Basically, what it says on the tin.
What are your favourite lyrics? The ones that speak to you the most? Or just the ones that you think or effin' great!
1 A rainy night in Soho- The Pogues
"Some of them fell into heaven. Some of them fell into hell" Love Shane McGowan. Just a pity he drank himself to incoherence.
2 Badlands- Bruce Springsteen
"Poor man wanna be rich. Rich man wanna be king. And the King ain't satisfied till he rules everything." Dome of my favourite Springsteen lyrics but not one of my favourite songs.
3 Lyin' eyes- The Eagles
"City girls just seem to find out early how to open doors with just a smile. "
Just the song in general is well written but the opening line is class!
Over to you's anyway or I'll just end ip continuing on with a monologue.

I’m not the world’s most physical guy, but when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine. – R Davies
My girlfriends run off with my car and gone back to her ma and pa, telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty – R Davies
Nobody tells a story through song like Ray Davies
But just to keep you happy Boss will put this one forward from one of my favourite Springsteen songs
Well they closed down the auto plant in Mahwah late that month, Ralph went out lookin' for a job but he couldn't find none

I wish today could be tomorrow,
The night is dark,
It just brings sorrow anyway.
Days
Have absolutely no idea what it means but always thought the lyrics to Days were absolutely brilliant. Such a beautiful song.

Basically the whole of Town called Malice.
"Town Called Malice"
Better stop dreaming of the quiet life
'Cos it's the one we'll never know
And quit running for that runaway bus
'Cos those rosey days are few
And...stop apologising for the things you've never done
'Cos time is short and life is cruel
But it's up to us to change
This town called Malice
Rows and rows of disused milk floats
Stand dying in the dairy yard
And a hundred lonely housewives
Clutch empty milk bottles to their hearts
Hanging out their old love letters on the line to dry
It's enough to make you stop believing
When tears come fast and furious
In a town called Malice
Struggle after struggle, year after year
The atmosphere's a fine blend of ice
I'm almost stone cold dead
In a town called Malice
A whole street's belief in Sunday's roast beef
Gets dashed against the co-op
To either cut down on beer or the kids' new gear
It's a big decision in a town called Malice
The ghost of a steam train echoes down my track
It's at the moment bound for nowhere
Just going 'round and 'round
Playground kids and creaking swings
Lost laughter in the breeze
I could go on for hours and I probably will
But I'd sooner put some joy back
In this town called Malice

"Demand the Impossible" by MISERY INDEX
Each man can make a difference in life
If someone would even try
As each of us lies rotting dead
Our ideals will never die
One man can start this fire
Another can feed the flames
All of the rest can forward the line
Let bourgeoise culture burn itself alive
Our frustration, give it to them, together as one
What we have, is all that it takes
To prosecute the enemy in time
The pessimism breeds and the nihilism feeds
On the apathy we're fed throughout our lives
One chance to fight together, one chance to tear this world apart
Power's derived in numbers
And numbers is what we have
Yet we complain and choose to abstain
When we could be fighting back
Vultures will encirlce,
With propaganda streams
Laying the bait and plotting the course
As our human spirits die of thirst
Our frustration, give it to them, together as one
What we have, is all that it takes
To prosecute the enemy in time
The pessimism breeds and the nihilism feeds
On the apathy we're fed throughout our lives
This is why we're living
For spirit life and blood
As sure as the sun will bury the night
We will feed our appetite
Humanity's a weapon
Each life's a sharpened blade
But we're hammered dull til nothing is left
And fed on bread and circuses to death
Our frustration, give it to them, together as one
What we have, is all that it takes
To prosecute the enemy in time
The pessimism breeds and the nihilism feeds
On the apathy we're fed throughout our lives
One chance to fight together, one chance to tear this world apart
To climb up off your knees
And fight for something real
Out into the streets and ruined cities they will come
The bane of their existence fueled on battles that they soon will win
With colours running black and red on hope for future days
A call forever heard into the night...VIE VICTIS

My Dad was introduced to Howard Jones in a pub back in the mid 80's when he was famous (not my Dad). My Dad didn't have a clue who he was, but asked him if he still managed Everton (Howard Kendall). It wouldn't have been that bad, if they looked alike.

My favourite lyrics are:
"Was that love in your eyes I saw, or the reflection of mine?"
Amazing lyric and really heartfelt.
Also like lyrics to the whole song of Save Me by Queen

There's a comment goes something along the lines that 50% of men in the 1970s had a secret crush on Felicity Kendall. The other 50% didn't keep it secret.DAVE667 wrote:I believe at one stage it was illegal not to. There is an old song by Ocean Colour Scene that came to mind whilst watching the news last night. It's called Profit in Peace and the lyrics are pretty relevant to the modern Western attitude to war. Apparently it was written in 1999 but if you didn't know it, you would be forgiven for thinking it was written post 2001.
All the people under broken homes
Don't wanna fight no more
All the people nursing shattered bones
Don't wanna fight no more
But there's no profit in peace
So we've gotta fight some more
And all these who are in foreign lands
Don't wanna fight no more
And all those who lost their feet or hands
Don't wanna fight no more
But there's no profit in peace boys
We gotta fight some more
All the people under broken homes
Don't wanna fight no more
All the people nursing shattered bones
Don't wanna fight no more
But there's no profit in peace
So we've gotta fight some more
And all these who are in foreign lands
Don't wanna fight no more
And all those who lost their feet or hands
Don't wanna fight no more
But there's no profit in peace boys
We gotta fight some more

Did you ask him what he thought of David Cameron's attempts to make the same mistakes that Western leaders have been making for centuries?
A girl here at work has met Paul Weller. Said he was one of the most miserable musicians she has bumped into and I get the impression she has met a few. Can you confirm if he is miserable or not?

To be honest only met him briefly as we were on our way back to our room. Got a photo and whilst he was not exactly cheery he was alright, made a bit of small talk etc.
Did not ask anyone their opinions on Cameron. To be honest what was discussed is all a little vague. Couldn't really understate how drunk I was by the end of the evening.

Re: Favourite lyrics Thread
Been drinking with ENTOMBED (Swedish Death Metal legends - Left Hand Path is one of my favouite albums of all time). They used to play Bradford quite regularly and played one Wednesday which was generally student night and I'm sure some of you can imagine the kind of music played after the bands finished. Sight of the night has to be watching LG Petrov (vocals) dancing to House of Pain's "Jump Around" to the bemusement of students and his bandmates. Think their video for "Night of the Vampire" shows LG running naked on Blackpool beach...mad as a box of boiled badgers that fella.
Anyway, fav lyrics "What man has created, man can destroy, bring to light, that day of joy" ( The aforementioned ENTOMBED)

I once talked about golf with Raymond McGinley from Teenage Fanclub. He likes playing on municipal courses because you can generally get away with wearing denim.
Brown was PM at the time so I didn't get a chance to ask him about Cameron and the situation in Syria.

This is a beauty (Jarvis Cocker):
It's just like in the old days - I used to compose my own critical notices in my head.
The crowd gasps at Cocker's masterful control of the bicycle
Skilfully avoiding the dog turd next to the corner shop.
Imagining a blue plaque above the place I first ever felt a girl's breasts,
the whole 'nana.
You've got to wait for the best.
You see you should take me seriously. Very seriously indeed.
Cause I've been sleeping with your wife for the past sixteen weeks
Smoking your cigarettes, drinking your brandy,
messing up the bed you chose together.
And in all that time I just wanted you to come home unexpectedly one afternoon
And catch us at it in the front room.
You see I spy for a living and I specialise in revenge
On taking the things I know will cause you pain.
I can't help it, I was dragged up.
My favourite park's a car park, grass is something you smoke,
birds is something you shag.
Take your year in Provence and shove it right up your arse.

I was once told to be quiet by the bass player from Danny Wilson (they sang Mary's Prayer and were a bit of a one hit wonder) in a pub in Dundee. He was working his way through an accoustic set with his new band. A couple of years later he was beaten up by his wife and I was ultimately vindicated.Rowley wrote:God knows I love the Fannies super but that is the second time you have used your McGinley anecdote in two days, may need to find another tenuous rock star related anecdote to add to your arsenal.

Lucky that my breasts are small and humble
So you don't confuse them with mountains

I pledge no allegiance, n***a f**k the president's speeches
I'm baptized by America and covered in leeches
The dirty water that bleaches your soul and your facial features
Drownin' you in propaganda that they spit through the speakers
And if you speak about the evil that the government does
The Patriot Act'll track you to the type of your blood
They try to frame you, and say you was tryna sell drugs
And throw a federal indictment on n****z to show you love
This sh*t is run by fake Christians, fake politicians
Look at they mansions, then look at the conditions you live in
All they talk about is terrorism on television
They tell you to listen, but they don't really tell you they mission
They funded Al-Qaeda, and now they blame the Muslim religion
Even though Bin Laden, was a CIA tactician
They gave him billions of dollars, and they funded his purpose
Fahrenheit 9/11, that's just scratchin' the surface

Dylan-wise, I love the narrative quality of Simple twist of fate and Black diamond bay.
In terms of rap, Nas' NY state of mind contains the line 'I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death', which could be Shakespeare. Life's a bitch is also brilliant.

Bruce hornsby and the range...........The way it is............
Well they passed a law in 64
To give those who ain't got a little more
But it only goes so far
Because a law don't change anothers mind
when all it sees at the hiring time
Is the line of the color bar..
That's just the way it is
Some things will never change
That's just the way it is..
Ah but don't you believe them..................
wonderful stuff..
Well they passed a law in 64
To give those who ain't got a little more
But it only goes so far
