The Featherweights
Having seen the flyweight tournament go untouched thought i'd chuck it to one side and get on with a more interesting division instead namely the featherweights. You know the drill top 8 of all time in the division in no particular order.

In that case I'd like to find a place for wilfredo gomes. Does it have to be 8?

Hmmm, its tricky due to fighters that have graced there and the crossovers. Getting a bit hazy on what wins for certain fighters came at superbantam/feather/superfeather.

Disagree with you to a degree there Chris but will leave that debate for when it becomes more relevant

Yeah there's an argument Pep was past his best for much of their fights.

I like the look of Windy's list but may be tempted to get rid of either Dundee or Arguello for Terry McGovern, could bring some fun to proceedings

Re: The Featherweights
Im surprised Morales hasnt got more mentions to be honest. Think his only loss at superbantam/feather is to Barrera. Has plenty of good wins at those weights.
Just shows the quality in the division I guess.

I thought about McGovern, jeff, but I decided to save him ( and also George Dixon, ) for the bantams.

Can see where you're coming from just liked the idea that somewhere along the line Saddler could be paired up against Terry. To be honest I was having all on fighting the temptation to put Naz in, but feared I was setting myself up for a coxy style Tunney Jones meltdown

Yes, I believe discretion should certainly be the better part of valour, there. Tell you what, though, I never thought about Saddler v McGovern. Good Lord above, what a scrap that would have been !

Actually don't see how Saddler would win this tournament, too many guys i'd favour over him head to head.

Re: The Featherweights
Atom, think you will find as you move up the weights they will become more popular, a lot of people, myself included, knowledge of the lower weights ain't great, and with the modern trend for weight jumping the lower weights tend to be stacked towards old timers. The series will lead to some cracking debates and arguments in the higher weight classes. However I implore you do not match Roy Jones with Tunney under any circumstances

Re: The Featherweights
I thought i'd give the lower weights a go but alas it was not to be, possibly also the two divisions where there is a clear almost undeniable number one who most would pick to win. Agreed though, my knowledge below featherweight is almost non existent and to this day I have no interest in any fights happening in the lower divisions.
Well depends how it goes Jeff, can't remember the Tunney Jones debate and fear were I around i'd have sided quite vocally with Coxy on that one, the lightweights is where it will all kick off even here we have some interesting potential match ups and I for one expect a lot of grief for one prediction i'll make.

I'm warning Azania right now if Pep and Saddler get paired together I'm re-writing history. Pep is one of my top 3 favourite fighters he will be winning.

Re: The Featherweights
May I enquire as to the nature of the list?
Is it intended to be the greatest featherweights? Or ones that offer exciting match ups? Or personal favourites?

In the past it's been a bit of a mixture. The greatest but with a view to excluding those that have already met in the ring as much as possible, as well as trying to get a bit of variety of styles.Colonial Lion wrote:May I enquire as to the nature of the list?

Saddler would break his legs before KOing him.

Probably tear his arms off and beat him with it instead of just ripping it out the socket.

A very solid looking 8 there, would have been nice to have some more modern representation.

Re: The Featherweights
Think it might be a trend for all them if i'm honest, there was a combined two votes for pre 1990 boxers which is very surprising considering the views of some
