Let slip the cats of war!

There is exactly one month until rugby action returns to Welford Road and defending Aviva Premiership champions Leicester Tigers will start the new campaign with more season ticket holders than ever before.
More than 14,500 supporters have already booked their places for every home game - starting with the pre-season fixture against Ulster Rugby on Saturday, August 31 (3pm) - a record going into a new campaign.
This is the second season in a row that Tigers have enjoyed record support at this time of year. It shows the level of support for director of rugby Richard Cockerill's men and the interest in matchdays at Welford Road.
There are very limited numbers of seats on the halfway line but there are still great seats available in other areas of Welford Road and, of course, places on the Terrace in the Holland & Barrett Stand.
There are also limited places in the new Try Line Club, a premium season ticket club in The Goldsmiths Stand.
Supporters in the Try Line Club can enjoy lounge surroundings pre-match and post-match as well as at half-time, and purchase from a fully stocked bar or our special Try Line Club menu as well as access to unlimited complimentary tea and coffee, and a free matchday programme and daily newspapers. They will also have direct access from the lounge to padded seats in the Goldsmiths Stand.
This new suite has a stylish club feel and offers the perfect setting for members to arrive earlier, stay later, and enjoy a full matchday experience.
With more than 14000 season tickets sold and the economy seemingly recovering, surely it's time to stick a finger up to the IRB and its rejection of WR as worthy of an RWC match by reviving the ground development to the planned 30000.
A quick glance of the ST pre-sales for the new season shows that 25 of the 27 seated blocks up for grabs, 25 are classified 'availability limited' or 'nearly sold out'.

Wasn't WR rejected on grounds of pitch size, rather than any other aspect? In which case you can grow WR to capacity of millions, but unless you sort out pitch dimensions, you're whistling dixie?

Re: Let slip the cats of war!
The pitch is easily comparable with the dimensions of grounds routinely used for International rugby.
Also the demolition of the Crumbie Stand would allow a metre or two for broadening the playing surface.
I'd like to see a comparison of WR and some of the footy pitches selected for RWC2015.

Re: Let slip the cats of war!
They were very clear about it. WR was rejected not for its pitch size but for the lack of space between the pitch and the stands. Basically there wasn't enough room to put all the things they needed pitchside in place and still have a safe, regulation-sized playing area.
Now, I'm not sure exactly what it is they need to put in, and why it's more than you need for, say, an HEC quarter final, but that's what they said.

This is of course all irrelevant as the 2015 bid has come and gone.
But looking forward, the completion of the WR vision would be welcome.

The RFU brought out a load of rubbish in their usual manner in order to give Tigers the finger. The Tom's aren't appreciated at HQ. Given that the top 3 sides in world rugby have all played at WR in the last three years is indication enough It's a suitable stadium. The thing about dead ball length etc was political posturing.
We're not ready for the big push yet. Car park behind the Crumbie first, one that's in and generating cash look at the Clubhouse end.

I didn't suggest a Big Bang, Sam.
Just a careful progression towards the vision.
Yep: The NCP car park has to come first to ameliorate at least the Royal Infirmary's problems (and to further stuff the club's coffers).

You've clearly never been to the King Power, the place is a soulless dump with insufficient beer and barely palatable food. I'm a City fan as well.

On current form, the RFU would also like to see a good deal more space between the pitch and Richard Cockerill.

Flame throwers and dancing girls I can just about put up with, it's blasting out music every time there's a lull in play that pisses me off.
When you say flame throwers, do you think we'd have got the gig if we got these guys to perform.

Re: Let slip the cats of war!
There is plenty of space on the Cat Stand side to fit in all the sponsorship bits, flame throwers, dancers (or at least a couple of Morris Men gurning in the corner ala RWC2011 games... God forbid) that the RFU would want for the RWC but the Crumbie side is practically on the touch line. There has long been criticism about the dugout placement from other teams & officials etc. But as has been pointed out in other posts... once the crumbie is demolished that will be rectified.

That would be fan-effin-tastic, have to be a proper sweaty old bloke though. Slobbering all over the camera. Fully oiled, obviously.

I certainly can't find any fault in that performance. Just have them in the middle of the pitch ready to greet the players as they run out...

Whilst bare footed, chewing on a stalk of straw and shaking his bells at every passer by.
What a horrific contribution to world culture we have given the world.
