Hughie Fury Vs Shane McPhilbin
Just seen this fight on Boxrec, seems to be under the radar. Happening on the 14th September. This should be a decent test for Hughie provided Shane comes in shape.

Decent test?
Drawn his last match and lost the previous 5 according to Boxrec. Now I'm not taking that as gospel, but thats hardly a test.

Was more in relation to the names he has fought in his career so far. Almost every other fighter has had double figure loses as well as not being in with the same level of opposition as McPhilbin (not that as past it Enzo Mac is some kind P4P king). I just thought considering who he has fought so far, it was a decent step up in opposition, as well as being a name that most boxing fans know. I hope after this fight he continues this step up.

A test would be someone like Chisora or dare I say it - Harrison. This guy is an unknown who loses all the time. If he was a known who loses all the time, it would be a test because he would have had something remarkable in his career to make it so, if he was an unknown who won all the time then again, thats a test. All we have here is a guy who lost to a Cruiserweight.

Shane ain't really a natural Heavyweight, and he's only got a few rounds in him in any case. Everything - size, speed, class (restrain yourself, Dave!), power etc - is with Hughie in this one and I expect him to win without too much trouble.
Fury by stoppage in four or five rounds.

Hughie Fury has had no more than a handful of fights. Let him learn his profession before throwing him in with anyone really dangerous or experienced. Let him fight regularly and build up experience and confidence. Plenty of time in two or three years to step up.

Said to STRONGBCK that stick Hughie in with the kindof garbage that even the jourmenymen would turn their noses up at, isn't going to give him the experience he needs. Bung him in with some old warhorse like Skelton and see how he handles being roughed up and mauled a bit.bhb001 wrote:Hughie Fury has had no more than a handful of fights. Good comeback fight for Price and a step up for Fury to see if he's got what it takes. If he loses, he's young enough to come back...didn't do Haye any harm when he lost to Thompson who was a damn sight for seasoned than Price is right now.

it harmed haye massively. (i'd also argue it helped though) but it took him another 3 years or so to get a world title shot. he could have cleaned up far earlier.DAVE667 wrote:Said to STRONGBCK that stick Hughie in with the kindof garbage that even the jourmenymen would turn their noses up at, isn't going to give him the experience he needs. Disagree entirely, it taught Haye that he couldn't rely soley on power to get the job done and that as the calibre of his opposition improved, he'd need to as well. He went away and got his act together and became a better fighter as a result.OasisBFC wrote:it harmed haye massively. Fighting the way he did without any thought for the ability of his opposition, Haye was going to suffer a heavy loss akin to Cleverley and others who haven't been chucked in with your tough nuts like Thomspon.
Do we want our fighters padding out their records with dross or do we want out fighters in tough learning fights that can only make then buck their ideas up?

would rather he fought anyone other than that muppet Shane. hasn't he embarrassed himself enough. I guess he brings a bit of name recognition having stunk out more than one joint. expect him to run away and hide his head under the wropes, argue with the ref for letting Hughie punch him, then quit. afterwards he will pretend to be tough by picking a fight with the audience and hide behind the security. that's what he did last time I had the displeasure of watching him.

Re: Hughie Fury Vs Shane McPhilbin
Fury is fighting every two weeks so every opponent can't be top notch. Peter says he will have 24 fights in his first year gradually moving up the standard of opposition. He's 9 fights into the program so there is a bit to go yet. Until he gets to British title level nobody knows if he's any good. He has looked decent in what he's done so far but time will tell. Does the fundamentals better than Tyson and is more disciplined.
