2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
First topic message reminder :
Four days left of the transfer window and still Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle still aren't moving quickly. The Bale deal still hasn't gone through, there is still speculation that Real Madrid may go back in for Suarez and Arsenal could break the transfer record. Tottenham have also decided to sign everybody.
Available at the moment seems to be a list of the players who were the best in the world five years ago:
Kaka
Fernando Torres
Samuel Eto'o (until yesterday)

Get ready to watch a big bulky, sulky petulant kid play for your team. He'll spend more time on his arse and complaining about stuff that actually trying to score goals. Although to be fair to him, he did improve slightly last season so you never know.

I'd rather have spent nothing, like Kinnear did, than have Anichebe. I'm sure your maths calculations are right but the stats 18 goals in 36 games for him just make me laugh. It's a terrible, horrifying signing and easily one of, if not, the worst in this window.

My hope is that with:
Anelka + Long + Vydra + Rosenberg + Berahino + Sessegnon + Sinclair + Amalfitano + Anichebe
That we play:
----------- Anelka
Sinclair - Sessegnon - Amalfitano
------ Yacob - Mulumbu
With Long, Vydra and Berahino on the bench. I never want Anichebe to play for us.

At least you didn't get rid of Long, getting rid of him and bringing in Anichebe would have been even worse. Salvation can be found in that.

Just copied these four comments off another forum by everton fans-
1.Anichebe is absolutely terrible, and your club has been swindled.
2.Your groundsman is going to be a busy boy. Vic slaps the turf that much that the Hawthornes will resemble the Somme after a couple of games.
3.I think you'll see him sold to a Championship club within two years.
4.Ball to feet, turn and shoot, off target
Ball to feet, turn and shoot, defender blocks
Ball to feet, turn and shoot, keeper saves

Long's not been the same player since Liverpool were rumoured to be after him last season. He's been woefully inept ever since, and I was gutted we couldn't recoup £5m for him.

I was confused by this aswell, especially in those last few frantic hours but there are numerous sources stating United did indeed make a bid of around £36m for Khedira. I dread to think what was going down in the conference rooms inside Old Trafford last night. Woodward just pressing random panic buttons, sending off bids, left right & centre and then directing the representatives to Bognor instead of Bilbao to conclude a deal. I still can't get over that 'imposter' story. What a night. The Terror of Tylorstown wrote:Think it's safe to say that we haven't bid for Khedira

I think it's going to be some time before United know themselves what on earth happened:
- Baines + Fellaini bids
- Overpaying on Fellaini
- Buttner / no Buttner involved
- Herrera and all the complications over tax, release clauses etc
- Herrera and the mystery fraudsters
- Khedira and the phantom bid
- Coentrao and the failed loan offer
- Fabregas shenanigans
- Why no Ozil
- Why no Willian
- Thiago shenanigans
The list goes on. What a shambles of a window that was for them.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
I've read that letter. It started off well and then it descended into a rant which was pretty disappointing. Maybe I'm missing something major here but all the signs point towards Woodward screwing up. I think it was a bit of a poor show for both Fergie and Gill to go at the same time but never mind, what's done is done. I'm not going to call for anyone's head but as a fan I want answers as to what went wrong in the window. I suppose we'll never know.
It feels weird because as a United fan, I've never seen anything like this happen. The club's handled transfers really well for as long as I remember, I suppose the club had it coming eventually!!

I think every United fan pretty much sees Woodward as the problem (and rightly so). It doesn't help either that he's that close to the Glazers he's pretty much untouchableThe Special Juan wrote:I've read that letter. Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
The bids for Baines, De Rossi and Fabregas don't necessarily bother me but it's the failure or lack of ambition to go after Thiago and Ozil when they were clearly available that bothers me. Whether that's down to Moyes or somebody else I don't know but we could have got the pair for £60mil and look at the midfield we would have had, Carrick, Thiago, Rooney and Ozil would be able to pass most teams off the park. Thiago would have been the trickier of the two as it's up in the air who he would have chosen but to not follow through on the interest for the sake of £18mil is mind blowing. As for Ozil, the moment Arsenal had a bid accepted we should have hijacked it there and then, plain and simply he would have chosen us no two ways about it but again nothing doing.
We could have ended up with two of Ozil, Thiago or Herrera quite easily but instead we have none of them but instead Fellani. I have no issues with that signing he's a good player who adds a bit of bite to the midfield but with all the commercial revenue, prize money, increased tv revenue we surely must have been able to spend £83mil.
Not only the incoming players but bizarrely i've heard Nani is set to sign a new contract and Anderson is still at the club, were money an issue we could have got players like them off the wage bill and recouped a fair chunk at the same time.
There are a lot of people accountable for this, seeming lack of communication between Moyes and Woodward as well as incompetence on the part of the latter and whoever let Gill leave at the same time as Ferguson. I have sympathy for Moyes as I believe a lot of this has been out of his control but I get the impression he could have been more vocal and persuasive with his transfer targets.

Agree with nearly everything said, but Felliani was a panic buy, he wasn't even 1st choice. Imo Ozil is the type of player Utd need and Felliani is the type of player Arsenal could have done with. The Terror of Tylorstown wrote:The bids for Baines, De Rossi and Fabregas don't necessarily bother me but it's the failure or lack of ambition to go after Thiago and Ozil when they were clearly available that bothers me.
