Anyone watching? Not a bad start from both sides - great scrum from the O's early on, but unfortunately Andrew Bishop has just been binned. Treviso get a penalty after ten minutes. They did attempt a drop goal earlier but it went wide. Will this be history repeating for the O's and they lose their first season game to Treviso again?

Penalty against King coming up - TMO just checking it and agrees. Why I don't know because the touch judge pointed it out when nothing happened. Very odd. Jayz, this really does slow a game doesn't it?

The ball needs to go dead or Treviso could equalize if they get a bydi try! I'd be happy with a penalty.

The scrums were a complete mess, ref was poor in this area and the vidoe ref was a joke.

Re: Treviso v Ospreys - Pro12 07/09/13 Match Thread
Really weird TMO incident - touch judge calls a penalty for pulling back against the O's. The ref goes to the TMO and the video shows no pull back. However, the TMO says he's happy to go with the ref (who didn't see it) so had to go with the original touch judge call, so a penalty is still awarded even though the video showed no offence. Wtf?! What's the point of the TMO then. Really amateurish skills there from the officials. Didn't help that they were from the home nation either, as accusations of bias will be intensified.

True that Wales. Last season we lost to them and before that we only managed a draw away to them so this will please the boys.
I'm wondering if the TMO just couldn't be arrsed to watch the footage and just agreed with the touch judge? Didn't see any shirt pulling on the playback.

I think it was more to do with the fact that the TMO was Italian, the biased reffing in this league is already pizzing me off and i't only the first weekend.

I must say this blaming the officials thing is a breath of fresh air after the Lions debacle.

Like clock work, Cyril is here to spread warmth to the thread. However, seeing as no-one has blamed anyone for anything then you're once again wide of the mark. Pointed out an error/anomaly yes, but blame? No. Blame for what? An away win???

Quite, Griff. It's like ghostie complaining about the ref in the NZ win.

Cari; what you think? Wasn't massively impressed with Tibaldi. His kicking was pretty good but not much else, our back line didn't help him much mind. Maybe I'm being over critical.

Lord, I've still got Kahn first season in my mind. Me and the Mrs sitting in the east stand shouting "don't kick!". At least Tibaldis were within running distance. Maybe he'll get better? I was hoping to see Habberfield this season

Edited after reading Ospreys Forum
I'm sick of this thread already, and supposed Ospreys supporters, if you went on on our Forum you would already know as a a scrum half half he is not as good as KF, but better as a kicker, on a poll last season KF was the best sh we have had with J Marshall next J Spice next with M Phillips R Webb and J Nutbrown a long way behind, is it the fact that the best 3 are NOT WELSH that irks everyone for god's sake give the man a chance the kick for Ben Johns try was absolutely perfect. After reading the Ospreys forum who was one of the 2 players that Steve Tandy COMMENDED tonight Tito Tebaldi so shall we stop this slagging off before the season has even started properly.

What did you change butty? The Tandy bit? I acknowledge his kicking is good and it does go with our current game plan/ strength but it would be nice to have a plan B. We have seen before what happens when we are equalled or bettered up front and we cannot rely on that dominance.

A win is a win and yes a marked improvement on last year where we let Treviso into games we were controlling.
Not bad considering most of the hard work was done with our second choices.
Very impressed with Ben John and Sam Lewis.

Sam Lewis looked as if he'd been in a boxing match. Will be nice to see Ben John get a run of games not seen him build up a run of steam, he's a big lad.

Baldwin and King were great too.
One player I still see as a liability is Richard Fussell. At his best he can be handy but 90% of the time he looks miles out of his depth at fullback. Especially in defence.

Hard fought win v a strong Treviso side. Agree that the squad players did well. Baldwin, lewis, King. A decent start should get their confidence going. tito did well I thought. His box kicking is immense tbh. I do like Fuss at full back but its frustrating when he starts off on a run then stutters then gets inevitably enveloped and loses momentum. He's got the pace, just wish he'd use it....

Re: Treviso v Ospreys - Pro12 07/09/13 Match Thread
This one was probably the worst game of the weekend for me. Ref was consistent, but became a bit too pedantic and that didn't help. The team looked pretty unorganised and vulnerable. I believe that problem will sort itself out once the top players get some game time together. The backs still look pretty poor and Biggar needs to figure out something apart from the up n under. Tito was good. The centre's looked confused at times but each of them have been off rugby before the last season ended. I think they'll eventually gel and should perhaps switch around (Bishop to 12 and Beck to 13). Back 3 is still light as you're still playing scrum-halves and centres out there. Fussell is still rubbish as ever, a total liability and I really do not know how he keeps his place in the starting team.

lol, just noticed Beck was 12 and Bishop 13. Def should swap as Bish can do the hard yards well. Beck is wasted at I/C. Agree our back play looks disjointed. Hopefully with more games, we'll see more cohesion.

When we have Ross Jones available it makes no sense at all that a winger converted to Fullback would be preferable. The Saint wrote: Fussell is still rubbish as ever, a total liability and I really do not know how he keeps his place in the starting team.

I'm not sure I've seen enough of Ross at this level to judge, but he's probably a lot better than Fussell.

IIRC they swapped a lot, in the 2nd half Bish kicked down near their 22 the ball landed about a yard inside the field he was in the 12 channel for that one, we tried a flowing backs move where Beck was smashed by Luke McLean, on that occasion Beck was in the 13 channel, those 2 are off the top of my head. I think the 4 points we got yesterday will be viewed very favourably come the end of the season, all according when they play the top 3 from last season. By all accounts quite a few of their first team squad did not have any pre season playing time and the teams they did play were Italian teams a level below them.

Though to be fair Treviso looked like they re-started where they left off last season. They have such resilience at home and were building self confidence away last year too.
It would be unfair to consider either team a finished article in their first match, and as we said earlier the Referee deserves a fair appraisal.
