Encouraging from him, I think he may some way ahead of Wilson. Nice competition though!GeordieFalcon wrote:Yeah but.you've got.the worse conditions first half....will have the wind with you next.

Sorry yes, not Davey. Hope Eastmond is alright, really rate him. These sort of conditions really don't help England when it comes to attrition rate.Bathite wrote:You lot talking about Scott Wilson I take it?

Don't think we will be challenging sarries tigers, but like to think we could mix it with Quins saints and challenge for top 4

Not the weather to show off but we've shown very little here sadly. I think they'll be easier packs to play but still not too encouraging. I thought these conditions might suit Godman. I know he's behind a beaten pack, but if he can't perform in these sorts of games I'm not sure what he's going to offer.

Strain was a poor sub. Perenise is a woeful scrummager and it's horrible watching him get the upper hand.

It really is apparent when the hooker strikes isn't it? Our scrum just about holds Bath to that point and then we fold.

Well...I expected a loss...I.think Bath will put 40-50 points on some teams this season. I thought the one area we'd be.ok was the physicality...the.fact we didn't concerns me...

Re: Newcastle v Bath
Well done Bath, comprehensive in the end. Not great to watch but in the second half with the wind they played a better tactical game and that and the extra power was enough.
Given the conditions you can't gain much of an insight other than that Bath's pack is VERY big and in similar conditions will be very tough for anyone to break down, but then they were last year as well. I'm not convinced by their coaching set-up, so it'll be interesting to see how they play in better conditions - will their pack be mobile enough to get quick ball? Louw will certainly help. Similarly, will their backs be inventive? I'd have loved to have seen what Meehan could do with this pack!
For us, who knows. It's going to be a tough season, but then we knew that. Probably missing a heavy duty carrier in the backrow and the backs. We'll also need a better line-out to survive. If Brookes can be kept fit and last 80 mins, we may have a top TH in the loose at least.
I think our backs will be the issue. Godman? No thanks.

Re: Newcastle v Bath
Very impressed by Garvey both in workrate and impact. The Bath squad looks very competitive in all positions with Abendanon, Biggs, Agulla plus Louw and Fearns and some argentine front rowers too all coming into the equation at some point.
Also looking forward to seeing the young english backrow trio of Ovens, Mercer and Sisi, probably in the LV.
Newcastle will get better, they have too much experience in key positions not too and with Richards and Wells lurking in the background.

Re: Newcastle v Bath
So that's the same number of away wins as last season already!
Pleased to see the pack put in a decent shift, attwood and Garvey look like they should combine well together.
I can't believe Deano will let Newcastle be nilled again, although letting Goperforth leave looks like a mistake.

Re: Newcastle v Bath
It's a mighty squad alright. I really do think that top 4 should be a minimum requirement, and I'd be frustrated if i were a Bath fan and it didn't happen. Just hope that a) players gets enough time to develop in build partnerships and b) Ford Sr doesn't squeeze the creativity out of the backs.Recwatcher wrote:Very impressed by Garvey both in workrate and impact. Garvey's workrate is brilliant, really want to see him at lock though and getting back to focusing on carrying and hitting the line at pace. I don't think he's an England 6, i DO think he could be an England lock.

No Doc...not Rob...just a decent experienced guy...but I honestly cant see how he is picked with performances like that when we have young Joel Hodgson on the bench.
Id FAR rather give the young lad with potential the game time than an old has been whos playing attrociuous.
Even for all his inexperience Joel would have used the conditions better....and has way more spark ball in hand...

Re: Newcastle v Bath
Disappointed with Friday , not so much the result although i thought we would of pushed for a losing bonus point. The fact we failed to score a point at home is something to be embarrassed by for any club.
We didn't create any clean cut chances and lacked direction in the backs. Peter Russell will have a plan of attack for the backs but we didn't play the conditions at all. We can say that the conditions affected us but Bath played in them as well and scored 21 points.
Thought the lineout was OK , Scrum we looked off at the engage but had a decent 2nd shove.
Phil Godman is a good 10 when he wants to be.
