Ashes T2: Lords, Starc and Cowans dropped
First topic message reminder :
Harris and Khwaja in.
Aus's bowling depth is so good that they can drop who was rated to be their top fast bowler without blinking an eyelid.

No chance of a follow on being enforced. Have to get four more for sixty yet anyway...and Australia's two best bats from Nottingham are in now

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
England will 100% bat again. Bat for a whole day, another session probably as well, leaving five sessions to get Australia out for c.500-550.
Definitely the right strategy.

Better to be stuck than 7 down I guess...sensible approach from Haddin and Agar. There's 3.3 days left of this Test, no need to rush things!JamesLincs wrote:3 runs in 6 overs since the wicket, aussies look stuck

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
Once upon a time, England went into a test with a number 10/11 (Caddick) and 3 genuine number 11s (giddins, Mullally and Tufnell).
Looks like Australia are trying the same thing - but why are they batting them at the top of the order?

Dear oh dear...
Australia's innings continues its descent into comedic chaos.
Agar goes for a run, Haddin doesn't move, Agar has to go back but is run out for just 2.
Aus now 96-7 and the end is surely nigh.
England will be batting again before too long.

I wonder if the similarities between Clarkus (so named because he is the emperor of a falling Roman empire) and Watto is as a result of how similar they seem to be.

As I thought really, Lehmann can get a reaction, and boost the energy and effort levels, but he can't make mediocre players good.

This is the worst Aussie team I can remember.
They've got no fight in them, they might as well go home now.

I can't remember the last time an England bowling attack so utterly dominated an opposing team, both in terms of stopping them scoring, as well as taking wickets.

10-0 is somewhat optimistic, but if the rain holds off, 5-0 really doesnt seem that unrealistic.

worst batting lineup yes.
Plenty of fight in the seam bowling department - much better than they were in the last two Ashes series.

Ive said it a few time now, this Oz batting line-up is worse than the one we rolled for 47. They are always a Clarkus fail from being rolled like a slick tyre

One of the more pathetic sessions I can remember.
How many batsmen will feel they got a particularly good ball?

Horrible listless show by Australia.
Now are there miracles possible from their last 3 wickets to take them anywhere from here ?

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
3 lots of rubbish posted on here or by ex-players after the first Test:
1) Bresnan is a trundler.
2) England are over-reliant on Anderson.
3) Australia are in the ascendancy/have momentum/will take more positives.
Well then:
1) 2/28 from Bresnan thus far.
2) Anderson hasn't taken any wickets yet, and England are still all over Australia.
3) That certainly explains why Australia are 96/7 in reply to England's 361 doesn't it?!
Absolutely loving this, please don't enforce the follow-on Cooky - England can bat and bat and inflict severe psychological damage to Australia.

Was going to post something similar.
Abject session from Aus - England bowled OK, but only a couple of the wickets were really down to good balls (Kawaja particularly). Our bowlers just did a good job of keeping the ball in the right areas and letting the Aussies get themselves out.
Probably the fliakiest Australian batting lien-up I can recall, and their weakest team since at least the late 80s.
You have to feel sorry for Ryan Harris - bowled really well with little support from the other 3 frontline bowlers, and then sees all his hard work undone by two hours of sloppy batting.

Well, that didn't take long. Siddle unable to repeat his first Test belligerence, is caught by Swann for just 2 and Anderson has his first wicket.
Aus now 104-8. Last rites being administered.

No Bres fifer
He does give the attack a nice balance, capable of bowling long tight spells.

Jimmy gets Siddle (one of his favourite bunnies) with the help of his pal Swann.

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
Is this summer going to be as rich and as plentiful as the summer of 2004 (England 3-0 New Zealand, England 4-0 West Indies), or the summer of 2011 (England 1-0 Sri Lanka, England 4-0 India)?

Nine out now ! Haddin swings hard...ball just lobs to Trott...

No gutsy 30-40 for Haddin this time around.
Swann gets his 4th victim, caught by Trott for just 7. Aus 104-9.

We should bring on KP at the other end so that Swanny can get his 5-for.

The way the Aussies have batted, they'd probably hole out off a KP long hop.
