Tbh, I have nothing against speaking to a prisoner (current or former) but my issue is this is employment that should be provided to people out there on JSA etc.

This is exactly how I feel - asking prisoners to perform certain jobs for no, or very little pay, may not be an injustice per se. However, it further limits the opportunities available to job seekers. It's the same principle which ensured that Coalitions back to work scheme failed so spectacularly.TopHat24/7 wrote:Tbh, I have nothing against speaking to a prisoner (current or former) but my issue is this is employment that should be provided to people out there on JSA etc.
The government are certainly doing their best to save these companies as much money as is possible, even to the detriment of the general populous. If a person commits a crime, then surely, if he/she is to work, he/she ought to be asked to provide a service which will be of some benefit to society, as opposed to a service which is clearly designed to generate maximum surplus value for a large, privately owned company.
Companies should be made to hire candidates with full right to work and simply pay them a living wage to perform a job for which they are hired. Is this really too much to ask?

To be honest, the only benefit I see is if it gives prisoners some kind of training/skills that can be used once released to get a job and help reintegrate etc. This doesn't seem a good example of that to me......especially if all the jobs are going to those still in prison anyway!

They did this in the prison show Oz, didn't end well in that! In all seriousness I can't really imagine too many people being happy to discuss thier insurance information with someone who is serving time for who knows what.

Only a matter of time before one loses her rag with a customer and threatens to murder and mutilate
