John Conteh at 19. Behind Bruno. Behind Cooper.
He would have beaten Benn and Eubank in the same evening.
Might has well have stuck Matt Skelton on there for all the use that list has.

To be honest the minute you have a list of great brits without Wilde it becomes impossible to take it seriously. Also as you have said if you're going to include Fitz he has to be top. Also as I have argued many a time if you include Fitz you should really include Mclarnin.
Very, very poor list.

For what it is worth my top ten at the minute reads something like this.
1 Ted Kid Lewis
2 Wilde
3 Lennox Lewis
4 Freddie Welsh
5 Calzaghe
6 Driscoll
7 Buchanan
8 Moran
9 Conteh
10 Hamed
Caveat that if you include Fitz he is top of the pile and everyone else moves down a place.

What is the difference between the time Fitz spent over here and Lennox ????
and do you really think had Canada been a bigger sporting nation Lewis comes here ??
Fitz number 1 on my list.........Or Lewis and Fitz get excluded..

I'm claiming fitz and Lennox. Both born here. Good enough for me. Especially when you consider how dire the list looks without them.
Think the list compiler had a sense of humour, a few obvious omissions and a bare knuckle boy at number 1

Personally would not include a bareknuckle guy but putting one in and ignoring the likes of Mace and Mendoza just seems odd, as Truss has said smacks of trying to be clever/controversial.

Re: 20 greatest Brits of alltime - by the Bleacher report.
For me he was involved in more 'super fights' and fought the two best p4p fighters of his generation. Even though he lost.
he was also LWW champ having beaten some quality fighters and was also a two weight world champ.
he was also the highest draw we have had probably ever.
30 thousand fans in the us? His following was huge.
Naz, without doubt, was a class operator, but when he finally faced a genuine decent fighter of a high calibre, he lost. He then beat some Spanish bloke and retired.
Just lacked his potential which for me puts Hatton ahead.

Exactly Truss. Named was unified featherweight champ and beat some good named fighters, but against the top guys he came up short, even though it was just once. Had he fulfilled his potential, who knows what he could have done.

Mackenzie won a few belts after first winning the IBF title. Hatton won a belt against Tszyu (comparatively) quite late on in his career and I think a cynic can question the level of competition he beat from then on - maussa, urango, castillo, collazo, lazcano and malignaggi.

Re: 20 greatest Brits of alltime - by the Bleacher report.
Think there is something of a dismissal of how good Naz was in his day. Whilst I would not argue that his loss to Barrera and disappearance from the scene hurts him and he certainly does not have a stand out win to rank with Kostya he still did a lot in the game.
For a good three year period he was the premier featherweight in the world and whilst the likes of Vazquez, Johnson, Kelley and Medina were not as Kostya’s level they were good solid fighters with proven track records at the top level of the sport and Naz breezed through most with barely a blip along the way (Kelley being the obvious exception). Also worth remembering that governing body nonsense aside he unified the division.
Often think Naz suffers from a similar thing to Tyson, because he fell short of his potential or the levels folk were tipping for him he is sometimes given a rough ride but looked at objectively rather than against the expectation early in his career his achievements do not stack up too shabbily.

Mm8 would have to disagree with pretty much all of that assessment... its very one-eyed in my view.
Hatton fought 2 great fighters at their peaks... and they destroyed him. They were the only 2 fighters he fought that weren't either incredibly lucky, or past their best. He was brilliantly managed, and since when was a fan base indicative of the quality of a fighter? Credit for the Tszyu win, though he was nearly 36 and never fought again.
Naz lost his way post ingle and its hugely disappointing he didn't fight on, but he was still on his feet at the end against Barrera, and beat plenty of decent fighters if not any great ones.

He suffers from bully syndrome.....He didn't like it up him....Tyson did at least come back..........
Maybe Naz was smarter..........He was good but his exit left him open to criticism..Unfairly so perhaps..

How many Hatton 'wins' do you really rate.
For me Tszyu, Malignaggi and Collazo were world class wins. I don't see much after that. Not helped by being very incompetitve in his 2 biggest fights and I don't think anyone could say he was a technical boxer.

Re: 20 greatest Brits of alltime - by the Bleacher report.
Why would Hatton's fan base have any bearing his ranking?
That just makes him a more popular fighter than Hamed, not a better one. Both great salesmen in their own right. Hatton played the 'man of the people' role to perfection, backed by the footy crowd, whereas Naz went down the Mayweather/Broner route of being exceptionally boastful and cocky, hoping people turned up to watch him lose. The money roles in, whichever role you choose.
Hamed's record has far more substance to it than Hatton's, one exceptional win aside. If you think the Tszyu fight alone is worth more value than Hamed's consistency, then I can see why you rank him higher, but not for me.
Plus Hatton says 'ickle' which demotes him 5 places anyway.

The fact that you rate Hatton above others for 1 win over the p4p no.3. Wanted to know how Honeyghan's win over the p4p no.1 effects his rating.
