Newcastle vs Bath
I'll admit I'm mainly on Burgess watch here. He's managed a turnover but sod's law has already come into play as Devoto scored the game's first try from Sam's usual position of inside centre. Ford delivered a sweet pass from an attack close to the Falcons' line.

Re: Newcastle vs Bath
If Burgess could have held a pass, he was through to score. It was recycled out to the wing but the subsequent try was disallowed after a review determined that the ball was knocked on.

Pretty impressive so far better than his centre appearances. 1 inadvised offload and a touch unlucky in the knock on for me.

Newcastle looked like taking a 13-12 lead into half time but Watson has just gone over for Bath's 3rd try.

Good game so far. Burgess looks far more suited to the role much busier even clearing up at set pieces. Early days obviously but I want to see himm ore at 6 than12 after those 40 min.

What's happening. Are we playing better than the last few outings?

Re: Newcastle vs Bath
I'm not sure whether Bath were really sharp or Falcons' defence was poor ... a great try by Sinoti though.

Re: Newcastle vs Bath
Sinoti's try was definitely one of the best finishes you'll see this year. I didn't think Falcon's played badly but it did look too easy for Bath to score - even when Falcons took the lead it felt like Bath would score more. Falcons had chances though and it could have been a closer finish.

Re: Newcastle vs Bath
I thought the scoreline as it was actually flattered Falcons as they created bugger all.
sinotti scored a grand try, running round Louw, Garvey and Roku - abd the scrum went well. Other than that desperately poor service from both PI scrum halves, poderous passing in midfield and no sharpness in the running. Sinotti went looking for work, but far too often (try excepted) he would jump, sway both ways then run into the nearest defender. Hammersley was unable to catch a cold.
Bath will be worried about their set piece. Driven off a couple of scrums and some serious overthrows at the lineout.

Re: Newcastle vs Bath
Lovely try from Sinotti - could watch that over and over. Nothing else from Newcastle though.
Perhaps it's easy to let expectations get a bit high for Burgess. IMO he did OK, considering first outing at back row at this level. Nothing special at all and nothing any other pro 6 wouldn't have done.
I'm beginning to see Burgess as a pretty good union player who will play top level for as long as he stays fit. However, I'll stick my neck out and say I don't think he'll play for England unless a deep run of injuries force the coaches hand.

Re: Newcastle vs Bath
The stats they showed for burgess when he went off were a lot better than i expected from watching. At the time was joint highest tackler, had secured 3 turnovers I think and was carrying to far more effect than he had as a centre. Certainly he looks a much better back rower than back.

Re: Newcastle vs Bath
Falcons 9 was pretty terrible, I though he killed most of the attacking positions they got into.
