The Bledisloe, The Ranfurly and the alternative Tom Taylor thread.
Just a few random thoughts before the weekend.
1. If Australia thought the drought between Bledisloes was a long one spare a thought for us long suffering Otago fans. If 11 years seems a long time then think again. Today Otago challenges Waikato for the Ranfurly Shield. The last time the shield was in Dunedin was in the 1950s. All (most) of my fellow kiwis have tasted success when it comes to the Ranfurly shield. C'mon Blue. Its time to end the misery.
2. Good luck to Tom Taylor at weekend. He seems like a good guy and he's a very able footballer too. Much like his dad (who also began his rugby in Dunedin) he is a no frills- do the job footballer. He is not " The latest legend to be unleased" as described by a fellow 606V2 poster. Give the guy a break and see how he does.
3. 100 test caps to Tony Woodcock at weekend. Still one of the best. You dont prop an ABs scrum for 10+ years and be average. He will always be remembered for "that try" in Oct 2011. I cant remember Woody ever tweeting about a toxic atmosphere!
4. Time to stop booing Quade. (Period!!!)
5. How did Highlanders just avoid wooden spoon? All 5 starters from highlanders in last weeks test were quality performers.
6. Ma'a shouldnt play SXV next year. A couple of games for Oriental Rongatai and then into Abs. Predicting big season for Ma'a again. Gr8 test footballer. Would have loved him to square off against Jamie Roberts, again, at the end of year.
7. Again! Go Blue. Common Otago. Put me out of my misery!

Just 100 so far Laurie. Hopefully tomorrow will be 101.
Gunner I'm surprised it's been such a drought for Otago. As a Southern man and one who prefers Speights you have my sword and my axe for the game.
100 tests for a prop is a great achievement.
Here's hoping for a memorable weekend for all southerners including Taylor.

After 83 minutes 30 seconds:
Otago 26, Waikato 19, the shield goes to Dunedin for the first time since 1957.

TJ Ioane is a star in the making I think.
An abrasive flanker who seems to command the gain line in attack and defence. Interesting prospect.

No he was saying Australia has to wait as long as Otago did before they next win the Bledisloe.

Is the Mikkelson for Waikato the same one who captains the NZ Sevens?

Well done gunner- knew youd pop up for this one. I did think the try before half time was a little off the pass marginally forward at best and more momentum - the type allowed usually. In the end that made the diff had the kick gone over. But the mooloos still had a half to redeem them selves and couldnt so well deserved.
Who's challenging next?

ha ha...who would know...well done... again. Still recall chippie semenoff beating Manawatu then denying Southland and Otago the final challenges in 1979 by throwing the rule book at them. Didnt think it would be that long before they got the thing finally...
