KP Or King Viv
First topic message reminder :
I am old enough to have seen the great Viv Richards and of course the great Kevin Pietersen. When watching, I see some similarities, like the ability to dominate, take on the best fast bowlers and of course their records.
Now, some say Viv was the best since Bradman, but imo, like Pietersen, he was a little inconsistent at times, 1976 apart, and also got out in a arrogant type fashion.
This may sound like a nonsense question to some, but for me, they are pretty equal. So, who is the best between these two great batsmen?

I didnt even have the heart to correct him by telling him Kevin Pietersen coulda played for South Africa, not Africa. Bit like saying he is now representing Europe, not England now.

On another thread, he thought Czechoslovakia still existed!

I'm thinking Truss is a Viv over Pietersen man?

Re: KP Or King Viv
In my original post , I tried to show that Pietersen was a complex individual who, whilst not having imo Richards' ever present desire, still gave ''absolutely everything when he crossed the white line''. For anyone doubting that last comment, I hope you saw the fury etched all over Pietersen's face when given out this morning.

Can you imagine what Viv would have looked like if give out in similar fashion?
The phrase 'if looks could kill' would need some revision...

As Mike Holding (who gets far too much criticism on this forum) might say [you now have to think of his accent]:
''I cannot imagine what Vivian Richards would have looked like. But I will tell you this, Dummy. I know you would not have wanted to see that look.''

Sehwag's and Richard's test records are more comparable than KP's and Richards's. Sehwag has much higher strike rate (82) than Richards, and he is an opener; openers tend to have lower averages than middle order batsmen. I don't think either Richards or KP have proved they can score 8000 runs with a SR above 80.

Difficult to compare an opener with a middle order player. Sehwag was a great opener, but suffered against swing. Viv and Pietersen had/have no massive weakness.

Re: KP Or King Viv
Sehwag's strike rate is 82; KP's is 62; Viv's would also be around KP's. Swing bowling is only a "part" of the bowling art. You can also add KP's weakness against left arm spin. I don't buy the argument that KP does not have a weakness. Not being as consistent as someone like a Tendulkar or a Ponting, is in itself a sign of weakness.

As I said, hard to compare two different positions. Sehwag was a great opener, and comparable to say Hayden.
