs Undertaker - Cena finally turns heel and takes the streak
The Rock vs Daniel Bryan - Comedy gold and should be a good match
HHH, Orton + Batista vs The Sheild - Ultimate team?
Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle - Angle to return.

I like the idea of Evolution vs The Shield but I think The Shield will have disbanded by next April at the very latest.

Kurt Angle will have one more match in the WWE. I think that's a lock. He's openly said he's up for it. Angle vs Bryan would be something special.

First match I really have no interest in seeing that match. I don't think Austin was ever the best in the ring to begin with (guy had about 6 or 7 moves) and the fact he hasn't been active for years will only have a negative effect on that. I think the buikld up with the promos would be golden, but the match would be horrible to watch

Cena v Taker - is probably the only WM taker match I would watch and go into it thinking that the WWE might just have Taker lose the streak, this in itself would provide enough excitement to keep me entertained as I reckon Id be on the edge of my seat throughout

Shows how young I am... I read HHH, Orton + Batista and thought, why would that be the Ultimate team? Legacy was yonks ago. Don't come here with that. Though I must say, can't think of too many stables with over 40 World championships between them.
