ROH - Death Before Dishonor XI
On 20/09/2013 - Ring of Honor presents it's 11th Edition of Death Before Dishonor from Pennsylvania, Philadelphia as the ROH World Title Tournament reaches it's conclusion as both the Semi-Finals & Finals take place as ROH look's to crown it's 19 World Champion. With the national TV tapings taking place the very next day, I thought it would be appropriate to create a thread so those of you who enjoy Ring of Honor can discuss, predict and comment on the fall out of what could potentially be a great weekend.
Match Card
ROH World Title Tournament Finals
??? Vs ???
ROH World Title Tournament Semi-Finals Match
"Unbreakable" Michael Elgin Vs Kevin Steen
ROH World Title Tournament Semi-Finals Match
Adam Cole Vs Tommaso Ciampa
IGPW JR. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship Match

Special Interview with BJ Whitmer
BJ Whitmer discusses his ROH future
8-Man Tag Team Action
ROH World Tag Team Champions - reDRagon (Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish), Matt Taven & Michael Bennet W/Truth Martini & Maria Kanellis Vs Adrenaline Rush (TD Thomas & ACH), Cedric Alexander & Caprice Coleman

Silas Young Vs Jay Lethal
Plus also signed to appear - Outlaw Inc (Homicide & Eddie Kingston)
My Predictions - Most likely be a Michael Elgin/Adam Cole title with Adam Cole stealing the victory. I'd probably expect Steve Corino & Jimmy Jacobs to make an appearance at some point in the show and Jay Briscoe to return as a heel.

Sounds like a good card, probably the most excited I've been for an ROH card on paper all year (don't think it has been a vintage year for them), Elgin vs Steen and Wolves vs Hooligans sound like cracking matches.
I agree with the idea of a Elgin/Cole final but for some reason I think Elgin will win, seems more appropriate for the little guy to be chasing the big guy.

Re: ROH - Death Before Dishonor XI
Im seriously contemplating it now. It's free because their Internet streamer provider is testing new technology to present a "Flawless Stream".
Ive never had problems with them anyway so im guess im lucky that way lol
Hopefully TNA creative are watching to see how a tournament should be organized. Can't keep holding Elgin down much longer surely easily the best big man in wrestling today.

I love Elgin, his match with Lethal at SoH has to be my ROH highlight of the year so far.
How good would Joe vs Elgin be

Re: ROH - Death Before Dishonor XI
That would be epic match up.
No idea what'll happen tonight ive ruled Steen out mainly because you get 1 title reign in ROH and that's it Cole seems obvious choice, Elgin been producing quality pretty much all the time and Ciampa on the comeback trail wouldn't be surprised to see him walk out with the world title would be cool to see him getting Elgin up for the Project Ciampa though or Jay Briscoe go heel on everyones asses and lay them out when presenting the title.

Re: ROH - Death Before Dishonor XI
Please to god don't let it be Ciampa, can't even believe he's made it to the semis, clearly Hunter Johnson sees something I don't.
Can't see Steen regaining the belt either, like you said multi-time ROH champs are extremely rare (Aries), and a lot of the buzz he had a couple of years ago has died down, plus he doesn't really suit ROH's traditional values as a figurehead.
I think Cole and Elgin are nailed on as the young, exciting, popular candidates, question is which one? I think anything else would just be an unnecessary swerve.

Briscoe being involved has to result in something going down, I'd expect him 'crowning' so to speak the winner.

Re: ROH - Death Before Dishonor XI
- ROH Death Before Dishonor Results :
- Jay Briscoe opened Ring of Honor “Death Before Dishonor XI” and said that he wasn’t happy about this. He said he doesn’t blame Nigel McGuinness, but he will hand over the title to whoever wins tonight. But, he said that if the person doesn’t win like a man, he will hand over the title like a man.
Heading into the event, Jay Lethal was one of the favorites for the world championship tournament finals, but lost to Adam Cole. Instead, he ended up in the opening match of “Death Before Dishonor” and beat Silas Young in the opening match on the card.
Up next was the first of the two semifinal Ring of Honor championship matches, with Adam Cole facing Tommaso Ciampa. The match was long and strong, with a great story of Cole going after the leg of Ciampa. The end came when Cole locked in the figure four and then used his free foot to kick Ciampa in the head three times for a knockout.
The third match was the second semifinal match for the ROH world championship as Kevin Steen took on Michael Elgin in a battle-of-the-big men. In an amazing match, Michael Elgin hurt Kevin Steen’s shoulder early on. Steen realized he couldn’t use his package piledriver because of it and tried to find other ways to win, but Elgin finally won the match when he locked in the cross face and made Steen tap out.
The ROH world title tournament finals at “Death Before Dishonor XI” will see Michael Cole face Michael Elgin.
The next match was for the IWGP junior heavyweight tag team championship. The American Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards) challenged The Forever Hooligans (Rocky Romero and Alex Koslov) for the belts.
After intermission, RD Evans came to the ring with Veda Scott, and the two of them complained about the injustice and how they have been treated. Veda Scott took a heel turn here. Evans said he refused to leave the ring until he got justice, which brought out Adam Page, who challenged Evans to a match. Page won a very short match.
Ricky Marvin made his ROH debut in the next match after a stint in Mexico and Pro Wrestling NOAH as he wrestled Roderick Strong. Marvin came to the ring with two title belts over his shoulders. Strong actually won the match with a sick kick followed by the Gibson Driver.
B.J. Whitmer came out and retired thanks to his severe neck injuries. He then asked Nigel McGuinness to give Jimmy Jacobs a second chance and pointed out how he did the right thing when SCUM was losing. McGuinness agreed to give Jacobs another chance and it starts at the next TV tapings.
The next match was an eight man tag team match with Adrenaline RUSH and C&C Wrestle Factory fighting reDRagon, Matt Taven and Michael Bennett. The good guys won, but after the match, Outlaw Inc (Eddie Kingston and Homicide) showed up in suits and ties and clown masks. Kingston said they are after the tag team titles and the world title.
The final match on ROH “Death Before Dishonor XI” is the main event for the world championship between Adam Cole and Michael Elgin. There are three judges in case the match doesn’t end with a pinfall winner. Prince Nana, Cary Silkin and an executive. They were not needed as Cole pinned Elgin with the Florida Key to become the 19th Ring of Honor world champion.
After the match, Jay Briscoe came to the ring and handed over the title to Cole. As Briscoe turned to leave, Cole superkicked him in the back of the head and knocked him out. Elgin got to his feet and Cole leveled him with a belt shot and then blew a kiss to Nigel before leaving.

Re: ROH - Death Before Dishonor XI
Managed to stay awake and watch the first half of the show, then started fazing in and out and had to call it a night after the first four matches. Tommaso Ciampa/Adam Cole match was tremendous, very hard-hitting, physical match with both guys getting their fair share of offence. That power-bomb onto the guardrail looked nasty! I'll have to re-watch the Elgin/Steen match but I thought it suffered from burnout as the previous match was flat-out.
I don't really understand the hate for Tomasso Ciampa, since his return I've been a very big fan of his intense, crazy character. He's had other tremendous matches with the likes of Michael Elgin and Michael Bennet, so it's no fluke or due to him being carried.
I'm very happy to see Adam Cole as ROH World Champion, very much the MVP of independent wrestler who's undoubtedly on borrowed time before he makes his way to the 'big leagues'. Very much looking forward to seeing what his reign has in store!
