The gift that keeps giving, Mr George Clownshoes Clancy is officiating.
In other news, the official Rabo preview has some truly baffling statistics:
In other news, the official Rabo preview has some truly baffling statistics:
The Scotsmen have won just one of their last ten away games in all competitions: 9-7 over Zebre in Parma in March. Edinburgh's only win in Wales on their last sixteen visits since December 2009 was 21-19 in this equivalent fixture at the Arms Park last season.
Cardiff Blues have won five of their last six encounters with Edinburgh in the PRO12, however the Scotsmen have been victorious on five of their last six visits to the Arms Park.

Clueless Clancy? Ohhh dear, ohhh deary dear. Can't stand the man. I'm all for equality & equall opportunities but I think the IRB went a step too far when they appointed a partially blind ref to their elite pannel...
Re: Cardiff Blues v Edinburgh Rugby, 6 October
I've got a worry that Dave Denton will be rested this game - he's pretty much played every minute of every game so far (including friendlies) and is probably due a rest before the HK games.
He's generally been one of our better players so far (not much competition!), and is one of the few players who has actually given us go forward.
I know we're short of a 6/8 until the new signings come in but can see him putting Cox at 6 and Basalaia at 8.

Re: Cardiff Blues v Edinburgh Rugby, 6 October
If Denton is to be rested then that's probably the right solution, with Hamish Watson on the bench. A shame that McInally has stalled his career. I would personally throw the kitchen sink at Cardiff - this is a winnable away game.RDW_Scotland wrote:I've got a worry that Dave Denton will be rested this game - he's pretty much played every minute of every game so far (including friendlies) and is probably due a rest before the HK games.

Looks like Matt Scott will be on the bench at least, maybe even a starter, I think that this match is a very possible win so would be surprised if Denton doesn't play at least the first 50 mins.

I really do hope Matt Scott returns. We really do need his abilities in that back line.
Imagine having a back both able to run and pass accurately at the same time!!

I was having a chat to couple of the back room boys last Friday night, and they seem to think that he has been up to speed training wise and believed he will be back in the squad for the Cardiff game, I think they mentioned Laidlaw could be fit for the weekend as well.

Has there been any specific instances of despair recently or is this just a random outburst regarding the general state of Edinburgh rugby?

Just a reminder, everyone, of the rules of the George Clancy Drinking Game. Drink every time George (a) makes a completely inexplicable decision, (b) shows contempt to a Scottish team captain and (c) ruins the game as a spectacle.

That literally has to be one of the worst decisions ever in the history of rugby.tigertattie wrote:Sean Lineen "Dear Edinburgh, I've found a scots qualified winger playing in the super 15. He's great. Would you like him, the SRU will pay his wages

That is an irresponsible suggestion. You'd be dead by the 20 minute mark.George Carlin wrote:Just a reminder, everyone, of the rules of the George Clancy Drinking Game. I'd have thought the better game in the UAE would be to drink every time he makes a good decision.....

Re: Cardiff Blues v Edinburgh Rugby, 6 October
Blues team!
15 Leigh Halfpenny, 14 Alex Cuthbert, 13 Owen Williams, 12 Cory Allen, 11 Harry Robinson, 10 Rhys Patchell, 9 Lloyd Williams
8 Andries Pretorius, 7 Sam Warburton, 6 Josh Navidi, 5 Filo Paulo, 4 Bradley Davies, 3 Taufa’ao Filise, 2 Matthew Rees (c), 1 Gethin Jenkins
16 Kristian Dacey, 17 Scott Andrews, 18 Sam Hobbs, 19 Lou Reed, 20 Robin Copeland, 21 Lewis Jones, 22 Gareth Davies, 23 Dafydd Hewitt
.............................................................
Cory Allen starts!
That is pretty much our starting team with the exception of Scott Andrew and Robin Copeland who are on the bench.
If we lose this game then we might as well not show up to our HC games.

Re: Cardiff Blues v Edinburgh Rugby, 6 October
Edinburgh Rugby team to play Cardiff Blues at Cardiff Arms Park on Sunday 6 October (kick-off 2.05pm)
15 Jack Cuthbert; 14 Dougie Fife, 13 Joaquin Dominguez, 12 Ben Atiga, 11 Tim Visser; 10 Harry Leonard, 9 Greig Laidlaw CAPTAIN;
1 Alasdair Dickinson, 2 Ross Ford, 3 Willem Nel, 4 Sean Cox, 5 Izak van der Westhuizen, 6 Dimitri Basilaia, 7 Tomas Leonardi, 8 David Denton.
Substitutes:16 James Hilterbrand, 17 Wicus Blaauw, 18 Geoff Cross, 19 Ollie Atkins, 20 Cornell Du Preez, 21 Sean Kennedy, 22 Matt Scott, 23 Sam Hidalgo-Clyne
Strong pack, dodgy backs - particularly in the midfield. Great to see Laidlaw and Matt Scott back and interesting that Du Preez is straight on the bench having only arrived in the country a couple of day ago.
Didn't realise Leonardi was a 7, and I fear a roasting at the breakdown with Warbuton in the team.

Listening to the old ipod (other listening devices are available) at work, a rather apt lyric for Edinburgh, a pat on the back for anyone who can tell me what song this comes from (without using google etc)
"Don't try to fix me, I'm not broken. Hello, I'm your mind, giving you someone to talk to"

Very much an experimental looking team, and I agree with the comment above that Solomons is still having a look at his options.
Great to see Greg Laidlaw back, and hopefully Matt Scott is ready to come back into the side.
Good run in the team for Harry Leonard. He's being given a real chance here.

Hopefully the Mad Georgian will be yanked by the end of the first half so we can see the considerable stuff that all reports indicate Du Preez has got.
Have got a sad, sad, sinking feeling that we're going to kick the ball to the Lilliputian and Cuthbert all day which means that it should be asbestos underpants time fairly early. Comparing the speed of Cory Allen to the trundling, runaway sofa that is Ben Atiga also does not make me moist with confidence.
